* ''WebAnimation/EpithetErased'':
** Mera is pretty terrible to Indus and [[UngratefulBastard rewards a child for helping her by planning to steal that child's powers]]. However, between an epithet that leaves her in constant pain and a background that indicates she was [[LonelyRichKid kept alone in her house as a child for fear that she would injure herself while playing with others]], there's still a significant amount of sympathy for her out there despite her actions.
** Zora is often quite petty and unpleasant, and even her resentment toward her [[SuperpowerLottery extremely powerful epithet]] is hard to take ''that'' seriously given how much she loves to abuse it, but it's hard not to feel at least a little bad for her when "Great at Cowboy" confirms her origins, [[spoiler:specifically, that her parents found a treasure and were murdered for it]].
** Lorelai Blyndeff is [[ItsAllAboutMe a tremendously selfish and entitled brat]], but as ''Literature/EpithetErasedPrisonOfPlastic'' continues, it becomes increasingly clear that she's ultimately just a child dealing ''really badly'' with trauma and guilt, [[spoiler:isolating herself in her dream bubbles because she's afraid that her power killed her mother]]. By the end of the final battle, her illusions have been stripped away - both in the sense that the dream bubble is crumbling, and that her main character syndrome and ability to continue deceiving herself have taken a beating - and she's reduced from a menacing antagonist to just an isolated, immature kid who's destroyed one of the last relationships that meant anything to her, with her sister, through nothing more than her own selfishness and irresponsibility.

This show had all its Woobie examples on a single page under The Woobie; these had been through Woobie clean-up in the past, but ATT determined they should placed under the correct pages. Splitting them out, replacing any entries already on the page with the vetted ones, and tweaking to enable a smooth use of spoiler tags.

** [[SourOutsideSadInside Whitley Schnee]]. In all of his appearances, Whitley is portrayed as a snobby little shit, with Weiss taking satisfaction when the boy gets shut down in some way. When she confronts him about his knowledge that Jacques would disinherit her if she became too uncontrollable, he merely states that it's foolish to oppose their father's wishes. When Willow later indicates she wants Weiss to help Whitley escape just as she and Winter have been able to, Weiss points out that Whitley wants nothing to do with her. Willow reveals that's because Whitley was left all alone, at the mercy of an abusive father and alcoholic mother, when his two sisters left home. Unlike his sisters, Whitley has no Semblance to give him an escape route through the Huntsmen Academies; he's therefore had no choice but to allow Jacques to turn him into what he wants: a mirror image of himself. [[spoiler:When Jacques is arrested for his crimes due to a combination of Willow and Weiss's actions, Whitley watches as his father is led away in handcuffs, huddled into a tiny ball in the middle of the grand staircase. It's the first time he's shown to be as alone and abandoned as Willow earlier described.]]

There's a Woobie page for this show, which has been kept clean. Bringing this into line with the Jerkass Woobie entries on that page (the others are different kinds of woobies).

* Qrow Branwen of {{WebAnimation/RWBY}}. He is a bitter, grumpy alcoholic who enjoys provoking other characters and is quick to provide scathing opinions about people he doesn't like, but does care very deeply for the people he does like (particularly his two nieces). His ability to literally bring bad luck and misfortune to others around him adds to his already impressive skills as a Huntsman, but because he can't turn this ability off or control who it effects, he's forced to keep his distance from his family and few friends he does have. Add in the fact that his old team (consisting of his sister, brother-in-law, and said brother-in-law's now deceased second wife) was broken apart by the aforementioned sister, and the general CrapsackWorld that he lives in, and it's no wonder he's always drunk.
** Weiss. A lot of her toxic and hostile personality traits early on are explained as the result of a very troubled childhood, where her dad is implied to take his frustrations out on her and she often saw friends and family go missing or worse '''be executed'''. Worse, she feels shame that her family name is being dragged through the mud but she's powerless to do anything. Volume 4 gives us a deeper insight into her home life and ''its actually even worse than she was letting on'' - her mother is a depressed alcoholic, her father actually ''hits her'', she has no positive influence in her life beyond Winter (who is rarely around) and the kindly family butler Klein, and eventually [[spoiler:she is disowned and effectively imprisoned, her bratty younger brother gloats in her face over it, and she has to flee with nothing but the clothes on her back.]]
** Mercury is a FauxAffablyEvil asshole who is annoying and arrogant at best, and outright cruel and sadistic at worst. He takes pleasure in killing and gleefully [[CurbStompBattle curbstomps Ruby]] to prevent her from [[spoiler:saving Penny]] and smiles when he watches her breaks down in tears. It's revealed he was raised to be an assassin by his father, Marcus, who regularly brutalized Mercury as training and [[spoiler:stole his son's Semblance after he unlocked it]], promising it back when he was strong. However, after murdering Marcus, Mercury never regained it and the fight was even implied to have cost him his legs. Tyrian suggests that Mercury only joined Salem because he only knows pain and violence and is too afraid of leaving the cycle of abuse he grew up in.
