** [[BigBad Bowser]] and his son [[OverlordJr Bowser Jr.]] counts when it comes to fighting. Bowser tend to rely on his natural strength and abilities (brawn), while the physically weaker Jr. mainly uses vehicles and gadgets (brains). This is especially notable in games such as ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' and ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'', where the two fights together, as well as the ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' games, where Bowser never uses any kind of gadgets or weapons [[note]]aside from the usable items provided in-game[[/note]] while Jr. fights entirely from inside his Clown Car with only two physical attacks. Otherwise, things aren’t played as straight; Bowser is generally the one who makes the schemes and leads the troops, while Jr. is a leader-in-training who follows his dad most of the time.

However, by the end of the War of the Lance, the two have fully become their own people and go their separate ways.
