* Fanfic/ThousandShinji: Subverted. For most of the story Shinji clearly considers Asuka his girlfriend, Rei his surrogate sister and Misato her surrogate mother. However, Rei's crush on Shinji (and her willingness to talk Asuka into a threesome) and Misato's proclivity to tease him complicate matters. Shinji did not plan getting married to anyone other than Asuka, but when , Shinji takes the three of them as his wives out of a desire to make them happy.

At first it progresses as a harem ending centered around Elise, but then the three love interests start falling for each other and it becomes a four-way. They even literally get married by a pair of open-minded pastors who can keep a secret.

** Saera Targaryen, one of Jaehaerys I's daughters, was involved in a scandal of banging three different men simultaneously, and when confronted by her father, stated that she wanted to marry them all, just like Aegon the Conqueror or dear great uncle Maegor the Cruel (who had six wives, something that was probably responsible for discrediting polygamy in Westeros). Her father responded by locking her up.
