* This troper is heartwarmed anew every single time someone tries to induce a HeroicBSOD on Superman. It never works, but seeing Superman demonstrate just why he's Earth's greatest hero always brightens my day.

* Heartwarming/TheSandman

* Sandman: In Brief Lives Dream apologizes to Delirium, when he's hardly ever apologized to anyone in his entire existence. She asks him if he likes her, to which he replies: "Yes, I suppose I must do, Delirium. You entertain me. And it distresses me to see you troubled."
** The entirety of book ten.
** In a short story, Dream is walking around with Death sometime in the middle ages, and he meets a guy named Hob who says he's not going to die. Death and Dream share a brief smile, and Dream tells the guy he'll meet him again on this spot in a hundred years time. They do, and they keep meeting every hundred years. Then the man notices that there are other people who don't die, and he wonders why Dream keeps coming back to meet him every hundred years. Answer? He needs a friend. Dream is insulted and leaves in a huff, while the man yells after him that if they meet the next hundred years later it'll be because they're friends, and for no other reason. Cut to a hundred years later. The man is sitting down at a table and he looks up, and Dream is there.
--> Hob: I... I wasn't sure you'd be coming.
--> Dream: Really? I have always heard it was impolite to keep one's friends waiting. Would you like a drink?
** The short story that featured Emperor Norton gave this troper warm fuzzies all over.
-->Despair I hoped that you would come back to me, Joshua. But no. I would seem to have failed. You're a pitful madman, a Tom O'Bedlam, dying in the gutter, in the rain. But you never despaired.
-->Death:I've met a lot of kings, and emperors and heads of state in my time, Joshua. I've met them all. And you know something? I think I liked you BEST! [...] [That's] a great hat. Can I try it on?
*** Pretty much everything that Death does is this(Not as strange as it sounds). For example, when she goes to comfort the suicidal Urania Blackwell, and the following exchange ensues:
---->Rainie: You've come for me? Blessed, merciful Death. You've come to make it all stop.
---->Death: No, I haven't come for you, Rainie. [...] Like I said, I was passing, and I heard you crying, and, well, the door was open...
** In Death: The Time of Your Life, when Foxglove confesses to cheating on Hazel and no longer returning Hazel's constant faith and trust. This gives us the following exchange:
--->Hazel: Well, you always thought I was the stupid one. And I always thought I was the stupid one too. And then you say something like that.
--->Foxglove: I said I didn't think I loved you...
--->Hazel:
*** And a very angry one from much earlier, when Foxglove first finds out that Hazel is pregnant (it obviously isn't hers).
---->Foxglove: "What kind of relationship did we have, for Chrissakes? You're dumb, you know that? Dumb and selfish and, and deceitful, and secretive, and -- and -- and -- dumb." * pause* "Oh... shit." * pause* "Do you know how much a baby's going to cost us? For a start we have to buy one of those dumb books full of names..."
---->Hazel: "Fox? Fox, I do love you."
---->Foxglove: "Damn straight you do. Jerk."
** Death and Dream's exchange right before . Death scolds him for what he's about to do, and he hands her a loaf of bread to hit him with, because at the end of Preludes&Nocturnes, she throws bread at him when he's frustrating her. Seeing their simple, sweet sibling relationship in this situation is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
* At the end of A Game of You, when Barbie crosses out 'Alvin' on and writes 'Wanda' above it. The few pages leading up to that moment count as well.

* Jean using her powers so Xavier can dance on her wedding day.
** Jubilee teaching Xavier to rollerblade, when he has the use of his legs for just a few hours. And then pushing him in the lake.
*** For this troper, another [=CMoH=] (and a bit of a TearJerker to boot) comes just a few pages later in that issue -- Xavier begins to walk back to his wheelchair, and Jubilee begs whatever higher power's listening to let Xavier to make it back all the way to his wheelchair before he loses the ability to walk again; when she sees he's not going to make it, she quickly rushes to help him the rest of the way.
** Yet another Jubilee moment, this time from Generation X #6. After an adventure in the Morlock Tunnels against Gene Nation, the team regroups back at Xavier's mansion. They're unwinding and when Skin asks if they can leave, M says that they have to wait for Jubilee. Cut to Jubilee in the woods, looking for Wolverine. He shows up, saying that half of him didn't want her to see him in his semi-feral state (due to Magneto having ripped out his adamantium) while the other half was hoping she'd come to him when he needed her most. As he talks, Jubilee proceeds to cut him off with a hug.
---> Jubilee: Man oh man alive, Wolvie! I turn my back on ya for five minutes and, like--ya totally fall A.P.A.R.T. without me, ya big lug. I knew it was a mistake t'leave ya. But I promise, Logan, I'll NEVER leave ya again.
** Jubilee seems to be involved with quite a few [=CMOH=]. When she tracked down Reno and Molokai, two hitmen who killed her parents, Wolverine convinces her not to kill them. She settles for kicking them both in the balls, and asks Wolverine if this makes her weak. Logan informs her that it doesn't make her weak at all, and may make her one of the strongest people he knows.
** In a MeaningfulEcho of this moment, Jubilee tracks down the man who hired Reno and Molokai, with Generation X hot on her heels, fearing that she'll kill the man because of her time with Wolverine. Jubilee informs them that it's because of her time with Logan that she won't take a life.
** After losing his adamantium, Wolverine left letters for three of his fellow X-Men. The longest, by far, went to Jubilee.
** On the subject of Wolverine's letters, the shortest, but no less meaningful, went to Xavier. "Dear Chuck, Lighten up. Your ol' pal, Logan."
** Doubling as a CrowningMomentofAwesome, when Scott and Jean are getting married, Sabertooth thinks of crashing the ceremony. He gets a good swift kick to his rear, and turns to find a warning written in the snow, "Don't Even Think About It." Wolverine may not be in official attendance, but he was still looking out for Jean.
* Wolverine had one of these when he met "the awesome android assassin Elsie Dee," made to look and programmed to act like a five-year-old girl. She changed her mind about killing him and managed to delay the detonation of the plastique she was packed with, telling him to leave her and get to safety. He refused.
-->"...I got a gut feeling that something that can make the decision to sacrifice itself for another creature can't be all machine ... there's gotta be something human in there. And that something is scared and hurtin' and I'm not about to leave it all alone to face the dark."
* After Destiny's death, Mystique is scattering her ashes at the sea as asked in a letter(IIRC). But since Destiny has precognition powers she knew the wind would throw her ashes back at Mystique. This is a CrowningMomentOfFunny for Irene and a CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming for the comic.
* "Kitty's Fairy Tale," from the early 80s, is an entire issue dedicated to Kitty Pryde telling a bedtime story for Illyana...that is essentially a retelling of the Dark Phoenix Saga, with a HappyEnding. And the rest of the X-Men, including Cyclops, overhear it. The ending is pure sweet.

* Heartwarming/Runaways

* Molly Hayes, constantly. More specifically, at one point after death, she asks the team's car (well, giant frog-robot, but you know) if is in Heaven, and when the robot replies that its GPS program can't locate , this upsets her...but then the robot reprograms its GPS so it can say "Location: Heaven, confirmed". It is so very sweet.
** And in the latest arc ("Dead Wrong", by Terry Moore) there's another one involving Karolina and Xavin. [[spoiler:Karolina is being chased by Majesdanian soldiers who hold her responsible for the destruction of their home planet. She finally decides to stop running and give herself up. Cue the team's hardy protests and Karolina's insistence that she has to go and explain to the Majesdanians what really happened between them and her parents. Then, just as the tears are falling, Molly caps it all off by doing this:]]
---> : I want to give you a going-away present, but this is all I have on me. I got it from a box of cereal.
---> : A compass?
---> : You might need it to find your way back to us.
*** For icing on the cake, we find out on the very next page that [[spoiler:it was Xavin, not Karolina, who went with the Majesdanians. All because of his/her love for Karolina.]]
---->
* The Young Avengers/Runaways Civil War arc has a couple.
** After Xavin rescues the others from being cut up by the MadScientist, he/she procedes to nearly kill said scientist. Teddy stands up to her and insists that it would be wrong and Karolina throws her arms around Xavin when he/she backs down. Later, Xavin thanks Teddy for stopping her, explaining that he/she realized if she went ahead and killed the scientist, he/she would have lost Karolina. She also gives this extremely sweet line:
---> Xavin: She's beautiful, isn't she? Karolina. She's so soft and tender. She's all that's good in my life...
*** Heck, any Karoline/Xavin moment could probably count.
** Later, while the Runaways and Young Avengers are fighting to escape the lab, a brainwashed alien attacks Old Lace, hurting Chase as a result. To save them, Molly fights off the alien and is thrown against the floor, pretty much leaving her unable to fight back. Chase holds her, assures her that she did good, and promises to protect her. He then turns and fights the alien to keep it away from her. Keep in mind that before this, Chase was still and had very little patience for Molly.

* The final line of the final strip of CalvinAndHobbes: "It's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy... Let's go exploring!"
** The strip where Calvin is depressed that he has to go to bed, because it means he and Hobbes can't play any more... until the two of them realize that they'll be able to play together in their dreams. "Good night, buddy! See you soon!" It's especially touching when you learn that Watterson drew it in tribute to the cat that inspired Hobbes, who had since died.
** Possibly, when Calvin's dad finds out Calvin broke his binoculars--after yelling at Calvin for a bit, he realises that Calvin already feels terrible about it (watching Calvin start crying right in front of him, no less), and forgives him.
** So, so many CMOH in C&H. A wordless Sunday strip where Calvin's dad has too much work to do to play with Calvin, then looks outside and then at his papers, and then joins his son outside to have fun in the snow. * sniffle*
*** Not to mention the final scene from that comic ended with Calvin's dad doing his work at night, while Calvin kisses him on the head before bed. Awwwwwww.
** I may be in the minority, but This Troper finds the strips right at the end and after the Raccoon Story line to be some of the most heartwarming things he's ever seen in the newspaper.
*** This line is either this or TearJerker
->Calvin: I know. I'm crying because [the raccoons]'s gone out there, but he's not gone inside me.

* In Peanuts, the genius of Charles Schultz is encapsulated in one brilliant daily strip where Lucy asks Linus why people teach children to wave "Goodbye", while she is teaching their brother, Rerun, just that. Linus answers "Because for the rest of his life, people will be leaving him." At this dispiriting observation, Rerun looks to the reader and says with defiant hopefulness, "Hello there!"
** In a series of strips in May 1966, Linus and Lucy's father was transferred, and they moved away. Thinking that she'll never see Charlie Brown again, Lucy shook his hand and said: "So long, you ol' blockhead... It's been nice knowing you." letting down her constant crabbiness and showing that deep down, she truly likes Charlie Brown.
** There was another strip where Lucy was complaining how "horrible" her life is. Linus tells her that at least she has a brother who loves her, then she bursts into tears and hugs him. The strip is heartwarming in two ways, one is that Linus finally "triumphed" over Lucy, and the other is that well, she hugged him and all.
** When Charles Schultz died, another comic showed how he fared in the afterlife. Snoopy is pawing at the gates of Heaven, which has a "No Dogs Allowed" sign on it. St. Peter looks down at the man standing before him and says, "I think we can make an exception in your case, Mr. Schultz."
* Get Fuzzy: After returning from a trip to see his parents, Satchel is upset that his father is a rescue dog and that he himself has no accomplishments to be proud of. Rob's response? "You make my life happy, dude. That's huge to me."
** There is one strip where (after 9/11) Rob and Satchel go to give blood. Bucky's responce? When they get back, the hosue is decorated with balloons, signs calling them heroes, and cookies.
** Let's not forget

* One occurs in, of all places, PearlsBeforeSwine. After Rat tells Pig that he can fly by jumping off of the house, Pig does just that, landing himself in the hospital. When Rat visits, a delirious Pig asks if he flew far. Rat responds in his usual rude, biting manner saying "You dumb pig, you..." before pausing and relenting, telling him that he flew all the way to the Moon.
** Another one in Pearls Before Swine has Stephan mourning the death of his father-in-law. Since just describing it would do little to get the heartwarmingness of the moment across, here's the dialogue.

* You wouldn't expect the Punisher to have many of these, and he really doesn't. One, however, comes at the end of WelcomeBackFrank, the first canon Punisher comic that GarthEnnis wrote for Marvel. Castle is living in a rundown apartment complex with three oddball neighbors: the enthusiastic punk weirdo "Spacker" Dave, the cheerfully obese Mr. Bumpo, and the meek and timid Joan. As he starts becoming familiar with them, he decides it's time to finish up his current mission and move on--only to be shot six times in the chest by an unexpected attack force of mafia soldiers. Dave and Joan find him bleeding out in his apartment and call a mob doctor known for keeping his mouth shut to help the Punisher, and while he's healing he and Joan talk about life. Joan admits that she's terrified of New York City, but can't leave. Frank doesn't believe it, and tells her it's as simple as "Just go[ing]." After he heals and takes out the mob boss, he finds a million dollars in her house safe...which he splits up three ways and leaves for his neighbors to find, along with a note for Joan that says "Just go." Their reactions, and especially Joan's look of tender joy and gratitude, definitely qualify for this trope.
** The scene is repeated, though with less emotion, in the 2004 Punisher movie.

I'm pretty sure she didn't drown—if the Punisher had unwittingly killed an innocent person, especially someone he was trying to save, it would have made more mention of it. That's some pretty serious shit for the Punisher. Also, if it had killed her, this would belong in Tear Jerker, not CMOH.

* In the Punisher: Max run "The Slavers", probably one of the darkest, grittiest, and most gut wrenchingly dark stories to be published in a mainstream comic in the last 10 years, Frank Castle slips an anesthetic into a pot of stew being served at one the Slaver's safe house so he could take them out without hurting the sex slaves, and to take one of them alive. However once inside he learns that one of the sex slaves also ate the stew... and drowned face down in the bowl. The panels where Frank Castle of all people tenderly lifts the woman's head up and wipes her face while his monologue says "I figured I'd cross this bridge when I came to it. But inspiration wasn't coming." almost had me in tears. The juxtaposition of this scene and the next with Frank's rather... brutal method of interrogating Cristu, one of the heads of the slaver ring, is shocking and effective.

* In Jango Fett: Open Seasons, Jango has to watch his mentor and surrogate father gunned down because Montross, a volatile and cruel Mandalorian, flies away instead of helping him. When Jango appears in front of Montross (who thought he was dead), he says that first they're going to get Jaster's body off that rock, then they're going to hunt the man who killed him. Montross, trying to appear sympathetic, tells Jango that he has a chance to do right by Jaster, and that he should be in charge. Jango tells him that that's not his call to make, and reveals to the mercenaries that Montross abandoned Jaster to die alone. At that moment, Silas, an injured Mandalorian that Jango had been supporting, pulls his blaster on Montross and says, "I'll follow Jango Fett, and no one else." It's such an "I've got your back" moment of camaraderie that it has to invoke a CMOH.
** And immediately afterwards, Montross tells Jango that he's crazy and the others will never follow him. The next panel, Montross is surrounded by Mandalorians all pointing their guns at him. Same as above for why this is a CMOH.

* In a StarWars: Empire comic arc detailing the backstory of Biggs Darklighter, Biggs and some friends jump ship after being discovered by a fellow Imperial Officer and brown noser Derek "Hobbie" Klivian plotting to mutiny. After trying unsuccessfully to find rebels, smugglers, or anyone that could help them (they are confined in TIE Fighters, unable to travel very far, and air is running out), they return to the ship, planning to steal more fuel and air and leave again before the crew knows what's going on. However, they find it full of signs of battle damage, far more than they had caused when they left. On the bridge, a badly injured but stable Klivian greets them and tells them that if they'd let him get out a word before trying to slit his throat, they would have learned that they weren't the only cell with Rebel sympathies on the ship. He then asks if Biggs is going to pull rank and assume command. Biggs, who had hated Hobbie since first meeting him, says that it seemed to him that Hobbie had earned command of the ship, and salutes him. This marks the beginning of a deep friendship between the two.

* In a one-shot issue of StarWars simply called Jango Fett, Jango tells his droid caretaker how he hates leaving Boba for long periods of time. He wishes that he could just sit down and be a father for a while, but his last job ended without him getting paid and he needs to make up for lost credits. Then he goes over to his five-year-old son, who is playing with action figures (and, in a CMOH all of its own, one of them is a model of Jango Fett himself), and tells him that he has to go again. The dejected Boba asks if he has to leave right then, and Jango smiles and says "No. Not right now," as the next page shows him playing with his son.

*** I think what stops Rorschach in his tracks is the fact that he identifies himself with the children at that point. His mother was a prostitute, he had a miserable life about it. The fact that his land ladies' children don't know yet, that they are sheltered from it, is what stops him. His mom being a prositute, and him being aware, is what contributed him to being Rorschack. By backing down, doesn't Rorschack offer these kids a better life than he had? (They'll find out anyway, but at least it's not him who broke it to them).
----> Also, as the landlady says this, she is hugging two of her children, trying to comfort them as the scary man confronts her. I somehow doubt Rorcharch's mom was much of a hugger.

* From DorkTower, the goodbye chat between Gilly and her brother Walden as she prepares to leave for London.
-->Walden: "Can't say I blame you. There's not much keeping anyone here... guy-wise, anyway."
-->Gilly: "Oh, I dunno. There's this one fella who's kinda cool. Sometimes he lets his anger get the better of him, and he's not having the easiest time of it at the moment. But I think he's pretty special. An' anyway, he's got a big heart, he's smart and funny and totally underappreciated."
-->Walden: "Do I know this loser?"
-->Gilly: "Probably. He's my big brother. And one day I hope I find a guy kinda like him."
-->(Beat. Hug.)
-->Gilly: "Well, except maybe for the gay part, of course."
-->Walden: "Well, duh!"

* CableAndDeadpool #50. After seeing Deadpool alternate between PsychoForHire, HeroicSociopath and JerkAss for most of the comic it is great to see him go out and be a hero because he wanted to be one. The scene at the end where he decides to share some beers with his friends is what really drives it home.
