* In ''StrangersOnATrain'', Bruno and his mother (neither the picture of perfect sanity) are talking at home; she shows him her latest painting. He starts cackling delightedly and claims she captured his father to a "t" - the picture is a feverish nightmare portrait of wild glaring eyes and claws. Mom looks a bit confused and says it's supposed to be Saint Francis.

* In the anime version of ''{{Kuroshitsuji}}'', [[CompleteMonster Alois]] is this. In one of his first scenes in the first episode he appears in, he [[EyeScream gouges his maid's eye out with two of his fingers]] in graphic detail. [[TheWoobie She wears an eyepatch from then on.]] After this instance, he settles for hitting her, insulting her, and throwing hard objects at her. He acts eerily seductive around attractive males, and once licked Ciel's face while crossdressing in the aforementioned maid's dress. He also acts like an innocent young boy around strangers, bringing a priest to tears with his supposed purity of heart and devotion to his deceased father.

** This is actually [[TruthInTelevision Truth in Television]] - both cases M was (allegedly) based on (Peter Kuerten and Fritz Haarmann) inspired rhymes such as these in the populace. This (German) troper finds them less creepy since the original regarding Haarmann included the line "he'll turn your ass into ham".

** The scary part for this troper is that the "constant smile" is supposed to make the viewer think that he has an erection at that moment. So when he's at work, shopping, sitting around with his pals, talking to strange women...

** "Rock A'bye Baby" is probably the worst.

*** Anyone else remember that one episode of {{Perfect Strangers}} where Larry is babysitting and starts singing "Rock A Bye Baby", and Balki (having never heard the song before) is absolutely horrified by the lyrics.

*** Er, no, it's a reference to [[TheCanterburyTales The Miller's Tale]], where a character convinced one of the men (who then convinced the two others) that there was going to be flood, so he could go and shag his wife. The character that did this got shot in the jacksie. But I don't think [[TheCanterburyTales The Millers Tale]] is good reading for young children.

** Which, of course, ''TheSimpsons'' [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructed]] early on in its life.
** ''Ring around the rosie'' is not about bubonic plague, as anyone who has had the disease can testify, as the symptoms listed sound more like Spanish Flu or Pneumonia, not that wouldn't be scary in itself.
*** Ring around the rosy (the first sign of plague) pocket full of posey (to hide the smell of rotting flesh) Ashes, Ashes (burning the corpses) we all fall down (everybody dies).

*** A thread archived in the SomethingAwful Comedy Goldmine presented the goons with this coloring book. They made it even more Nightmare Fuely that it loops back around to hilarious. And sometimes they just made it more Nightmare Fuely.

* It could be said that medical doctors either are this from the start, or get to this point. Most of us are at least a little bit [[Squick squicked]] by the thought of cutting people open and pulling out their entrails, or seeing the results of a [[BodyHorror terrible accident or disease]], but for them it's just an average day at the office, or a fascinating puzzle.

Part two of the halloween special of BrawlInTheFamily. Deedeedee complains that the ending to the story is boring, and asks what kind of cuddley conclusion kirby will come up with. We don't actually see the cheerfully told story, but it makes Wadledee throw up.

* Because it can't be said enough, StevenMoffat. Mild mannered, kindly looking, adoring father of two and the man who makes adults afraid of their own shadows.

* UnfortunateImplications, especially when a sentence is a DoubleEntendre or could be looked at in different ways. The naive Kafuka Fuura's attempt to cheer up her friend (quoted above) is a good example: while being alone in a dark abandoned school is scary, ''not'' being alone is possibly even scarier.

** Karen in Outnumbered brings home terrifying pictures which she describes to her parents cheerfully, including the gory details.
