*An entire episode devoted to DungeonsAndDragons, and not one mention of character alignment? It would have been a funny bit discussing such things as who's where, and... you know, stuff.

*** RE: The paintball game, the Dean's decision to give out priority registration to Jeff anyway could possibly have been the fact that there was an obviously rather strong, rather pissed off guy in his office running on adrenaline from playing paintball all night and the Dean -- not the strongest-looking guy -- wanted to minimize his chances of getting punched as much as possible. Plus, as far as anyone else was aware, Jeff won the prize legit; they didn't know that it wasn't a legitimate prize until Chang told them, and he only told them after he'd lost.

** This is, to be fair, a universe which runs on a fairly heightened sense of the surreal anyway.

*** If you watch the DVD commentary, Dan Harmon makes it clear that they didn't mean to abruptly end the Slater-Jeff relationship, but they had already stunt-cast Katharine McPhee as a love interest for Jeff.

*** I see this as completely in character - Abed was clearly raised in an american-media-adverse house. As someone who was raised in such a situation/culture, I can definitely say you end up watching more of the old stuff, because the new stuff is seen as the most dangerous.

\"Darwinist\" has been renamed to \"The Social Darwinist\"

* The group's behavior towards Chang after the pop-and-lockathon was severely out of character for their late Season 1 selves, except for possibly Troy (who still has quite a bit of JerkJock resurface on occasion) and Jeff (who is Darwinist a selfish jerk most of the time, but was also the guy who told the group to let Chang in in [=S2E1=]) and definitely Ahbed (not because he's mean, but because the group needs an archenemy). And Pierce. Okay, so it was really just out of character for Britta, Shirly, Annie, and probably Jeff, but especially after Jeff learned the value of welcoming friends into your life, I fully expected him to say "come on, give the guy a break" (even if it was followed by a scathingly snarky comment), but Britta or Shirley should surely have said something if Jeff hadn't. Was it just Plot Induced Sociopathy?

** Rule Of Funny I guess. I mean, all the devastation from the paintball episode, an entire room getting covered in green paint for instance, was just addressed by some janitor mopping away a few paint balls. Not to mention Jeff had no leverage to get the real prize from the dean (sure, maybe he threatened to make the whole thing public and let the media or authorities know that people had been in danger of getting hurt, but then, what about everybody else? Are we supposed to believe nobody else would say anything, even just out of spite?). It's much better if we just invoke Rule Of Funny on all those things, and much more enjoyable.

* The zombie episode. First of all, because it establishes that army developed zombie plagues exist in this universe. Second, and most importantly, because it missed a perfect chance to have a zombie Troy and Abed outro.

*** I think I realized what actually bugged me about the situation. It's not that they should have been more friendly, it's that they zig-zagged back from being friendly or ambivalent to Chang into not caring about or actively disrespecting him. He was/is a horrible person who took pleasure from their pain, but earlier in the episode there was no hint that they were still feeling spiteful towards him-- at least after the end of the last episode when Jeff told the group (with seemingly no ulterior motive) that they were going to let Chang into the group in a couple of days, but just let him stew while Jeff recovers and everyone mumbled in a positive tone.

to:

** Because a bunch of grown ups beating the shit out of highschool students on school grounds is totally the right logical thing to do. That would just be weird and uncomfortable and slightly dark, ruining the entire episodes general silly feel of dealing with dumb kids.

* The behavior of the annoying high school kids never meeting its logical end: Anthony Michael Hall's character's fist. This is more a matter of RuleOfFunny versus TruthInTelevision, because it was well-observed at this troper's local community college that many a visiting Freshmen looking for cheap summer credits would run their mouths off to the wrong person (i.e. an older Continuing Education student, or worse, a veteran there on the GI Bill) and promptly get a severe but swift ass-kicking for mocking people when warned it was rude and childish.

*** Whether or not it "worked out for her" is irrelevant. The main point is that she actually went out on a limb and opened up after spending all year hiding behind a brick wall of anger.
