* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: The Jerkass younger brother, Joshua, is genuinely shocked when he realized to have just shot his brother, Jason's, girlfriend, Lyric, despite initially attempted to do so to prevent Jason from leaving him. To rub salt into his wound, this becomes the last straw that eventually makes Jason no longer care about him but chooses to rather save his girlfriend instead and decide to walk out on him for good.

* PleaseWakeUp: When his girlfriend, Lyric, is (accidentally) shot by his own brother, Joshua, Jason tearfully pleads her to stay strong by reminding about their plan to escape town together (after he initially called it off, out of brotherly love). [[spoiler:Thankfully, Lyric miraculously survives as she and Jason are seen riding a bus together in the end.]]

* TraumaCongaLine: Jason witnessed his used-to-be-loving father, Maddog, turned abusive ever since coming home from Vietnam War as a veteran and lost his leg that he [[spoiler:[[AccidentalMurder accidentally killed]] him when trying to stop his old man from potentially killing him and his mother.]] As adults, his younger brother, Joshua, becomes volatile and criminal-minded, but he has to put up with him as he [[spoiler:feels guilty for killing their dad in front of him and to look out for him.]] When he could eventually bring himself to walk away from Joshua while carrying the unconscious Lyric after his brother (accidentally) shot her out of jealousy, Joshua decides to [[spoiler:[[DrivenToSuicide shoot himself]] out of despair.]] Thus, he must lose another family member to a gunshot (again).
