** It is much different in the anime form - partway through, Yusuke finds out that his apartment has caught on fire due to his mom passing out with a lit cigarette. Keiko rushes in to save Yusuke's body, but is threatened with the flames. Yusuke is put in a FriendOrIdolDecision and decides to use the egg save her. This turns out to be a SecretTestOfCharacter and Koenma reveals that, oh yeah, the creature that hatched would have eaten your soul if hatched normally. Yusuke's selfless act, though, allows him to return to life.
