* Law is considered to be somewhat of a TierInducedScrappy when controlled by the AI. He's a GlassCannon who relies primarily off of being able to chain together artes and attacks and never letting the pressure off, because if he gets hit he resets from his "floor" (Which is already fairly high). Put him in the hands of a player who's good at dodging? And he will end up hitting for some crazy damage.
** Heck, he already ends up fairly good even when controlled by the AI when the player gets an accessory that reduces his incoming damage by a flat percentage. Combine this with a lot of defence-enhancing gear and, while not tanky, will be able to survive plenty of hits.

* Rinwell has skills that greatly reduce her casting time when part of a combo. A player can perform her normal attacks, then begin casting high level spells quickly to put out a lot of damage. However, once you are out of AP, you need to start the process over, right? Not so, since dodging instead of moving does not reset Rinwell's combos. So once Rinwell is out of AP, you can just have her dodge repeatedly until her AP is refilled, then continue casting with all of your cast time reductions intact.

* Adding +30% Counterattack Damage on accessories does not, as one might think, enhance damage when using Counter Edge after a dodge. What it actually does is add damage any time the enemy is attacking at all. Since enemies spend most of their time attacking, you can craft an accessory that gives an almost permanent 120% damage boost. Give it to Alphen, spam his aforementioned overtuned artes, and watch every fight become trivial.

* Velvet's Therion mode is considered overpowered by many players, since it gives her an easy means to extend her combo while granting her superarmor. While this mode drains her HP and lowers her defense, she cannot die in this mode and will instead unleash a finishing arte at 1 HP. If she has enough souls saved up, she can activate Therion mode again to prevent the enemy from finishing her off, giving the player a chance to regain their momentum in a tough fight. This can be made easier by obtaining the Armory Acerites that grant additional souls at the start of battle.

* Overray Mirrage Artes tend to have great effects that last a long time and can really turn the tide of a battle under the right cirumstances. However, some tend to be very useful in every situation and can cause a character to be powerful enough to come close or even reach Game Breaker status.
** As users of the Chromatus, Ludger, Julius and Victor all have an effect that will make certain battles a joke. Upon activation, all enemy spells will be nullified and at max enhancement, this can last up to thirty seconds. Mages, especially in groups, tend to be annoying when they're casting spells left and right, but arte shuts them down completely, as they start going into a stagger animation when they attempt to cast. If an enemy mage has very little or no melee options, they're basically a sitting duck awaiting the onslaught that awaits them.
** Mithos, Shirley, Meredy, Will, Tear, Milla Maxwell and Laphicet have an Overray that makes their combos and spells even better upon activation, and this lasts up to 30 seconds. Their first effect is that their first normal attack in a combo will have greater reduction of an enemy iron stance, which is great for the melee characters. The second effect is the more powerful effect, however. Spells gain an additional Iron Stance break equal to the spell's CC cost. Characters that have physical artes can play the mixed attacker more effectively since they have their melee attacks and physical artes to reduce casting time to make use of their spells' Iron Stance break and if their artes have Iron Stance break enhancements, it's even better. But the second Overray effect benefits mages immensely, since their arte pool is mostly spells, meaning that they will always make use of the increased Iron Stance break. As such, spells that consume lots of CC to cast will almost guarantee an Iron Stance break, especially Master Artes where CC consumption is extremely high.

For that reason, Reverse Mirrage Gears whose Master Artes are spells benefit greatly as a combo opener.
** Marta, Keele and Rutee's Overray Mirrage Artes can help the whole team in a meaningful way, as after using them, the entire party's MG will automatically fill gradually, though allies only get 1/3 of the amount of MG the user gets. Even if it's a little, every bit of MG gained during the effect time helps in a lot of situations. It can help the party regain MG after using their own Mirrage Artes when MG gained from arte usage gets reduced when a Mirrage Arte is used. It can give the last bit of the MG required to be able to use a Mirrage Arte if the party is struggling to gain more MG. What's more, fully enhanced Overrays with this effect has it last one minute, the longest out of any Overrage Mirrage effects. By the time this is done, the amount of MG filled is enough to come close to having a Seasonal Mirrage with an 80 MG cost ready.

** Barbatos. In addition to the aforementioned strong stats and super armor, his selection of artes is incredible, with False Guilty being able to knock down when enhanced, the majority of his artes being able to re-stand knocked down enemies, Dead Inforno being a huge aoe that pulls in enemies and launches them a little, ideal for crowd control; and even an anti-air grab move that goes through Iron Stance. Two of his three Mirrage Artes gained from the gacha are capable of refilling his CC when enhanced and have outrageous damage output, but the effects of both make them even better. His normal Mirrage Arte, World Destroyer, is the highest launcher in the game and has almost no recovery time on top of that, making it an ideal Mirrage chain ender since it's one of the few where it's not only possible, but easy to combo afterwards. His Decisive Mirrage Arte grants him a boost in movement speed, mitigating his slow movement speed, but also inflicts anyone hit by it with Slow (which slows their movement speed). Combined with the CC refill, it makes it nearly impossible for an enemy to escape not only Barbatos himself, but from other allies waiting to join him in slaughtering the enemy caught up in it. His seasonal Mirrage Arte inflicts Stun to temporarily immobilze enemies, but it is also the cheapest Mirrage Arte in terms of MG requirements, making placing it as his front Mirrage to select his more powerful ones a viable strategy. Barbatos is one of only two boss characters to have Spirit Gear. Not only does this give him auto-block on Dark element attacks, he gains a second anima in Violet, allowing him to enjoy the bonuses of Violet Anima Boosts and care share it with fellow Game Breaker Mithos (see below).
** Mithos. On top of his solid stats, his arte selection is also impressive as well, but two particular artes really make him stand out. Distortion Blade has a large AoE and can be enhanced to easily break through iron stance. Eternal Slasher allows him to teleport behind enemies, allowing him to safely combo with his other artes as well. His Mirrage Artes are all solid as well. His normal Mirrage Arte, Eternal Divide, has the utility that makes Mithos broken. It is one of few Mirrage Artes that are capable of damaging all enemies in the battlefield, has great damage output and can be enhanced to recover health with each hit (which can add up the more enemies there are in the battlefield). The best part about it is that it pulls all enemies towards the center of the battlefield. This allows it to be great in a Mirrage chain no matter when it is activated. It can be a great opener to a Mirrage chain, since it'll allow all other Mirrage Artes afterwards to easily hit multiple enemies at once since Mithos's already pulled the enemies to an ideal position. It can be used after a Mirrage Arte that caused multiple enemies to be spread out again, allowing Mithos to reposition them, or it can be used as the finisher to a Mirrage Chain, where its damage output is at its highest in a chain. That alone makes Mithos solid, but he later got three more Mirrage Artes. His casino themed Seasonal Mirrage Arte inflicts Terror, reducing the amount of actions an enemy can do and can be enhanced to refill his CC to combo his artes again. It also has the lowest MG requirements out of all of his Mirrage Artes, so one can put it as his first Mirrage and use it to be able to select all his other Mirrage Artes. The effects of his Overray Mirrage Arte (as explained above) compliment his arte pool very well, allowing him to take on multiple roles as well. Finally, he has a Crossover Mirrage Arte with Lloyd and one of only two boss characters to have one. Though he can use it on his own, if used in the right conditions, Mithos has access to another powerful Mirrage Arte with the benefit of healing both him and Lloyd.
** Victor. As the third boss character, he set the standard on what a solid boss character is capable of outside of solid stats. In his case, he's versatile in being able to fight up close and from afar. And for newer players, his recruitment chapter is available as soon as they complete the tutorial. However, Victor's main highlight is debuting with an Overray mirrage arte. Sharing its effect with Ludger and Julius, Victor's Overray has an additional effect of nullifying all enemy spells for about half a minute, more than enough time to decimate mages who can rarely defend themselves from melee onslaughts. Victor's only real drawback is his lackluster self-healing which hurts his long-term survivability, but his massive HP pool and up to three allies supporting him practically makes that negligible.

** He has one Tech that lets him keep combos going on his own for as long as he wants. Which one? Demon Fang. That's right, the first Tech he has, is also his most useful. Simply put, it picks up enemies that are Knocked Down, whether due to his own attacks (Technical Knockdown) or due to the number of combo hits (Inevitable Knockdwown). A simple and pretty infamous loop is Demon Fang > Twin Tiger Blade > Repeat. Demon Fang chains into Twin Tiger Blade, which knocks the enemy down. Then you pick them up with Demon Fang and then knock them down again. There are many combo videos and videos of Lloyd taking down the Bonus Boss solo by keeping him locked in this loop.

* While not exactly useful against bosses, assigning [Sylph and Arche's weaker spells to your hotkeys basically ensures an instant win against the incredibly powerful monsters in Shadow's cave. Being able to cast high level spells much faster than your characters can is not as useful as you'd think when the other guy is constantly knocking you out of your casting with a puny little ice needle. Of course, everyone should thank Dhaos for showing it to us with Tetra Spell, which basically fires all three of the weakest spells in the game at you at once, knocking you off balance for the truly epic ass-kicking he's following it up with.

Alternatively, you can load him up with Boost Gauge increases, trading a bit of overkill damage in exchange for the ability to permanently stunlock most enemies (Alphen's boost attack always downs enemies, and with enough gauge bonuses, it will recharge before the enemy can get back up).

** Mithos, Shirley, Meredy, Will, Tear and Milla Maxwell have an Overray that makes their combos and spells even better upon activation, and this lasts up to 30 seconds.

* Ix in general is a pretty useful character and continues to be such as time goes on. He is a universal anima character, so he gets x1.5 stats for all missions, regardless of anima. If you apply overray to him, he gets x2.0 stats, a full mirrage gauge right at beginning of a quest, health constantly regenerating, and the cost of all artes being reduced by one cc. Furthermore, he has many very useful artes like Rising Falcon, Obliteration Surge, and Shredding Talon, all of which allow Ix to move around enemies with ease. He also has an Overray Mirrage, which speeds up his normal attacks and increases the amount to six - enough to allow him to use Master Artes much earlier - in exchange for poisoning himself, which means very little with a healer. The introduction to Spirit Gear improves him even further, as it can essentially give him a total of three Mirrage Artes. Spirit gear also can be enhanced to auto-block those of its' element (in his case, light) and do more damage to enemies that are light based. Spirit Gear also gives him x2.0 stats for Blue anima missions as if he's Blue anima, an anima that's filled with solid characters and has the most Overray Mirrages at the time of writing (Ludger, Victor, Julius, Milla Maxwell, Shirley). The best part is that, being the protagonist, Ix frequently shows up in many banners, so there are plenty of chances to gear him up to be a respectable fighter.

Both Two of his three Mirrage Artes gained from the gacha are capable of refilling his CC when enhanced and have outrageous damage output, but the effects of both make them even better. Combined with the CC refill, it makes it nearly impossible for an enemy to escape not only Barbatos himself, but from other allies waiting to join him in slaughtering the enemy caught up in it.
it.

** Mithos, Shirley, Meredy, Tear and Milla Maxwell have an Overray that makes their combos and spells even better upon activation, and this lasts up to 30 seconds. Their first effect is that their first normal attack in a combo will have greater reduction of an enemy iron stance, which is great for the melee characters. The second effect is the more powerful effect, however. Spells gain an additional Iron Stance break equal to the spell's CC cost. This allows Tear, Mithos and Milla to play the mixed attacker more effectively since they have their melee attacks and physical artes to reduce casting time to make use of their spells' Iron Stance break and if their artes have Iron Stance break enhancements, it's even better. For the mages Shirley and Meredy, this helps them immensely, since all but one of their artes are spells, meaning that they will always make use of the increased Iron Stance break. What makes this especialy good for them is that Shirley and Meredy both have screen nukes in the forms of Tidal Wave and Acid Rain, respectively. Shirley will almost guarantee a broken Iron Stance for all enemies thanks to Tidal Wave's high CC consumption. Meredy, meanwhile, will enjoy a quick casting spell that also reduces all enemies' defense and the Iron Stance might just be reduced enough so that if Meredy doesn't do it herself, someone else will easily finish breaking it.

* Zelos's Personal skill causes female [=NPCs=] to give him free items, with his luck stat increasing the chances of getting something valuable. Equipping luck-increasing gear will certainly help, but the game-breaking part is that exiting and re-entering a town will cause all the gifts to reset, allowing for endless item farming.

The best part is that, being the protagonist, Ix frequently shows up in many banners, so there are plenty of chances to gear him up to be a respectable fighter.

The introduction to Spirit Gear improves him even further, as it can essentially give him a total of three Mirrage Artes. Spirit gear also can be enhanced to auto-block those of its' element (in his case, light) and do more damage to enemies that are light based. Spirit Gear also gives him x2.0 stats for Blue anima missions as if he's Blue anima, an anima that's filled with solid characters and has the most Overray Mirrages at the time of writing (Ludger, Victor, Milla, Shirley). The best part is that, being the protagonist, Ix frequently shows up in many banners, so there are plenty of chances to gear him up to be a respectable fighter.

** The Devil's Arm quickly becomes infinitely more powerful then any weapon in the game (doing more than 10 times his next most powerful), because its power increases when the character makes a kill (even if they haven't found them yet), Lloyd, being the main character, is in the party for all but two short sections and gets the lion's share of kills over the game (and kill count can be carried over for NewGamePlus).

** Patty's Critical Moment arte is a dice roll, but one of the possible results is an effect that grants Overlimit to your entire party. It's telling that Patty strategies in optional boss fights boil down to "spam Critical Moment until you get All Overlimit".

** Patty's Critical Moment arte is a dice roll, but one of the possible results is an effect that grants Overlimit to your entire party. It's telling that Patty strategies in optional boss fights boil down to "spam Critical Moment until you get All Overlimit". The main drawback is that some of the negative outcomes include emptying the Overlimit Guage and decreasing the entire party's stats. However, this can be mitigated with the Safe Bet skill, which prevents good and bad outcomes from happening. With the skill equipped, the worst that can happen with Critical Moment could be everyone on the battlefield falling on the ground or a rain of Pow Hammers, both of which can easily be mitigated. Safe Bet still allows access to Overlimit, but only OVL 1 and OVL 2. But Safe Bet significantly cuts down the list of outcomes to a very small number, which means a higher chance of the entire party being in Overlimit.

* The UsefulNotes/NintendoWii version gave Hubert a combo capable of one-shotting the giant BonusBoss Rockgagong, netting the party around 30 levels in one shot. Patched out in the [=PS3=] version.
