** For similar reasons, Lunchlady Doris stopped appearing after the death of her VA, Doris Grau. This lasted about a decade, until someone noticed Tress MacNeille does a rather good impression.

** Considering the A's-centricism of the PSP game ''Battle of Aces'', it's especially sad that Yuuno isn't playable there. I mean, [[FinalFantasyV ExDeath]] from ''[=~Dissidia: Final Fantasy~=]'' shows that being a BarrierWarrior (of sorts) is perfectly viable in a fighting game. No excuse!
** And now it looks like Nanoha herself is no longer the main character, OrSoIHeard. [[ReplacementScrappy Wonder how long that will last.]]

* Jack Atlas from the recent ''{{Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds}}'' is another example. He was the main antagonist in the first season, once best friend and then arch rival of the protagonist, object of all his thoughts, a formidable oponent. Long story short: he was pretty badass. Neither did their conflict ever get solved, nor did he stay this important to the plot for long. He was taken off the beaten track via his new love interest Carly Nagisa, who occupied his sole attention throughout the whole second season. And now, in the third season, his only purpose seems to be used as a PluckyComicRelief every now and then, together with and practically glued to the side of the main characters ''other'' BFF Crow, if he appears at all, holding no special importance to the plot whatsoever anymore, not to mention his former badassness.

** While his importance to the plot has indeed diminished, he has being getting ridiculous levels of badass lately. Just check his Crowning Moment of Awesome page.
** Aki in the first season was a [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome formidable]], [[AxCrazy destructive]], and [[NightmareFuel even ominous]] {{Yandere}} DarkMagicalGirl, who established herself as one of the strongest females in the series, and a prominent rival for Yusei. Aki [[{{BadassDecay}} by the third season]] is more or less a LivingProp who, every ten or so episodes, gets on a bike to look nice in leather and, once in a blue moon, [[{{Jobber}} beat]] or [[TheWorfEffect lose]] to a minor character.

* There seems to be an unspoken rule of sorts stating that in the ''{{Pokemon}}'' anime, ''NO'' player characters from the games ever appear in any great capacity unless they're a girl. Granted, it might be so that none of the game heroes can get a chance to upstage Ash, but the resulting attention heaped upon the ''female'' characters is rather baffling. [[{{Fanservice}} Or]] [[{{Lolicon}} not]]. Poor Brendan, Wally, Lucas, Lunick... well, you get the point.

* The ''PrettyCure'' franchise loves {{Sixth Ranger}}s... unless they're Michiru and Kaoru, the DarkMagicalGirl twins from ''FutariWaPrettyCureSplashStar'', who share the dubious title of [[SirNotAppearingInThisTrailer Dame Not Appearing In This Trailer]]. If having no merchandise whatsoever despite being on a MerchandiseDriven show wasn't enough, they didn't even get to fight in the ''PrettyCureAllStars DX'' movie and only showed up for a few seconds without any lines. It wasn't a voice actor issue, as Moop and Fuup, played by the same two people, appeared and got lines. No, Michiru and Kaoru just didn't get their spotlight for no good reason, even though every other Cure and support character in the history of the SeriesFranchise, ''including'' Cure Berry, Cure Peach and Cure Pine from ''FreshPrettyCure'' (which started just over a month before the movie's release date!) got tons of attention. The second DX movie ''finally'' gave them a speaking part, but of course, it was very minor and they didn't get to fight. Though in general, the older your series was the less screentime you got on that movie (Splash Star and Original[=/=]Max Heart getting the worst of it), so they should still be thankful.

** And then there's the NintendoDS CrossOver game, where both Honoka AND Kaoru and Michiru get DemotedToExtra! Well, fine, Kaoru and Michiru have it MUCH worse, since they ''don't even appear'' (again). Honoka does appear, of course, but she's the ONLY ONE out of the 11 [[IncrediblyLamePun PCs]] who [[AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent never gets to be the main character of a chapter]]. Yes, even her {{Expy}} Mai and {{Sixth Ranger}}s Hikari and Kurumi get to star in one chapter, and Kurumi stars in TWO. At least Honoka's [[CharacterTiers top-tier]], although that doesn't make up for her lack of screentime.

* Loads of characters gets demoted to extras in the ''FutureGPXCyberFormula'' series, starting from Johji Otomo, who can rarely be seen or heard after Hayato gets his Super Asurada 01 until the last four episodes, and eventually he [[PutOnABus retires from the Cyber GPX for good.]] The ''SIN'' [=OVA=] have many characters get demoted, especially [[TheAce Randoll]], thanks to Hayato and Kaga's {{Super Mode}}s, with them [[CurbStompBattle curbstomping]]] their opponents left, right and center.

** And don't even get me started on UminekoNoNakuKoroNi. [[BigBrotherMentor George]] didn't even show up on the cover of ''his own [[ImageSong Character CD]]'', while Beatrice (who he shared the CD with and is, admittedly, probably more important) got the whole cover to herself. Meanwhile [[QuirkyMinibossSquad the Stakes of Purgatory]] got a CD of their own, while Battler, the ''[[TheHero main character]]'' only got one "image song" on a different CD. One that's not even performed by his [[DaisukeOno seiyuu]]. And don't even get me started on the parents...

** The End of the Piccolo Saga? Maybe by the [[TournamentArc 23rd Tenka'ichi Budoukai]], yes, arguably, but in the Piccolo Daimaoh saga, no way: Tenshinhan was unable to defeat Drum, who was an EliteMook at best. However, Goku ''[[CurbStompBattle killed Drum i]][[CrowningMomentOfAwesome n two kicks]]''. Literally two kicks: One to send him to the ground, another to ''[[YourHeadAsplode destroy its head]]''. Tenshinhan himself was '''astonished''' by this. SoYeah.

** At least they're getting the [[ThrowTheDogABone druid class]] [[spoiler:(and reclaiming the Echo Isles)]] in ''Cataclysm''. But even then [[spoiler:[[WallBanger they're getting kicked out of the center of Orgrimmar]] for disagreeing with [[TheScrappy Garrosh]] [[ShillingTheWesley Hellscream]]]]. Making it worse almost all new troll npcs are hostile(even the cool [[spoiler:troll pirate]], Vol'jin doesn't free the hexed trolls from Zalazane leaving the troll population {{plothole}} unsolved, the fan favorite Dancing troll village is slaughtered by Beginning level Night elf players [[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman and played as]] ComicRelief, and the Revantusk are also getting killed by the Wildhammers. Not even Cataclysm is really favoring trolls.
** Coming right after trolls is the Draenei. They did get alot of focus in the beginning of the Burning Crusade but they petered out near the end and were ultimately overshadowed by the Blood elves, like trolls they didn't do anything in WOTLK, and finally in Cataclysm, Draenei are the only race to not get a new class despite rogue, druid, and even warlock being possible.

** At least they're getting the [[ThrowTheDogABone druid class]] [[spoiler:(and reclaiming the Echo Isles)]] in ''Cataclysm''. But even then [[spoiler:[[WallBanger they're getting kicked out of the center of Orgrimmar]] for disagreeing with [[TheScrappy Garrosh]] [[ShillingTheWesley Hellscream]]]]. Making it worse almost all new troll npcs are hostile(even the cool [[spoiler:troll pirate]], the fan favorite Dancing troll village is slaughtered by Beginning level Night elf players [[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman and played as]] ComicRelief, and the Revantusk are also getting killed by the Wildhammers. Not even Cataclysm is really favoring trolls.

They were added in the game late despite being a core orc race in Warcraft III, are still only composed of one tribe as no new tribes have joined them unlike tauren, and they didn't get a capital city as Echo Isles was taken over by a level 10 mob which was then forgotten in the Argent Tournament. Troll females have [[OnlySixFaces the least customization options]] in the game...and the one face that doesn't look like a death hag looks like an elf. Their few heroes (Vol'jin, Rokhan, Zul'jin) from previous ''{{Warcraft}}'' games have all been ignored or DrivenToVillainy, and no new troll heroes have been introduced. Notably they were also the only playable race not to get a story in ''Warcraft Legends'' or be focused in an expansion. {{Whitewolf}}, the writers of the ''WorldOfWarcraft'' RPG, also ignored them, [[AuthorAppeal preferring to focus on Elves and Dwarves]], and even when they did give information on trolls, it was almost always negative. At least they're getting the [[ThrowTheDogABone druid class]] [[spoiler:(and reclaiming the Echo Isles)]] in ''Cataclysm''. But even then, if rumors are true, [[spoiler:[[WallBanger they're getting kicked out of the center of Orgrimmar]] by [[TheScrappy Garrosh]] [[ShillingTheWesley Hellscream]] for being "weak" (despite the fact they're one of the [[TheBerserker strongest]] [[HealingFactor races around]] Also the newly introduced Shatterspear tribe are merely low level mobs that get wiped out by starting level night elves and the Revantusk isn't going any better]]. Not even Cataclysm is really favoring trolls.

** The Draenei have been sitting on their tails since early Burning Crusade, and seem likely to do the same in Cataclysm.

** Pip. One of the most vocal and visible of the kids at South Park Elementary at the show's start. Even got a whole episode to himself. Got pushed away into the background as the show progressed, and has now vanished completely. I guess characters from ''GreatExpectations'' don't last long in modern times. Then he returned to have a mecha's foot dropped on him.

* Cyclops in ''{{X-Men}} 3'', though [[RealLifeWritesThePlot there's a reason]].

** By the third, it's easier to name who isn't a case of this, due to the growth of the writers' obsession with Wolverine as the franchise went on.

* The ''ResidentEvil'' movies, based loosely off of the video game series of the same name, end up doing this to most canon characters in favor of [[GodModeSue their own]]. At best, they end up as sidekicks (Jill Valentine is still a semi-main character in ''Apocalypse'') and at worst, they're truly reduced to extras ({{Badass Normal}}s Carlos and Nicholai each [[DroppedABridgeOnHim get a bridge dropped on him]], in the case of the latter with absolutely no fanfare).

*Bagheera in Disney's ''Disney/{{Jungle Book}}'' had a big role.In the sequel The Jungle Book 2 he falls in the trope

*''Film//TheLastAirbender naturally has this by virtue of trying to condense twenty episodes into two hours. However, it's especially noticeable with Momo who, while admittedly a comic relief lemur, shows up just lost enough to be introduced, then does absolutely nothing but appear in the background of scenes for the rest of the movie. You seriously will forget he was in the movie.
