* JerkAss: At the end of the first movie, the crowd ''[[AndThereWasMuchRejoicing cheers]]'' when the mayor gets disemboweled.

* TooSoon: Awesomely averted. ''Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV'' was released in the States shortly after 9/11. While most films underwent editing to remove images of the Trade Center, ''Citizen Toxie'' didn't. It received a standing ovation from a New York audience for this.

* BringMyBrownPants: The fourth movie begins with Toxie fighting a band of terrorists calling themselves "The Diaper Mafia". Those diapers get used. Yes.

* PreAssKickingOneLiner[=/=]BondOneLiner: Toxie is one of the all time masters of the bon mote, up there with Film/JamesBond, Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger, [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]], and [[Film/EvilDead Ash Williams]].

* CompleteMonster: Bozo in the 1st movie who runs over a kid on bike simple for shit and giggles.

* FanDisservice: Played straight and averted. Obviously, Toxie having sex with a beautiful (albeit blind) woman, but averted in that this is one of the few of LloydKaufman's movies that doesn't feature the hyper-skinny "women" Lloyd seems to like so much. Also, the fourth movie has a very buxom chick with blue hair making out with Toxie's wife. We'd say ItMakesSenseInContext, but really, it makes even '''MORE''' sense because it's a {{Troma}} movie.

* RecycledTheSeries: The cartoon spinoff, ''Toxic Crusaders''. Replaced all the R-rated elements with jokes and ridiculousness, and, the [[FridgeBrilliance fact it was and will be a]] {{Troma}} production, it actually kinda works.

* AntiHero: Melvin could be considered a [[SlidingScaleOfAntiHeroes Type IV]].

* DetectEvil: Toxie has an innate ability to sense evildoers.

* AmusingInjuries: The sequels got way more cartoony and so did the death scenes. Like a midget being crushed into a ball and used as a basketball in II and a henchmen getting his face erased in a video store with a tape eraser in III.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: The Toxic Avenger tends to do this to his victims, [[JerkAss but they]] [[AssholeVictim always have]] [[PayEvilUntoEvil it coming.]]

In the first film alone police officer O'Clancy is kicked in the groin when he gets attacked by the mook Cigar Face and his "bi-friends" Knuckles and Nipples, and then Cigar Face almost shoots O'Clancy's manhood off just as the Toxic Avenger arrives to beat him and his fellow mooks up. First Toxie grabs Nipples by the groin and tosses him at Knuckles (who faints after seeing what's under Nipples' skirt) and then proceeds to grab Cigar Face by his groin, stuff him in a trash can and proceeds to punch him in the groin repeatedly before tossing him away; when Cigar Face gets out of the can, clutching himself, he screams a parting threat in a high pitched voice. In the ensuing fast food restaurant fight Toxie suffers a groin attack himself (and suffers two more later in the film from his blind girlfriend of all people) before righteously vanquishing the mooks who were holding the restaurant up (and punishes the mook who kicked him in the groin by burning his hands with cooking oil). Before leaving Toxie shoves the lead mook in the oven and then stuffs a mop in his groin.

*** Also Michael Jai White in a mobster suit, beating up homeless people with French bread. A bystander tries to object and ends up taking a [[TalkToTheFist picture perfect spin kick to the mouth]].

* AuthorFilibuster: ''The Last Temptation of Toxie'' is pretty much entirely an [[TrueArtSticksItToTheMan anti-corporation]] AuthorFilibuster. [[spoiler:The head of the Apocalypse Corporation is literally TheDevil.]]

** At one point, the Noxious Offender gets a nosebleed. Cue him muttering "noseblood" and [[CitizenKane dropping a snowglobe]]. Then again, since the movie is titled "Citizen Toxie", it would be odd NOT to have a [[CitizenKane Citizen Kane]] reference.

* HeyItsThatGuy: The fourth movie is full of cameos, including StanLee, CoreyFeldman, and [[{{Motorhead}} Lemmy]]. Also, RonJeremy plays the mayor.
