Simply put, this is when TheMole somehow ascends to the position of actually running the organization he, she, or it has infiltrated. In effect, they try to cause the organization or group to self-destruct, or corrupts it to their own purposes. A popular variant these days is to let the heroes wind up in charge of the NebulousEvilOrganization they've been fighting, where they try to steer legions of PsychoForHire types to good ends...usually with mixed results.

The recent rename/rework of The Umbridge moved the focus away from the specific character of Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter to the story arc where a Reasonable Authority Figure is replaced by a despot. As such, the new trope doesn't include to loyalties to Voldemort or any other organisation outside and opposed to the one they are now running. So I've removed this bit.

Compare TheUmbridge; in this case, the character is not merely an opponent or opposite of the ReasonableAuthorityFigure but someone whose loyalties are to an outright opponent of the organization they've ended up running. And unlike LesCollaborateurs, the Mole In Charge keeps those loyalties secret.
