** Seconded strongly by this troper. LovelyAmberLight writes a very good Nine, brooding, dark, and occasionally goofy, with definite fatherly tendencies towards Lilly. Jackie Tyler, of all characters, is given a wonderful introduction and the character development she always deserved. Also, the main character, Lilly, is the best OC I've ever seen, in any fic. She is very real, terrified by the new universe she's in, but still incredibly brave. The plot is complex, twisting, and full of paradoxes - be sure to pay attention! All in all, an excellent fic.
*** Thirded by this troper, have followed her since her very first chapter. And as someone who knows the author, on ff.net, she also has various crossover fics within Doctor Who with other RealisticFic authors involving OC Companions. A notable one involving Lilly and emptyvoices' Sara Thomas, called Lost in Reality, an alternate timeline/sequel.

Edit of my own Rec

* ''Comments'': There's some slash, but it's really ''not'' the focus (and if it bothers anyone, aside from a stray awkward kiss, nothing actually happens until the epilogue-which is set well after the story proper-and it's easy to just skip over). Ten is hilariously in character and gives Jack the support he needs after COE-which takes the form of giving him hard time while adventuring in a way only the Doctor can. Ianto's memory is present throughout and unlike in a lot Torchwood/Who fics, Jack's relationship with Ianto is not brushed away as only being something on the side for fun in order to make way for a new paring, There's a nice mix of humor, angst, and action true to the show.

* ''Synopsis'': A fiction where a normal person is thrown into the wider Multiverse and regenerated into a Time, Lord. Adopting the name of the Doctor, the new Time Lord travels through the six dimensions of space-time in his TARDIS trying to discover what caused his transformation... forgetting that there is Power in a Name.
* ''Comments'': A 4-part series that while it is a Gary-Stu SI it is well written, well executed, and just...well everything. It uses the Dr.Who series as a base and then blends in other series perfectly: Star Wars(Old Republic Era), Star Trek, The Dresden files, Legend of Korra, VideoGame/MechWarrior, Mass Effect, and plenty of other shout-outs as well. The main character(Known as the SI doctor by WOG) is both likable and relatable. This series needs more attention than it is currently getting. See for yourself.
** By far one of the best fanfictions I have ever read. And I don´t believe that it is that much of a Gary-Stu. (At least not more than the real Doctor himself) While an SI, the story is very well thought out and some has ideas that i have never seen in a FanFic bevor. It has absolutely hilarious moments (Like the reaction of people who knew Doctor Who as a TV-Show before and don't let me start with the Power Rangers.) and very heart-wrenchingly sad scenes. And often it really feels like Doctor Who. I still have no idea why it is so unknown. So go and give it a read!

It uses the Dr.Who series ''Who'' as a base and then blends in other series perfectly: Star Wars(Old ''Star Wars'' (Old Republic Era), Star Trek, The era), ''Star Trek'', ''The Dresden files, Legend Files'', ''Legend of Korra, VideoGame/MechWarrior, Mass Effect, Korra'', ''VideoGame/MechWarrior'', ''Mass Effect'', and plenty of other shout-outs others as well. The main character(Known character (known as the SI doctor Doctor by WOG) is both likable and relatable. This series needs more attention than it is currently getting. See for yourself.
** By far one of the best fanfictions I have ever read. And I don´t don't believe that it is that much of a Gary-Stu. (At Gary Stu (at least not more than the real Doctor himself) himself). While an SI, a SelfInsertFic, the story is very well thought out and some has ideas that i I have never seen in a FanFic bevor. before. It has absolutely hilarious moments (Like (like the reaction reactions of people who knew Doctor Who ''Doctor Who'' as a TV-Show before TV show before, and don't let me start with the Power Rangers.) Rangers) and very heart-wrenchingly sad scenes. And often it really feels like Doctor Who. ''Doctor Who''. I still have no idea why it is so unknown. So unknown, so go and give it a read!

* ''Synopsis'': Crossover with Series/{{Blackpool}}. Boiled down to its most basic form, ''The Way of Things'' is an extremely extensive series centering around the relationship between [[Series/{{Blackpool}} DI Carlisle]] and Rose Tyler.

''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2742650/ Back to the Doctor]]'' by Doctor [=McFly=] (crossover with Franchise/BackToTheFuture)
* Recommended by lanky
* ''Status'': Dormant
* ''Synopsis'': Following the events of the Franchise/BackToTheFuture trilogy, Marty [=McFly=] thinks that he can finally settle down and get on with his life. Too bad there are creatures in the universe with an interest in time travelers and the energy they emit. On the bright side, sometimes all you need is a good Doctor to step in and save the day.
* ''Comments'': Essentially a vehicle to explore the idea of Marty [=McFly=] as the Tenth Doctor's companion. What is really fascinating about the whole thing is that Doctor [=McFly=] manages to capture the 'voice' of both Marty and the Doctor extraordinarily well, combining the two and generating genuine character interactions which work. With the stories organized into episodes (beginning with [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6734886/1/Frozen_In_Time Frozen In Time]], it makes for a nice, quick read. The author currently plans to write twelve 'episodes' consisting of four or five chapters apiece (and they're into the fourth 'episode' already). Worth a look.

* ''Synopsis'': The Doctor is moping after the events of "Runaway Bride," and his TARDIS decides to snap him out of his funk by dropping him in Alliance Territory. He gets rescued from a bar brawl which was caused by the color of his coat, and off he goes with our favorite crew.
* ''Comments'': ''{{Series/Firefly}}'' crossover. No, don't run away yet, I swear it's good!
** @/{{Kraken17}}: Read it. IT'S GOOD!
** @/SadisticApathy: Any one of the half-dozen scenes between the Doctor and River is worth it.
** Brilliant. Every single person is exactly in character. One of the best fanfictions I've ever read.
** Raz_Fox: Sweet Gallifrey, this Fic is the best I've ever read. The author has a ''perfect'' grasp on the Tenth Doctor's personality!
** @/UncloudedTJ: Has perfect characterization and an awesome villain that doesn't seem to be forced at all. Definitely worth the read if you're a fan of either series.
** Mariecat: Sixthed! Loved every word and everything makes perfect sense in either series.
** @/{{Squall}}: To quote the Ninth Doctor: fantastic. And I'd give a lot to see a sequel, preferably where River travels with the Doctor for a year in the comparative space of ten to fifteen seconds.
** @/KathrynShadow: Eighthed. Definitely. It... I... There are no words. It is amazing in every possible way. Seriously. Go read it. NOW.
** Trimeta: Ninthed. Seriously, a must for any fan of both series. Even if you're not normally into fanfic, read this. (Though I suppose if you're not normally into fanfic, why are you on the fanfic recommendation page? No matter, stop reading what I'm typing and go read this story.)
** @/{{randomfanboy}}: Tenthed! Characterization is spot on! Writing is good! Worst I can say is that it feels a bit weird when things get too Doctor Who-ish (i.e. when the very Who-ish villain shows up) but it's many good aspects outweigh that one bad one.
** @/{{Scionofgrace}}: Eleventhed! This is one high-quality fic. It does justice to both universes, and the climax is chilling.
** @/{{Revelo}}: Twelved! This is one of the best crossovers I've read, both universes are integrated seamlessly, everyone is right in character and with a villain that doesn't feel out of place. Why are you still reading this page, go read the story!
** Zankaru Zelladonii: Bloody fantastic read!
** @/{{Sakan4k}} If you like both Series/{{Firefly}} and Series/DoctorWho, you'd be a fool not to read this. Never have I heard a character's voice in my head so clearly as I have reading this. Everything is spot on.
** Jerenda I've never seen Firefly, but I may just have to after reading this. Ten's personality is so perfect, it makes me want to hug him and cry all at the same time! <3 This is why I have not given up on fanfic writers yet, because every so often they come up with something as gorgeous as this beauty.
** [=TurnTable=] also agrees. Never before in a fanfiction had she seen such strong characterization and voice - for '''every''' single character, no less.
** @/{{Karasu91}} [[SerialEscalation seventeenthed.]] The writing and the characterisation are nothing short of sublime. The author makes the Tenth Doctor so flawlessly fit inside the Firefly Verse, with believable interactions between the characters that respect their personalities so well that you cannot help to add this to your personal canon. Every single character is well rendered, with dialogue that seems to come right out of the original shows, and the plot is good and intriguing enough to leave you dying to see it on screen, closing your eyes to see the scenes in your mind's eye and hear the Doctor's Theme played on an Old West guitar. A must read for every Series/{{Firefly}} and Series/DoctorWho fan!!
** mestizaa: Eighteenthed. This troper is usually quite dubious about crossover fics, but this one made it work. Like really, really, really well. It stays true to both fandoms, and even if you're not familiar with Firefly, it's worth the read.
** [=LondonPurple=]: this is getting a bit ridiculous, but nineteenthed. Brilliant character portrayal, tight story writing, great mythology integration. An excellent story, worth reading alone for the spot-on depiction of the Tenth Doctor.
** @/StClair: Guess that makes me a nice round twenty. It's kind of scary how well the Doctor meshes with the crew of ''Serenity'', Mal and River especially (and it's very sweet watching him with Kaylee too), and everyone just crackles.
** Magyareagle: And number 21 goes to me. I've watched one Doctor Who episode in my entire life, but am a huge fan of firefly, and this captures the cast perfectly.
** theSnazz: Twentyseconded! Brilliant! What can be said about this fic that hasn't already been said? JUST READ IT ALREADY.
** @/{{KingPenguin23}}: Twenty-thirded. This is the fanfic that convinced me to give fanfic a chance. I couldn't possibly recommend this more strongly for a fan of either series.
** Agronac919: Twentyfourthed. Everyone one is perfectly in character and it's Doctor Who meets Firefly. What's not to love?
** pencilcillin: Twenty-fifthed. This was such a great read.

* ''Comments'': Pretty genuinely heartbreaking, and incredibly well-written. Not too much plot (although Inertia has an excellent one), but so totally worth reading. The author is an amazing writer.
** @/TheMeddler: Seconded. And the threequel, Rewind, is really good. I won't say much, but imagining what [[spoiler: young!Doctor/Theta Sigma]] looks like might make your brain melt from sheer adorkableness. If that even makes sense, anyways.

* Now has its own page [[FanFic/BeingToTimelessness here,]] which NeedsWikiMagicLove.
* Status: Dormant series, but with completed stories
* Pairing: Ten / Rose
* Synopsis: During "Parting of the Ways," when Rose harnessed the power of the Vortex, Bad Wolf saw a timeline where it could finally be the Doctor in the TARDIS with Rose Tyler–just as it should be. She saw, and she pulled… A rewrite of the Tenth Doctor's tenure with Rose
* Comments: This fic is a very impressive rewrite of the revival series that shows not just what would've happened if Rose hadn't been trapped in Pete's World, but also if she and the Doctor had formed a telepathic bond beforehand. It is very detailed, incredibly thought out, the Doctor and Rose's romance is nicely executed, and the same love is given to their companions. The first part, "To Make Much of Time," covers series 2 from "Tooth and Claw" onwards, which already had Rose, so the changes there are mostly under the surface and in the parts between the stories[[note]]Like the Doctor actually saving some of the surviving Ood at the end of "The Impossible Planet"; or "The Girl in the Fireplace" being completely rewritten to eliminate the Doctor's infatuation with Reinette[[/note]]. Part 2, "Time is Still a Flying," covers series 3 and adds Martha to the mix, and one thing that becomes clear is that unlike most "series 3 and 4 with Rose" fics that generally seem to insert Rose without really considering how her presence would change the dynamics of every situation, this one understands how the Doctor would be a very different man if he had Rose by his side, and how that changes each story.[[note]]e.g. the Doctor kisses Rose instead of Martha to distract the Judoon in "Smith & Jones"; the Doctor figures out in "The Shakespeare Code" much sooner that the witches are Carrionites; in the Dalek two-parter, he tries to negotiate with the Daleks instead of trying to goad them into killing him; in "The Lazarus Experiment," Rose softens up Francine to the point that she's not inclined to think the Doctor is a threat to Martha's wellbeing, etc.[[/note]] This story even manages to make the Master a much more compelling villain. Then after "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and "Taking Time," two interim stories that cover "The Voyage of the Damned" and the period before series 4, part 5 "Forever and Never Apart" covers series 4 with Donna, and the changes to the Doctor's personality really shine in how they change the storytelling and the resolution to the stolen planets arc. This part also makes the bold deviation of having the Doctor take Jenny along in the TARDIS for an extra companion from "The Doctor's Daughter" onwards. So far the author has covered the Tenth Doctor's seasons, and currently has plans for extra fics covering the Tenth Doctor, Rose and their extended family working through the 2009 specials and various groups of episodes from the Eleventh Doctor seasons. It's an absolute must-read.

**''Seconded'' by pencilcillin: This is a mindbogglingly amazing fic, it's kind of impossible NOT to read everything in the characters' voices.

''Fanfic/TheRoadToShalka'' by Soldeed
* Recommended by Veanne
* ''Status'': Complete (series of eight stories)
* ''Synopsis'': In the BBCi animated webcast ''WebAnimation/ScreamOfTheShalka'', a lean, cold-eyed Doctor was embittered, lonely and grieving for some past tragedy. Where did he come from? What past adventures had he experienced? And just what happened to leave him so wounded?
* ''Comments'': A pretty fun read from Eight's introduction (and subsequent regeneration into alt!Nine) up to the moment he and his brand new companion go into the sunset (well, into the spacetime).

* ''Status'': Tantalisingly halfway there...
* ''Crossover with'': Series/{{Torchwood}}
* ''Synopsis'': Jack, taking full advantage of having Matha and Mickey to help him, decides to tidy up the Torchwood basement. They find... let's say, much more interesting stuff than mouldy old boxes. [[spoiler: Namely, somewhat amnesiac (what else) Eight. Also, aliens. At least two kinds, one that likes eating electrical cables.]]
* ''Comments'': I don't normally recommend unfinished fics, but this one is so professionally written I'll do it for faint hope the author will see it and finish. Seriously. It's worth reading for the scene of [[spoiler: Eight playing repairman]] alone. Also, nice, strong psychology and a pleasant horrory tingle when the lights go out.
