!!Examples:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Film]]
* Fanny Price in ''Mansfield Park'''s 2007 version. She is quiet and shy, but never disagreeable nor very angry with every stranger she meets.
* Jane Benett from the movie ''Pride and Prejudice'' with Rosamund Pike is portrayed this way by her actress. This leads Mr Darcy to think that she is not very in love with his besy friend, but everything becomes better in the end.
* Anne Eliott qualifies too.
* Jane Fairfax from the movie ''Emma'' is portrayed so by Olivia Williams.

[[folder:Literature]]
* Whether Elinor Dashwood is this or a compasive {{Kuudere}} depends on your interpretation of her character in {{SenseAndSensibility}}.
* Fanny Price also qualifies.
* Anne Eliott is an endearing example of this trope, though she is not really shy, nor withdrawing. She is simply very self-controlled.

* Lisa Shay, Tessa Altman and George Altman from [[SuburGatory Suburgatory]]
[[spoiler: They behave this way respectively because she finds almost no one to connect to, because she is a huge [[TheSnarkKnight example of the Snark Knight in action]] [[StepfordSnarker to avoid reacting with pure anger and sadness as she probably would otherwise]] at least about being snatched in a suburb in which meaningful activities and relationships are rarer, and because he has to keep an attitude to remain the resident HotDad . ]]]

* Nagisa Furukawa from {{Clannad}} has great problems with approaching people, but does settle down when she gets that extra little push.
* Liu li from SchoolShock always acts like business and does not speak much, and the only person she really opens up to in a pretty uncharacteristically cheerful way is her commander.

A dandere character is one who is normally quiet and silent, possibly to the point of coming across as an {{Emotionless Girl}} (if female, of course) at times, but will suddenly become talkative and sweet and cute when alone with the right person if they manage to push the right button to get them to pour their heart out, revealing that they're actually just shy.

A dandere will be more or less a normal person, but, will not talk unless spoken to/required to. He/she will avoid talking because of his/her shyness, but if need be, he/she will speak. Also, a dandere tends to feel more power in numbers. If he/she is with a group that he/she is comfortable with, then the shyness factor of said dandere will very likely decrease if another, unfamiliar person is introduced at that time.

Having firsthand experience with a dandere, I think I can elaborate.
