''Geronimo Stilton'' is a long-running children's chapter book series, created by Elisabetta Dami and originally written and published in UsefulNotes/{{Italy}} starting in 1997, before making its way to the west in 2004. The titular hero, Geronimo Stilton, is a mild-mannered and [[CowardlyLion (seemingly) cowardly]] mouse who works as a [[FlintstoneTheming famouse]] journalist (specifically editor and publisher) for ''The Rodent's Gazette'', the most popular newspaper in New Mouse City.

* {{Bowdlerization}}: In one book, Geronimo goes to buy a new bathing suit and finds that the tag inside reads "I'm too sexy for my fur!" (which is a ShoutOut to the song "I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt" by Music/RightSaidFred). Sometime after the book was published, this was changed to "I'm too '''cool''' for my fur!"

There are also two theatrical adaptations: the musical theatre adaptation of the ''Kingdom of Fantasy'' series that has toured in Spain, Denmark, Belgium, and Canada, and Oregon Children's Theatre's ''Gerimino Stilton: Mouse in Space'', adaptation of the book of the same name.

In 2023, it was announced that Radar Pictures is developing an animated feature film adaptation of the books, with David Soren (''WesternAnimation/{{Turbo}}'', ''WesternAnimation/CaptainUnderpantsTheFirstEpicMovie'') set to direct.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: According to Chef Stewrat, his stew has been cooking for 500 years and keeps getting new ingredients added to it. Such a thing is possible, called [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_stew perpetual stew]], although it usually doesn't last ''that'' long.

* BelligerentSexualTension: Thunderhorn and Sterling spend most of the first half of ''The Volcano of Fire'' arguing with each other over who's ideas are better, but after falling into the Fountain of Love, they start to suddenly treat each other with much more affection and respect. [[spoiler: The book ends with the pair getting engaged, and Vol pointing out that falling into the fountain didn't make them fall in love, rather they were already in love with each other but were too stubborn/shy to admit it.]]

* '''''The Creepella von Cacklefur Series''''': Creepella, Geronimo's [[Creator/ElviraMistressOfTheDark Elvira]]-like friend/[[AbhorrentAdmirer abhorrent admirer]], is a VegetarianVampire who lives in a HauntedCastle with her [[Franchise/TheAddamsFamily Addams]][=/=][[Series/TheMunsters Munsters]]-style relatives. [[TheyFightCrime They solve mysteries.]]

* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: In the first ''Kingdom of Fantasy'' book, Queen Aquafin of the Mermaids tries to marry Geronimo to keep him in her kingdom so he can tell her stories forever. When he escapes along with Scribblehopper and Shelly the sea turtle, she flies into a rage and sends a hurricane after them as punishment.

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Several of Geronimo's traveling companions get this treatment, with some disappearing altogether with no explanation or only turning up occasionally in background shots.

All of the books are written by Geronimo in first person, detailing all of his thoughts and experiences about the crazy things that come to his doorstep. The illustrations are all in full color and RainbowSpeak in the form of funky fonts is used liberally ala BoldInflation.

* SapientEatSapient: Cats also exist as fully sapient beings who still eat mice. In “Attack of the Bandit Cats”, the family is captured by a gang of pirate cats who try to fatten them up and eat them. To help facilitate their escape, Trap even strikes up a friendship with their guard, who eventually expresses some mild regret that he’s going to be eating his new friends… but still prepares to give them a last meal as a “final fattening up.”

* BalefulPolymorph: At the climax of ''The Dragon Prophecy'', [[spoiler: King Thunderhorn is revealed to have been cursed by Cackle years ago into assuming the form of a white deer, and is restored to his true elven form when Geronimo uses the magic healing water from the Garden of the Seven Sisters on him.]]

* BadIsGoodAndGoodIsBad: The evil-aligned species in the Kingdom of Fantasy (ie. Witches, trolls, orges, dark fairies) celebrate and praise all this dark, dreary, and disgusting, and abhor all things good and pure.

* SeldomSeenSpecies:
** Arctic cod and ringed seals appear in "Pole Rat".
** The S2 episode "Dude, Where's My Shark?" featured a copper shark.

* BarefootCartoonAnimal: Despite being otherwise fully-dressed, almost none of the characters wear shoes. The most notable aversion is [[TheOneWhoWearsShoes Pinky Pick]], and ''[[NiceShoes how]]!'' Although the Thea Sisters start this way, in the later books they (and most of the other characters) [[AnthropomorphicShift wear shoes more often than not]].

There are also three graphic novel series, the first following historical time travel adventures like ''The Journey through Time'' series, the ''Reporter'' series, which is based in the animated series, and a series retelling the original series in a StylisticSuck ''ComicBook/{{Dog Man|DavPilkey}}''-esque art style (illustrated by Tom Angleberger of ''Literature/OrigamiYoda'' fame). There is also a line of educational workbooks taking excerpts from various entries, and even a ComicBookAdaptation.

The original book series has been adapted into an [[AnimatedAdaptation animated series]] as a joint venture by Italy, Canada and other countries; first aired in Italy (Italian) and Canada (English), and shown in several other countries shortly after. The 3rd season premiered in September 2016 in Europe. Despite being based on the books, the show is about 98% original material.
