One of the traps sent for the tributes is Jabberjays that have the engineered but pained cries of loved ones and when Finnick hears what he thinks are Annie's cries for help, he instantly goes into panic mode trying to desperately save her—and is nothing but relieved when she's rescued from the Capitol later on. Before Finnick goes to fight in the war—where he unfortunately gets killed in battle, he and Annie end up getting married; she ends up pregnant with their so ; Annie votes against the idea of a Hunger Games with the Capitol's children knowing full well that Finnick would've rejected the idea too and Annie later writes to Katniss and Peeta about how wonderful it is to get to raise her in Finnick's son in a Panem that is now far more peaceful thanks in part to his father too.

* While ''Literature/TheHungerGames'' for the most part averts this trope, it is surprisingly brought up at the very end. When they’re leaving for their honeymoon becomes disrupted, Mary encourages and helps George in saving Bailey Bros. * Despite the premise of the manga, Hahari of ''Manga/The100GirlfriendsWhoReallyReallyReallyReallyReallyLoveYou'' deconstructs this by bringing up the corollary that only your one true love will do. She was madly in love with Hakari's terminally ill father and her decision to have Hakari was so that a piece of him may live on. It was an incredibly dangerous decision that she openly admits was reckless and left her a single mother. Furthermore, she goes into detail about how losing him caused a void in her life that not even her daughter's love could fill. It was only when she fell in love with Rentarou, which proved that she ''could'' love again and disproved the notion that only that one specific person will do, was the void filled.
