This trope's title originated with the character Captain Marvel, whose comic was originally published under the same name by Fawcett Comics. Following a lawsuit by Creator/DCComics, which alleged that Captain Marvel infringed upon the copyrights of Franchise/Superman, Fawcett went out of the comics business and their trademarks lapsed. Nineteen years later, DC revived Captain Marvel. Ironically, by this point, however, Creator/MarvelComics had already created a new character and publication titled Captain Marvel. Due to issues with copyright and trademark law, the character could continue to be called Captain Marvel, but any magazines or merchandise would be titled Shazam! Years later, with the ComicBook/New 52 relaunch and Marvel using their Captain Marvel with greater frequency, DC's Captain Marvel was officially named "Shazam", ironically making them an aversion of their namesake trope.

* Applies to the English dub of Animation/PleasantGoatAndBigBigWolf. The original Chinese title, Xǐ Yángyáng Yǔ Huī Tàiláng, matches the original Chinese names of the two major characters. The English title is Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, but the title does not match the characters' names; the characters are only known as Weslie and Wolffy in the English dub. Many people assume that if the Chinese title matches the names of the characters, this must go the same for the English title, leading to them calling the characters by the names Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf.

Fandom Berserk Button was renamed to Fandom Enraging Misconception. Also removed misuse of Critical Research Failure; it is not to be used the way Did Not Do the Research was used.

Can lead to things like CowboyBebopAtHisComputer when people don't do research on the subject. Depending on the circumstances, it may also become a FandomBerserkButton. Not to be confused with IAmNotSpock, though it would be funny. RefrainFromAssuming sometimes is related to this.

* Applies to the English dub of Animation/PleasantGoatAndBigBigWolf. The English title is Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, but the title actually refers to the two characters Weslie and Wolffy. The characters are never called Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf. This confuses many people because the original Chinese title, Xǐ Yángyáng Yǔ Huī Tàiláng, matches the original Chinese names of those two characters. Many people assume that if the Chinese title matches the Chinese names of the characters, this must go the same for the English title, leading to them calling the characters by the names Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf.
