* BecauseImGoodAtIt: Snake steals from other ponies partially [[spoiler: to support her sick mother]] and partially because it's the only talent she can really use to make money.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment:
** Gusty's opening monologue establishes that she is frightened of new situations, has a history of violence, and is harboring some big secret.
** When Boomer comes in, she immediately snarks on Gusty's appearance, but shows her reasonable side by being understandably concerned about a convicted criminal coming to stay with them.
** Snake Eyes introduces herself to Gusty by attempting to ''rob her'' and [[JustJokingJustification passing it off as a joke]], quickly establishing her thieving skills, playful attitude, and general lack of tact.

* UnfortunateNames: Snake Eyes' real name is revealed to be [[spoiler: Cookie Cream.]] It's a source of great embarrassment for her.

* FirstPersonSmartass: Boomer is relatively polite on the outside, a ''ruthless'' snarker on the inside.

* AfraidOfTheirOwnStrength: Gusty is. And given that she once [[spoiler: crippled a stallion in a fit of possessive rage]], she has every right to be.

* BlindedByRage: Is implied to be a frequent problem with Gusty, and the reason she ended up on probation in the first place. [[spoiler: During one such instance, she was so enraged that she broke all four of a stallion's legs over the Hero Book.]]

* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Gusty suffers from this despite not having many actual heroics to her name yet. The Hero Book is a big inspiration for this attitude.

* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: Gusty, who aspires to be somepony like those she looks up to in the Hero Book. Beginning the story as a juvenile delinquent, she has some difficulties trying to find a purpose that matches those ideals.

* GlassCannon: Gusty is very strong, [[UnstoppableRage especially when angered]], but not very durable and has a tendency of injuring herself if she hits with too much force.

* GrievousHarmWithABody: Once Gusty gets mad enough at Nopony, she throws the closest thing on-hoof directly at them. [[spoiler: This just so happens to be Snake Eyes.]]

* AffablyEvil: Nopony's blackmail letters are ''exceedingly'' polite, sympathizing with the victims even while demanding monetary payment from them. They even wish Gusty [[spoiler: a speedy recovery]] and choose not to demand bits from her despite having the leverage to do so, only asking for her silence instead.

* AnonymousKillerNarrator: Nopony, when [[spoiler: breaking into Snake's room]] in Chapter 2.
