* NegativeContinuity: Stock footage aside, the plot doesn't appear to connect to any of the previous films. Gamera is initially considered fictional in-universe, and it's implied that Keiichi's pet turtle becomes Gamera in this film.
** That's not exactly true; this was Noriaki Yuasa's way of giving a TakeThat to the many many children who actually thought their pet turtles would turn into Gamera back when the original film came out in 1965 (yes, they really thought that). Basically, Keiichi, being a Gamera-obsessed young boy, is a mild CreepyChild and nothing more. When Gamera is under the control of Zanon midway through the film, it is noted that the military is shocked Gamera has FaceHeelTurn ed.

* TakeThat: During Gamera's BrainwashedAndCrazy attack on a city, he destroys a billboard advertising {{Godzilla}}.
** It is a TakeThat, but it isn't Godzilla the poster is advertising. The poster reads "Saraba, Dojira" which COULD be translated as "Farewell, Dogzilla."
* TooCooltoLive: Gamera. And perhaps Giruge.

Gamera Super Monster is the last of the Showa Gamera movies, and is infamous for relying ''heavily'' on footage from not only the previous films, but other films like Galaxy Express 999.

999. The plot concerns war-loving aliens from the distant planet Zanon invading the earth with an army of monsters (Gamera's previous opponents). To wipe out a trio of peaceful alien women living in secret amongst humanity, Zanon sends down their own alien babe to exterminate them. When young Keiichi explains to the three spacewomen about the legendary Gamera, they press him into action as earth's last chance against Xanon and their destructive monsters.

to:

** Originally Gamera lived in the script, but when director Noriaki Yuasa saw the terrible cost-cutting measures Tokuma Publishing was taking on the film, he realized Gamera would never come back from the film, so he and writer Niisan Takahashi decided to kill him off. This is why everyone is still happy at the end: only rudimentary changes were made to the script's ending.
