** Newt at one point mentions Kaiju having a secondary brain like dinosaurs. Except dinosaurs didn't have secondary brains; the so-called "sacral brain" came from a misunderstanding as to the purpose of an expanded spinal canal over certain dinosaurs' hips. While there is still some question about what this expanded canal ''was'' for, it definitely wasn't another brain. Although, it's vaguely implied by ambiguous wording that [[spoiler:dinosaurs were actually the Precursors' early attempt at creating Kaiju]].

The fact ''almost all land animals'' have such a canal and the "second brain" idea was debunked as far back as the 1920s makes it even more egregious. Although, it's vaguely implied by ambiguous wording that [[spoiler:dinosaurs were actually the Precursors' early attempt at creating Kaiju]].Kaiju]].
** Adding onto it, the novelization more or less confirms dinosaurs were an earlier attempt by the Precursors at making kaiju, but failed quickly and they never tried again. Numerous facets of biology and paleontology firmly established for decades that dinosaurs evolved on earth, are part of the family tree of tetrapod life, and had a multi-millions year long evolutionary history with dominance of all terrestrial ecosystems for over one hundred million years. They didn't just suddenly show up in the fossil record and die out suddenly after scourging the ecosystem of "native" forms. It's been more or less proven birds are, in fact, dinosaurs themselves for multiple decades by the time the movie takes place. The fact Newt is supposed to be a biologist makes this even more egregious as it results in him coming off as a moron.

** '''Family'''. All of the regular Jaeger pilot teams we see, barring Raleigh and Mako, are related in one way or another, and there's a recurring theme of surrogate family members. ** The Kaiju are ranked by category, from Category 1 (easily trounced by Jaegers) to Category 5 (virtually unstoppable). This is the same way that RealLife hurricanes and tornadoes are rated, playing up how Kaiju assaults are more like natural disasters than creature-attacks. This is {{lampshaded}} by Raleigh at the beginning of the movie:
