*** Given they make the point it is almost inevitable that Flanderization (not by that name obviously) will occur, it can sound like a bit of an unfair statement for them to make when you hear them praising themselves for keeping Homer like an ordinary guy or whatever, clearly implying others have failed, despite acknowledging it was already occurring more than a decade before the latest episodes. NO need to pat yourselves on the back fellas, the current ones just have nowhere to go with such a LongRunner.

****It's also worth noting that Homer did come off as a JerkAss even before the show started to [[SeasonalRot rot]] after season nine. Anyone remember "Boy Scoutz 'n Da Hood" from season five, where, after Bart joins a Boy Scouts-esque club called "The Junior Campers," Homer mocks his own son for no reason other than to be a jerk (though he does get his comeuppance when Bart starts laying pie traps around the house), then dooms Bart, Ned Flanders, and Flanders' sons to die out in the ocean after losing the map, telling them to relax and let the current take them back to land, and eating the food needed for survival. He also dooms Ernest Borgnine and his scouts to die by stealing Borgnine's pocket knife to give as a gift to Bart. The reviews on [[http://www.snpp.com/ snpp.com]] even lampshade the fact that Homer acted like a jerk in that episode for mocking Bart without any FreudianExcuse or HiddenDepths to give reason on why Homer hates Bart for being a Junior Camper.

** Mayor Jones puts local tourism first and the well-being of his son, Fred, a distant second. Keep in mind that the town's main squeeze for tourism is when people dress up as monsters and cause property damage or even harm to others. By episode 13, you'll be expecting him to cross the MoralEventHorizon soon.

* Cyclops from the ''{{X-Men}}'', the walking, talking encouragement ''against'' joining the X-Men. Technically this entry could go in either of the Western Animation, Film or Comic Books categories, as Cyclops is a jerkass in the comics, movies and various animated series, including ''[[XMenEvolution X-Men: Evolution]]''.
** From the first movie, after {{Wolverine}}'s fight with Mystique:
-->'''Wolverine''': Hey, hey! It's me.
-->'''Cyclops''': Prove it.
-->'''Wolverine''': You're a dick.
-->'''Cyclops''': Okay.
** {{Wolverine}} can be quite the jerkass as well. But fans LOVE him for being a jerkass.
*** He is usually more {{badass}} than jerkass. Although he is that, usually, too. It is also notable that he was way more jerkass in the first years after he joined the X-Men.
*** However, Cyclops is way more often shown being jerkass in his private life (stick in the ass, wife betrayal, being generally an ass to his family and other people, control freak) as he is shown to kick ass people he should be ass kicking like... I don't know, maybe {{villain}}s?
*** That's only because, X-Men being the soap opera it is, writers like to harp on the problems of his personal life. In combat he usually proves to be the most tactically brilliant member of the team.
*** To be completely honest, Cyclops's Jerkness is usually FanDumb RunningTheAsylum, originally he was just a by the book fearless leader in the comics, but when Logan came onto the scenes & the latter's popularity grew people tended to see every time Cyclops objected to Wolverine as a personal attack against him so the fans hated him for it. XMenEvolution is an example as Cyclops was never a jerk, except in one episode due to Avalanche, AKA Scott's polar opposite who only a few episodes ago tried to reveal Mutants to the world & a Few Episodes later kept quiet about Mystique kidnapping the professor & tricking everyone so she could blow up the mansion & Kill them all for [[ForTheEvulz NO REASON AT ALL]], & after realizing he was a jerk Scott apologized, Scott's latter Jerkness in the Comics is mostly down to Grant Morrison's run & random bits thrown around, But in the Animated series, which this section is on, he's usually level headed. Also as a finishing Note, Cyclops wasn't a jerk in the movies, he was a respected Leader who clashed with Logan's morals, as the film was centred around Logan people would usually be on his side, but really looking back, Logan was the Jerkass to Scott, trying to Steal his girl, refuse to shake hands, insult, call a dick (Which the above quote is more to show that Logan was a jerk, not Cyclops), with the Most Cyclops did was get angry after Jean Died because Logan acted as if they both lost her when Scott was the one about to marry her.

** Stan and Kyle were present as more obnoxious, low-scale bullies in earlier seasons, often joining in with Cartman's scams and being equally dismissive and callous to their fourth friend, be it Kenny, Butters or Tweek. In later seasons the two are far more sympathetic and intelligent characters, though can lean back into this trope on odd occasions.

Also something of a slight subversion, almost everyone she meets out side the main cast quickly grow to dislike her and even within the main cast it is heavily implied, if not outright stated, that they don't like her and only associate with her due to living right by her or by proxy of Hank. Examples include Dale who has bluntly stated he hate her, Bill is in love with her( he is shown to have masochistic tendencies), and Boomhauer is never actually shown speaking to her. When involved in a competition that she will like lose, rather than admit defeat, she will almost always make sure that everyone loses (regardless of how unlikely she is to win from the get go) or lie, back stab, blackmail or use any other unethical or illegal means to give herself the win.

The first time was when he bought a Hybrid and got overly smug, so much so that [[spoiler: he moves to San Francisco and brought his family with him, much to Stan's dismay and to Cartman's joy-turned-boredom.]] It happens again in "Major Boobage" when [[spoiler: he freaks out about the cats having their urine used as a drug for "cheesing". At some point, Trey and Matt were stupid enough to let poor Kyle hold the IdiotBall and take one of the cats home. Guess what happens next?]]

**** To an extent. Some of Eddy's Jerkass traits seem to be engraved in his mindset. He once went mentally insane without anyone in the cul-de-sac to scam.

** Perhaps to balance this, Tom himself is occasionally shown to [[ForTheEvulz pick on Jerry for the sheer fun of it]] (or take a little too much pleasure in his duties).

** Connie, a [[TheLibby Libby]] character from Meg's school is an absolute bitch to Meg, and continues to bully her even after Meg showed her the cuts she deliberately gave herself as a result of Connie's cruel mistreatment towards her.

** Connie, a [[TheLibby Libby]] character from Meg's school is an absolute bitch to Meg, and continues to bully her even after Meg showed her the cuts she deliberately gave herself as a result of Connie's cruel mistreatment towards her. To balance things out however, she also falls victim to a rather DisproportionateRetribution by another Jerkass character in the majority of her appearances (her bullying seems kinda low-scale when you consider she has been brutally beaten twice over, framed for paedophilia by Stewie and sexually harrassed by both Peter and Quagmire).

**** It only gets worse as the seasons go on where Krabs does anything in his power to get money even if it involves causing extreme misfortune for others (The Krabby Kronicle and The Krusty Sponge are prime examples of this) and let's not even get started on what Krabs does to Plankton in the later seasons.

**** For the most part, the callousness of Mr Krabs' character (along with most of the rest of the cast, Spongebob and Patrick arguably being the biggest offenders) is a case of DependingOnTheWriter, they can shift back to their more likeable early characterizations at times, though when they play this trope, they play it ''very straight''.

*** Both Daffy and Foghorn's Jerkass behavior is a case of DependingOnTheWriter usually (though Daffy got more consistantly meaner as time went by). Even Bugs Bunny has his moments at times, [[ScrewySquirrel especially early on]].

** Roger is arguably the worst of the lot, given his frequently displayed tendency to enact plans to severely traumatize people or destroy their lives, for the most trivial reasons or infractions, only occasionally being punished for it. In fact he is so bad that when he first cared for someone more than himself the trauma caused a split personality to develop.

*** In the episode "Frannie 911" it's revealed that it actually would ''kill'' him to be nice. His species has to be jerks, otherwise they die.

** Stan and Kyle were present as more obnoxious, low-scale bullies in earlier seasons, often joining in with Cartman's scams and being equally dismissive and callous to their fourth friend, be it Kenny, Butters or Tweek. There are also subtle suggestions that it was Stan and Kyle's excessive bullying of Cartman's weight that [[HeWhoFightsMonsters evolved him into the anti-semitic sociopath he is today]]. In later seasons the two are far more sympathetic and intelligent characters, though can lean back into this trope on odd occasions.

* Bender from ''{{Futurama}}''. Although he is seen to sometimes be a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, much more often he is just a jerk (He keeps pawning the Heart of Gold). In one particularly nasty episode, "A Pharaoh to Remember", Bender, Leela and Fry are trapped on a ancient Egyptian planet where Bender encourages the overseers to whip the slaves (which include Leela and Fry) more and work them harder. This goes on to where he starts ordering people worked to death to construct a monument to himself.

*** One could argue Kevin to lean into KnightTemplar / HeWhoFightsMonsters territory, after being harrassed by the Eds for so long he has came to believe they are always up to no good and so up for punishment. In "See No Ed" he becomes suspicious after the Eds disappear for an extended period, eventually becoming a paranoid wreck expectant of them reappearing to scam him at every turn. Of course when he sees Eddy's own reasons for his behavior, he lightens up.
** Ed's little sister Sarah is a violent, manipulative BrattyHalfPint that frequently abuses her brother physically and verbally on a scale only slightly lower than what [[spoiler: Eddy suffers from his brother]].

*Named, of course, for the controversial accusation that Homer Simpson's [[TheDitz lovable goofiness]] was exaggerated into him becoming a selfish, arrogant, callous, deceitful, over-impulsive, obnoxious, moronic, alcoholic jerk who treated his wife like a slave, emotionally bullied his children when he wasn't deliberately avoiding them, and reguarly broke the law and endangered lives, particularly during seasons 9-12, when Mike Scully was showrunner. (It should be noted that the word ''jerkass'' was first used in the show in the Season 9 episode "The Joy of Sect," in which Homer shouts "Outta my way, Jerkass!" at two different points.) To quote ''TheSimpsons'' "Treehouse of Horror XIII":

**** To be fair, as long as the episodes don't focuse on his greed or his rivalry with Plankton, he's pretty fine for a character.
