* ''One Hundred Strokes of the Brush before Bed'' by Melissa P. The protagonist hires a tutor to teach her mathematics, which she's flunking at school. Realising he finds her attractive, she rapidly proceeds to seduce him.
* In ''Literature/PrinceCaspian'', Caspian is given a tutor by his [[TheUsurper Uncle Miraz]]. He's hired to replace his nurse, after Miraz finds out that she's been telling him banned stories about Old Narnia. This backfires on Miraz: the tutor turns out to be an Old Narnian himself living in secret. He teaches Caspian more about the subject than his nurse ever did, not to mention saving Caspian's life when Miraz later tries to have him killed.[[labelnote:*]]We later see that regular schools do exist in Narnia at this time, although it's doubtful whether the Crown Prince would be sent to one.[[/labelnote]]

* In ''Viper In the Fist'', the [[ImpoverishedPatrician Rezeau family]] hire several of those to teach to their three sons in their familian home.

* ''Series/TheCrown2016''. Played for drama in "Scientia Potentia Est". A flashback shows Elizabeth as a child going to Eton to receive private tutoring from a professor in constitutional law while surrounded by his male students, the future leaders of the country, who are learning mathematics and literature. As Queen she feels outclassed by the more intelligent and literate world leaders she has to deal with in the rapidly advancing [=20th=] Century, so she arranges another professor to educate her in general subjects. When this professor tries to establish what level of education she's currently at, the Queen realises that she hasn't received the most basic school education that any of her subjects have access to.

[[spoiler:And, of course, the Penvellyns' secret history.]] Apparently, Ethel's family have often served the Penvellyns in this capacity, [[spoiler: just to ensure that their treasure will never be forgotten]]. It doesn't hurt that the Penvellyn manor is very isolated.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''. In an episode Superintendent Chalmers takes Bart under his wing, giving him private lessons outside of school. Eventually all the bully characters start taking these lessons.

* ''Manga/Reborn2004'': The titular character Reborn is a private tutor who nurtures heirs into becoming mafia bosses. He's this to the protagonist Tsunayoshi Sawada (Tsuna for short) in behalf of the ninth boss of the Vongola Family, and prior to him, he also tutored Dino from the Cavallone Family. Reborn's students started as wimps, but they TookALevelOfBadass and have grown into very formidable fighters.

* The BodyOfTheWeek in one episode of ''Series/{{Castle}}'' was hired as a private tutor for the son of a [[TheTriadsAndTheTongs Triad]] boss, [[spoiler:and was killed by his older brother when student and tutor fell in love]].

* While it never actually comes up in the series proper, it's mentioned in supplemental material for ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar'' that Fujiwara's older sister Toyomi used to tutor Shirogane back when he was in elementary school, [[SmallRoleBigImpact which makes her indirectly responsible for him getting into Shuchi'in and thus setting the entire series in motion]]. He also had a very minor PrecociousCrush on her (so minor in fact that the author states that she doesn't even qualify as his FirstLove).

When Ash is falling back in his classes and is in danger of losing his spot on the Pokéathlon team, Misty decides to step up and help him study for the extraordinaries.

* ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'':

* ''LightNovel/HighSchoolDXD'': In one of the specials, [[{{Valkyries}} Rossweisse]] is shown giving remedial classes to Issei in private, since he's the only member of the Occult Research Club in danger of flunking out. HilarityEnsues when she starts freaking out over [[LovableSexManiac him trying to do pervert stuff on her]] and getting distracted, and ironically [[SelfFulfillingProphecy ends up embarrassing herself due to her own overreactions]].
