** Onmyou is mostly a counterpart to Japan, though some references to Chinese and Korean cultures are also included.
* FantasyCounterpartReligion: Shizukato is similar to both {{UsefulNotes/Shinto}} and Britsune Garden's Kami-Shinjin (which the latter is also heavily based on Shinto). Both revolve around worshipping ''kami'', which are nature spirits, and animism. Think of Shizukato and Kami-Shinjin as the real-world Greek and Roman pantheons as they're very similar to each other.

** The Friendship Ceremony has been changed and renamed to the Shinnui Ceremony, a ''VideoGame/FatalFrame''-inspired ritual that is still similar to its canon counterpart, but with all attendees having to wear masks (to prevent the Chosen One from having any further “ties” to Onmyou) and staying silent for the Ceremony Master. There is a different song associated with the Shinnui Ceremony, known as the Shinnui no Uta, which is sung by the Shousha (masked kagura musicians [[ShoutOut similar to the Kanade and Handmaidens from]] ''VideoGame/FatalFrameIII'' and ''[[VideoGame/FatalFrameMaskOfTheLunarEclipse IV]]'').
** The Pocketpedia is renamed to the Royal Tome and takes on the appearance of a large crimson-and-gold book. Its pages are said to be blank when opened manually, but the images of Onmyoujin only show up when activated by the Ocean of Friendship.
** Due to the author not being too keen on Kate being a blonde with blue eyes (pretty much looking like a younger Toys/{{Barbie}}), Kate in this series is said to have dark brown, almost black hair with brown eyes. She has also been confirmed to be Japanese-American in this series.
* GRatedDrug: Catnip (see HighOnCatnip), which is said to be banned in certain prefectures of Onmyou and in Omori Palace.

Yamatoverse Pocketville (formerly known as ''Nihonverse'', also known as ''Onmyou'' 『陰陽』 or ''The Pocketville Onmyou Chronicles'') is a HighFantasy DarkFic web series created by {{Creator/Corgipon}} and is loosely based on the show ''WesternAnimation/PuppyInMyPocketAdventuresInPocketville''. Like its namesake, it is an AlternateUniverse where it takes place in a {{Jidaigeki}}-inspired Pocket Kingdom, known as Onmyou, and its characters reimagined as {{Youkai}}.

''Fanfic/PocketvilleTwilight'', a crossover web novel between this series and the cancelled ''Britsune Garden'' series that is the first known novel of this series, started in August 2019. Another novel, ''Oracle of the Twin Moons'', has started publication in early 2022.

* AdaptationExpansion: This is expected for a series quite like this. Extra, fanmade lore created by the author is added to Nihonverse, including more landmarks and characters.
* AdaptationNameChange: Many items and places are changed to fit the Japanese-style series.

** The Great Peak is called [[PunnyName Mt. Inuji]].
** Puppy Key is renamed to Midorikishima, which means “green tree island”.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Unlike many alternate universes of this show, Nihonverse uses the author's personal art style for its character designs. Compared to the canon style, which include the Pocketville denizens having very humanoid characteristics such as hand-like paws (with thumbs) and flat teeth, Nihonverse characters are more animalistic with more realistic sharp teeth and animal paws. Only humanoid characteristic Nihonverse characters have that the canon ones don't is heads of hair, which are known as manes.

* AlienBlood: All Onmyoujin bleed of different colors depending on the color of their mana.
* AllergicToEvil: Miasma, the antagonistic force of the series, is very much tangible, and can even make Onmyoujin fall ill.
* AlternateUniverse: Unlike many other alternate universes of the show, Nihonverse is perhaps one of the most unique. Both the characters and setting have been altered to the author's preference and to make it more appealing to older audiences.

* AnimalReligion: Shizukato. Its kami are depicted as four-legged spirit creatures.

* BadassAdorable: Every single Onmyoujin is ridiculously adorable, even the Royal Guards who are not afraid to put up a fight with any rogue.

* BilingualBonus: This is expected for a Japanese-themed series like this. Many of the characters' names mean something in Japanese and sometimes terms in said language are used.
* CallARabbitASmeerp: There are a good amount of words that are made up using Japanese syllables in order to make the Pocket Kingdom feel more like a unique culture. However, sometimes actual Japanese words are used too.
** "Otherworlder" refers to an outsider that comes from a separate dimension, while "Scavenger" specifically refers to a devious one. However, the words for humans and anthros are, respectively, "ningen" and "gijinka" (see BilingualBonus).

* DarkerAndEdgier: Nihonverse is known to be a lot more mature than the show it is based on. The topic of death is often brought up, especially when Ava or Eva talks about what happened to their parents, and the Friendship Ceremony (Shinnui Ceremony, as it's called here) has quite a dark truth behind it. Not to mention villains who are even more vile than the Pet Buster himself, the concept of miasma corrupting beings, and more violence, blood, and horror are shown.

*** And to a much lesser degree her sister, Queen Masuyo, though she just acts similar because she tends to get [[LadyDrunk drunk]].
*** Might as well include the other Shirohi members while you're at it.

* CatsAreMean:
** Queen Masuyo, being one of the many feline queens of Onmyou, is very notorious for being this way to her family and even towards her court.
*** Also her sister, Princess Shun, who acts like a total jerkwad towards her niece Mayu.

* TheFairFolk: {{Youkai}} are very elusive and distrusting creatures. Some are good-natured but very shy, others are neutral and may just play tricks on people just for fun, while others are incredibly devious with malicious intents.

* FlowerMotifs:
** Ava's motif is the pink camellia.
** Eva's is the pale yellow English primrose.
** Amaterasu's is the cherry blossom.
* FounderOfTheKingdom: Queen Amahibana, the first and legendary Queen of Onmyou.

* HoldYourHippogriffs: The Pocketers have their own versions of certain phrases.

** The Pocket Kingdom is also known as ''Onmyou'' (means "yin yang" in Japanese), but the canon name has been retained to show that this is an AlternateUniverse of ''Adventures in Pocketville''. The citizens call their kingdom ''Onmyou'', while Otherworlders refer to it as the Pocket Kingdom because they believe it's a kingdom in a "pocket dimension".

** The Pocketpedia is called the Royal Tome, or the Geshiki no Sho in Japanese.

** [[spoiler:Balloon's surname Himawari means "sunflower" in Japanese, and her favourite flower happens to be the sunflower]].

* AwesomeMcCoolName: Nearly all the characters (with the exception of characters who appeared in the show) have Japanese names and even surnames.
** Balloon's actual name is revealed to be [[spoiler:Katsumi Himawari]]. "Balloon" is just the name that was given to her [[spoiler:when she was taken by Kizuna]].
** Amaterasu means "shining heaven" in Japanese, and she is named after a major {{UsefulNotes/Shinto}} goddess. However, InUniverse, her name means "star of the dawn".

* {{Wutai}}: Taken UpToEleven, as the Pocket Kingdom in its entirety has transformed into a feudal Japanese fantasy land with some Chinese and Korean inspiration in its western region, and it's the focal point of this series. Not to mention all of its inhabitants are {{Youkai}} and other mythological creatures.

* AmbiguouslyBi:
** Zull and Gort. After Eva reformed, they eventually had enough of their constant quarrels and became good friends. They remain troublemakers, of course. Since they often share some feelings towards each other and that they've gotten infatuated by two female dogs, this makes them supposedly bisexual.
** Also Daichi. He's married to Eva yet before his relationship with her started, he had a friend named Hifumi whom he would always get into mischief with. There's evidence that they may be more than just friends, but it didn't really blossom as [[spoiler:Hifumi was crushed by a tree before that would happen]].

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: This is a trend in Corgipon's works. There are so many Nihonverse characters...even more so than canon ones!

* MohsScaleOfViolenceHardness: Depends, but the highest Nihonverse has gotten is a 6, bordering on 7. This AU is not afraid to show some violence between the characters, though usually only some amount of blood is shown. Surely this gave the AU a PG-13 rating.

** The Onymoujin are actually yōkai themselves, rather than simply being [[TalkingAnimal Talking Animals]] who are suspiciously humanoid.

* MohsScaleOfViolenceHardness: Depends, but the highest Nihonverse has gotten is a 6. This AU is not afraid to show some violence between the characters, though usually only some amount of blood is shown. Surely this gave the AU a PG-13 rating.

* NoFocusOnHumans: Justified, as the Pocket Kingdom is only home to magical or mythological non-humanoid creatures (with anthropomorphic forms as an exception). Kate is only mentioned throughout the series. WordOfGod stated that it's because she isn't good at drawing human characters.

* MagicalLand: Solsticia, the planet that the Pocket Kingdom is on.
