Played at its straightest when she puts herself between the heroes in their GiantMecha and the keyhole that will allow them to take control of the moon and keep it from crashing into the Earth (said keyhole having a key that also happens to be a [[ThisIsADrill giant drill]]).

* ''MahouSenseiNegima'' appears to be falling into this with the recent chapters. [[spoiler:Asuna Kagurazaka has enough AntiMagic power to dispell the ancient magic holding up [[FloatingContinent the capital city Ostia]], sending one the oldest civilizations crashing to the ground. She was also implied to be the battery used by [[NebulousEvilOrganisation Cosmo Entelecheia]] to bring about [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt The End Of The]]([[MagicalLand Magical]])[[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt World As We Know It]]. [[BigBad Fate Averruncus]], a remnant of the Cosmo Entelecheia upon successfully kidnapping her, chastises her "for her sins" in a less condescending, more critical manner than his usual. In an earlier chapter, he said he's doing what he's doing "to save the world". Interestingly, he doesn't deny accusations of wanting to destroy it either, so he may have a somewhat warped notion of "saving"... that, or he just likes messing with Negi (he once claimed to hate taking unnecessary life, an hour after holding a large crowd hostage for Negi's cooperation).]]

However, it is specifically noted that he does this when his first wife, Sati, sets herself on fire after being insulted (by her father) for marrying Shiva in the first place. It took Vishnu's discus cutting up Sati's body to stop Shiva from completely destroying the world. Similarly, Shiva acts as a BarrierMaiden when his (later) wife, Kali, goes on rampages.

** In Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, this same role falls to {spoiler: Lucia, whose job it is to destroy Lunar to prevent Zophar's rise to power. She chooses not to.}

* In Lunar, [spoiler:Luna AKA The Goddess Althena] nearly destroys the world after being brainwashed by the Magic Emperor.
** In Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, this same role falls to [spoiler: Lucia, whose job it is to destroy Lunar to prevent Zophar's rise to power. She chooses not to.]

* {{Oni}} had a TearJerker instance about halfway through the game. When [[RobotGirl Shinatama]] was kidnapped, Konoko went AWOL to rescue her. Cue [[MagnificentBastard Griffin]] backstabbing her by waiting until they are reunited then remotely triggering Shinatama's Xiox self-destruct sequence so that the girl won't tell Konoko her real identity. Unfortunately for him however, Shinatama had [[TheReveal already done that]] and even [[HeroicSacrifice managed to stall the detonation for 20 seconds until Konoko had escaped]]. He responded by collecting the girl's remains and [[WeCanRebuildHim hardwiring them into the Omega Vault's security system]] to create a second "Deadly Brain".

* ''The Haunting of Molly Hartley''. [[OrSoIHeard Not that I know that, or would ever have watched such a thing]].

You can understand why TheHero will get very confused when he finds out it's actually their LoveInterest, their younger or older sister, his childhood friend (either [[UnluckyChildhoodFriend Unlucky]], [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend Victorious]] or [[ForgottenChildhoodFriend Forgotten]]) or another member of the FiveManBand who is TheChosenOne fated to destroy the world. The reasons vary, maybe they have [[InTheBlood inherited]] a form of EnemyWithin capable of a truly UnstoppableRage that can destroy worlds, or have been [[DemonicPossession possessed]] by an EldritchAbomination, or most heart wrenchingly they are completely innocent yet their mere ''existence'' acts as a ButterflyOfDoom that can destroy the CosmicKeystone. Either way, they're going to somehow bring about the apocalypse in some form BecauseDestinySaysSo.
