That wasn't played for comedy when the Cardin scene was shown because it was an episode about bullying and it was a flashback to all the bullying Jaune was trying to downplay to his worried friends. There is, however, a deliberately set-up example of this trope involving her.

It would be Cerebus Callback if Tony did something similar to his "Avengers" stunt in Iron Man 3. As is, though, it lacks a callback.

* Tony Stark managed to shrug off his very-nearly-HeroicSacrifice at the end of ''Film/{{The Avengers|2012}}''. However, in ''Film/IronMan3'', it is shown that the incident has given him a very bad case of post-traumatic stress and paranoia which drives him to create more and more inventions in an attempt to safeguard humanity, neglecting food, sleep and Pepper.

* ''ComicBook/MightyAvengers2013:'' The events of ''ComicBook/{{Nextwave}}'' are retconned as being MindRape inflicted on Monica Rambeau and the others by bored reality warpers, with Monica in particular being traumatised because absolutely no-one believed the team when they mentioned what happened.
** One particular line get pointed out specifically, namely the gag that Monica's mother was in Hell, being used as a kickstand by giant weasels dressed as cheerleaders (it's that kind of comic), all because she told Monica to get a real job. When Monica gets a chance to get even with the ones responsible, it throws the line about Monica's mother back at her. Since Monica loved her mom, this just makes her even angrier.

* In the first novel of ''LightNovel/AccelWorld'', Haruyuki, facing his friend Takumu in a duel, declares that even if [[BrokenAce Taku]] is better than him at most things, Haru can't be defeated at video games. Despite being at a disadvantage against Taku, since they're respectively Level 1 and Level 4, Haru awakens his unique Flight ability and has Taku at his mercy, but allows the duel to end in a draw so that Taku doesn't lose all his points. Ten volumes later, Haru, now Level 5, goes up against Wolfram Cerberus, a Level 1, and ends up losing badly, in large part due to Cerberus' Physical Immunity move. Haru, realizing that the tables have been turned, and he's the higher level player who loses to a newcomer with a strong ability, feels awful about saying such a thing to Taku, but Taku doesn't hold it against him.
