* Series/Aftermath: In "Red Giant", Earth's surface is rendered uninhabitable as the Sun becomes hotter, forcing humanity into underground bunkers. Eventually, the Earth's temperature rises to the point where even the underground becomes too hot to live in, but humanity is able to escape on starships and settle on the moons of the outer Solar System, which have now become habitable thanks to the expanding sun.

* Literature/Remnants: A massive asteroid is heading towards Earth. In a desperate attempt to save at least a small fraction of humanity, the US government sends eighty people on a space shuttle fitted with cryonics into space to find a new home. However, many of the ship's passengers succumb to CryonicsFailure during the journey, and the survivors wake up not on a new planet, but a starship run by an AIIsACrapshoot insane AI.

* Series/EvacuationEarth has as its premise a wayward neutron star heading towards Earth and attempts to build a GenerationShip to take 250,000 people to Barnard's Star.

* In Literature/ForWeAreMany, the Bobs learn that the Others are on their way to Delta Pavonis, and they tend to wipe out any species that may resist their looting. As such, they send two colony ships to Delta Pavonis IV, so that they can save at least some members of a local sentient race, whom they dub the Pav. The Pav are roughly at the level of the early 20th century and are hardly in a position to resist the Others. The Bobs manage to save about 20,000 out of over a billion. Then, in Literature/AllTheseWorlds, [[spoiler:the Others are heading for Earth with an even bigger fleet. Luckily, two Bobs have managed to get their hands on a derelict Other transport ship, which has enough internal space for fifty times as many people as there are left on Earth. The problem is that, by the time the transport arrives into Earth orbit, only 6 million stasis pods have been built, and the Others are already here. Riker then has an epiphany and decides to load the remaining 8 million without putting them to sleep. The evacuation is partly successful - a stray shot from an Other "Death Asteroid" wipes out the Cuban enclave, killing all 150,000 people there. In the end, the Bobs win the battle, so the still awake humans are brought back to Earth, so that the Bobs can finish building enough pods for everyone to evacuate (Earth's environment is rapidly moving into a nuclear winter).]]

** In VideoGame/MassEffectAndromeda, the dark secret about the Andromeda Initiative is that it is really a home galaxy evacuation. The Initiative's higher ups learned about the impending Reaper invasion and scrambled to get the Initiative out of the Milky Way and en route to Andromeda before the Reapers started hitting the homeworlds, which they managed with less than a year to spare. This forced them to move up their intended timeline by several years, leaving them lacking many of the industrial resources, such as military-grade ships, that they hoped to have once they reached Andromeda.
