This is in contrast to her peers, who simply give the specifics of what they need while leaving all the technical details to the Support students.

* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: Bakugo attends UA expecting to be at the top of his class as ever, dominating the rest with his brilliance, unstoppable Quirk, and obvious destiny to be the next #1 Hero. Instead, his entire class comes to outright despise him as the semester goes on, he is not the top of his class, and his team was the only one to get a failing grade in the final exams (largely because of him). It comes to a head at Kiyashi Mall when he refuses to risk his career by lying to cover for Izuku, to which Camie threatens that if he does not cooperate the others will lie about ''Bakugo'' in order to get ''him'' expelled. He is forced to capitulate.
* JerkassHasAPoint: This tends to be Aizawa in a nutshell, due to being a SternTeacher.
** Aizawa's resistance towards Momo trying to take her final exam with new support gear that she's only received mere hours before the test in question. On one hand, he has the valid concern that changing your entire fighting style right before an important event is generally a bad idea, and that should she still manage to win, might fall prey to becoming too dependent upon her support gear/weaponry over her other abilities, making her a worse combatant overall. However, the way he chooses to express this makes him come off as abrasive, condescending, and insulting to Momo, Izuku, and Mei (which isn't helped by Izuku's past history with Aizawa rejecting Izuku's entrance into the Hero Course, meaning Momo has even more reason to dig her heels in), and he underestimates how aware Momo already is about the risk of using her gear as a crutch. After the exam, while he does compliment Izuku and Mei on making fantastic tech, he still expresses worry about her possibly developing bad habits regardless.
** During the post-final exams debrief, Aizawa raises again his belief that Izuku's Quirklessness leaves him too vulnerable to be a hero even in the ''extremely'' unlikely chance that the HPSC would be okay with it, viewing himself as being CruelToBeKind so the kid doesn't get killed pointlessly, since he's seen plenty of people die despite having huge combat advantages that Izuku would sorely be lacking. When Momo labels that as bigotry, he also states that his other major concern was that Izuku was being far too reckless with his life during the Sports Festival, and he can't in good conscience give his support to a student who doesn't value his own well-being. Something that Izuku reluctantly concedes as having been a fair assessment of his behavior during the event after leaving the room. Aizawa also points out how challenging fighting the status quo will be, and while he wishes them luck, idealism can only take them so far and they need to be fully aware just how much they're risking their futures if they choose to continue down this path. * AllForNothing: How the Sports Festival felt to Izuku. While he made it to the third task, his equipment exploded, scarring his arm, and he was still unable to transfer to the Hero Course for being Quirkless. This sent him into a spiral of depression. Aizawa was particularly brutal about this, although Nedzu had [[TheNeedsOfTheMany deeper motives,]] and the rest of the staff were appalled at how Aizawa handled matters.

While lacking Mei's raw innovation, his careful examinations and planning remove most potential flaws and he is considered very impressive by some very sharp people.

She takes offense though at the extent others assume she is dependent upon him, and that his only role in their relationship is to be her babysitter and not a friend.

* DesignItYourselfEquipment: It is not just that Momo is receiving invaluable new support gear to help her serve as a hero, but in the case of the gauntlets she is directly involved in their creation and designing. By taking the time and energy to do so, it means she can create exact copies of them for herself at any time, giving her a huge edge. All of this is in contrast to her peers, who give some specifics of what they need but are not too involved in making them. On a similar note, her classmates (particularly the girls) were just handed their uniforms and expected to make do, while Momo is now working with her friends to create a suit both functional for her Quirk, protective, and not just being basically a sexy swimsuit.
* DesignerBabies: What Mei keeps asserting Momo has to be, as well as her mom, as there is no way someone could actually be born so attractive, intelligent, and (in Momo's case) with such an incredible Quirk without artificial aid.

When he is first introduced to the reader, he is depicted as being deep in a depressive funk after losing his last chance to join the Hero Course. For Momo, she seeks him out because her first impression of him was from the Sports Festival where he fought with ferocity and skill which impressed her, even if she was worried he was like another Bakugo.

* FlexingThoseNonBiceps: [[AvertedTrope Averted]] for Momo, due to the unusual, high-efficiency fat she carries. It coats her muscles so that despite how athletic she is, it never looks like she has any real muscle.

* GadgeteerGenius: The roles Izuku and Mei fulfill here for sure. Best exemplified by the quality of the gauntlets they provide Momo for the final exams, which both Power Loader and Eraserhead consider superb craftmanship.
* GenerationXerox: Momo looks very much like a younger version of her mom. This is actually a cause for concern for her because that means her breasts will continue to grow, [[DCupDistress along with the subsequent back pain her mom suffers]].

In retaliation Ochako rubs dirt into his hair, which her classmates make fun of.
* MundaneSolution: Jirou raises a concern about how loud noises hurt her after Bakugo unintentionally deafens her, so Mei just grabs some specialty earplugs off the counter. While a lot more advanced than our current standards, they are so mundane in that time that Mei thinks nothing of it. During the final exam they do not have a marked impact upon their results, but does make it easier for her.

** When Bakugo Mitsuki learns just what sort of person her son has grown up into, instead of her usually angry and bombastic self, she is constantly crying her eyes out from grief and guilt.

* TheNeedsOfTheMany: An appalled Momo learns this was the deeper motivation behind denying Izuku a transfer to the hero course. The [[ObstructiveBureaucrat HPSC]] would oppose any change to the status quo, and due to previous tensions between them and Nedzu, lead to bureaucratic and legal fighting between them. This is especially concerning, as he sees Japan is on the brink of serious conflicts that could engulf the nation, at the very same time All Might is on the verge of retirement, so the heroes and their allies need to present a solid front. Measured against this, he feels crushing Izuku's dreams to be an acceptable price, especially as someone so brilliant should be able to pick themselves up and find profitable employment, all while unaware of the deep depression Izuku fell into.

* ShoutOut: Izuku's gauntlets, and the ones Momo is to use, are basically ComicBook/IronMan's repulsor boots and gauntlets.
* SkilledButNaive: Momo is this in the beginning, being too trusting of others and the system. Thankfully though, she has her mom, Jirou, and Mei doing what they can to keep an eye out for her, and she is gradually becoming more and more aware of the shades of greys involved in things. However, when confronted with Nedzu's TheNeedsOfTheMany mindset and his reasoning for his actions (albeit withholding information like fears about All For One), she maintains her belief in how a hero should always TakeTheThirdOption to save everyone. Her faith within the hero system is becoming increasingly tarnished however.

** [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructed]] is Bakugo, who already wasn't generally appreciated by his classmates for his horrible personality, which has Momo and Kirishima doing damage control to keep the entirety of 1-B from believing they are the same, and have concerns about how the rest of the school sees them. This only worsens after he publicly attacks Izuku in the cafeteria, with even Kirishima coming to regard Bakugo as nothing more than a bully, and everyone hating that his only visible punishment was getting suspended (unaware of Nedzu's concerns about the League of Villains killing him, or worse, ''recruiting'' him and the subsequent consequences). This becomes a problem during the Final Exams, where the teachers want to test how Bakugo can handle his teamwork... but even before the match begins, his classmates have already concluded that he will not cooperate, and that however is unlucky enough to have him as a partner is probably better off abandoning him while he does a LeeroyJenkins.

He was expecting to fight an insecure teenager who is in danger of becoming too dependent upon a new piece of inferior support gear as a "crutch". Not only does his attempt to destroy the gauntlets with a brick fail to significantly damage them, due to underestimating just how talented Izuku and Mei are, but Momo herself was able force a confrontation, keep up with him in direct combat (albeit with him having weights on), and delivered the decisive blow which knocked him unconscious for an hour, in contrast to all the other teachers who got out of their fights unscatched.

Except by then AFO was there already waiting for All Might having gotten the information he needed, leading to a stand-off until he forces All Might into a deal where they fight away from where they currently are (and the ensuing casualties) in return for the release of Shigaraki (while making sure his student knows the names of All Might's likely successors), and then goes to fight the very climactic battle he wishes to happen.

* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: Bakugo attends UA expecting to be at the top of his class as ever, dominating the rest with his brilliance, unstoppable Quirk, and obvious destiny to be the next #1 Hero. Instead, his entire class outright despises him, or at best hold begrudging respect for him, and certainly do not fear him like his old classmates did. He is not the top of his class, and his team was the only one to get a failing grade in the final exams, largely because of him.

* ForWantOfANail: Izuku being in the Support Course instead of Hero Course has caused a few waves.
** As Izuku was not in Hosu, Stain managed to murder Native and escape.
*** Since he was still free, Stain was able to publish his own version of the events, preventing the League of Villains from capitalizing on the "coordinated" attack. This leads to the League losing out on several people who joined the League in canon because of Stain, recruiting only Muscular, Mustard, and Moonfish.

All of this is in contrast to her peers, who give some specifics of what they need but are not too involved in making them. On a similar note, her classmates (particularly the girls) were just handed their uniforms and expected to make do, while Momo is now working with her friends to create a suit both functional for her Quirk while not being basically just a revealing swimsuit.

* DetrimentalDetermination: During the finals, Bakugo's utter inability to accept he's not the top dog and work together with Camie in the fight with All Might leads to him failing the test, because he's so stubborn he keeps trying to defeat All Might in a straight up fight.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Nezu admits in Chapter 15 that he has failed Izuku, much like all his previous teachers have failed him.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Aizawa considers himself to be this, especially given his emphasis on making sure his students will graduate into a dangerous occupation and ''survive.'' However, he is failing to properly appreciate the growing resentment and frustration his students hold for him and his methods. Also, Momo fears he is [[FantasticAbleism Quirkist]].

* 1-A is a lot less respectful and trusting towards Aizawa as his 'rational deceptions' build up. A key catalyst include that Bakugo deafened Kyouka (see TokenEvilTeammate below) and yet he is still kept around, and Camie learning the truth about summer camp earlier so they were not all surprised. His treatment of Izuku and Mei also means Momo is not blindly following his words, and standing up to him on things.
