As noted above, Mafia is a ThirdPersonShooter that combines an affectionate pastiche to the classic mafia movies (TheGodfather and co.) with the GrandTheftAuto-like gameplay to produce a sweeping storyline with many sudden revelations, intense gunfights, and adrenaline-laden car chases. The sequel, Mafia II, is set during WorldWarII and in the early '50's, and take place in the city Empire Bay, a FictionalCounterpart of NewYorkCity with elements from SanFrancisco. The game's setting and story be supposedly much DarkerAndEdgier (which will be quite a feat).

This turns out to be a wise decision, since the other family is much worse. Thus begins Tommy's ascention from a simple cabbie to the best hitman in the entire mob.
