** Because Bakugo gets expelled, Shoto has no one to compare himself and consider improvement and is now basically following in his father's footsteps.
** The Cavalry Battle teams are completely different from those formed in canon due to the different friendships and outlooks. Similarly, the tournament has (for the most part) different fights.
** InUniverse: During Tetsutetsu vs. Iida, the latter nearly wins, but when he moves to make the winning kick, his glasses suddenly break due to a hairline fracture growing because of the G-forces he's subjected to, making him miss by a few centimeters.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: [[spoiler:Magne brutally murders Ichigo when she learns how she got Lily killed.]]

* WardrobeMalfunction: During the Ashido vs Kirishima fight, Mina uses her acid on Kirishima, but Kirishima keeps throwing some of the acid back at her, which begins to eat through her clothes. In the end, most of Kirishima's clothes have disappeared, and when Kirishima tries to grab her, he ends up accidentally ripping her underclothes.

* {{Crossover}}: Multiple girls from ''Anime/ZombieLandSaga'' show up in the story. Later on, it's revealed [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion SEELE]], [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil the BSAA and the Umbrella Corporation all exist as well.

** Katsuki walks in on the topless [[SpiderPeople Spider Person]] Konno, who was disassociating to the point that she didn't realize he came in their shared room. To Katsuki's credit, he immediately ran out and refused to go back in until their handler manages to snap her out it.

** While Minoru Mineta was an unlikable pervert in canon, he was mostly just a harmless JokeCharacter. Here [[spoiler:he actually attempts to rape an escort and gets expelled from school and blacklisted from the hero industry altogether for it.]]

** While Shoto Todoroki telling his DarkAndTroubledPast was tragic in-canon, here when he tells Izuku, Tsuyu, and Tokoyami, it comes across as insensitive {{Wangst}} coming from a SpoiledBrat who has never experienced real hardship, especially since he was born with a flashy quirk in a rich family with connections, while they suffered intense societal discrimination for having Mutation-type and "villainous" quirks. The real clincher was when he claims that Lily wouldn't know anything about tragedy and hardship. Even if he didn't know that [[spoiler:she was sold by her abusive stepmother to a bunch of rich pedophiles who raped her to death]], the fact that Izuku had to resurrect her - a ''dead child'' - as part of a highly-publicized criminal case just shows his tunnel vision.

** Kinoko Komori was in the same kindergarten class as Izuku, and they were friendly, until peer pressure led her to stop relating with him. Fortunately, he is willing to forgive her and become friends with her when she apologises for this.

* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: Izuku's first internship offer is to work with the [[TheDreaded Jaegers]]. Unfortunately, everything else in the list would be worse: four of the offers come from the medical industry (where Izuku would likely be experimented on), the other two are from the JSDF and Tartarus (neither of which are known to let the students they pick go), and staying at home would be useless, since all the teachers are going to be working on patrols and Aizawa is explicitly forbidden from picking Izuku for an internship, meaning he would have to intern with Recovery Girl (which would also lead to experimentation ''and'' force him in close contact with Takeo Go).

* BehavioralConditioning: When Bakugo tries attacking Izuku for acing the ball-toss on the first-day exercises, Aizawa could not help but notice that Izuku wouldn't even so much as flinch away from the intended blow, recognizing that Izuku has been conditioned not to fight back against aggression. He would eventually find out that their middle school would let Izuku be bullied since there was "no lasting damage" and would punish Izuku if he defended himself because it would have made Bakugo look bad, making sure that Bakugo's record was as clean as possible to better his chances of becoming a hero.

** Lily is a sweet girl who adores Izuku and likes pretty things... until trouble comes and people are reminded that she is still a zombie that can bite off a person's fingers and wreck any people with Emitter Quirks by [[SuperScream shouting at them]] - a Quirk that she has technically no limit of usage, unlike when she was still alive.
** Toru is a sweet, expressive [[{{Invisibility}} invisible woman]] who, during the USJ Incident, not only choked several villains, but wrecked the arm of one who had taken Ojiro hostage.

* CluelessChickMagnet: Not counting his BattleHarem of zombies, any girl that isn't intimidated by the connotations of Izuku's quirk clearly has a crush on him. Tsu becomes his girlfriend after he saves her life, Ochaco is visibly saddened that she lost her chance with him, and [[spoiler: Jiro admits to finding him attractive when she realized that he saved her life in the past]].

** Ochaco vs Tsuyu. Tsuyu not only has far more practice with her Quirk, since Mutation Quirks are functionally always on, but also far more experience with hand-to-hand combat (because of Quirkism-induced bullying forcing her to defend herself). Though, Ochaco manages to [[CurbStompCushion almost win with her]] DesperationAttack.
* CurbStompCushion: Kyouka gets frozen by Todoroki, but she did manage to blast him with her sound burst and was close to getting into punching distance.

** Eraserhead and Ms. Joke were a couple, until a pair of villains attacked them so brutally that he lost a rib and she lost a child and the ability to get pregnant again. Aizawa stopped his relationship with her out of shame and later went on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge against those villains, with only Interpol's intervention saving him from losing his hero license.
* DarkerAndEdgier: The fic draws heavier emphasis on the kind of harsh realities certain people would have in a world where EveryoneIsASuper, including individual and systematic accounts of racism against people whose Quirks make them look different (Mutation-types) and the kind of powers one would traditionally assume belonged to supervillains. It also includes elements of child-abuse (both by parents and the educational system), neglect, bullying, graphic violence, murder, pedophilia, etc.

** Tae's murder is largely ignored by officials due to her being Quirkless. It takes Izuku demanding it in exchange for aiding on Lily's murder investigation before it is taken seriously.

* DoubleStandard: The spectators at the Sports Festival cheered for Shoto freezing Kyoka in a massive glacier yet are upset with Izuku and Saki for trash talking and punching Shiozaki in the face. Present Mic even suggests Izuku punching Shiozaki is somehow illegal, which Aizawa calls him out on.
* DramaticIrony: Endeavor plots to force Fuyumi to marry Izuku and/or have a child from him... not knowing that Fuyumi already has a boyfriend, is planning to marry him, and is already pregnant.
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: When All Might points out to Endeavor that Shoto nearly killed a classmate because of his lack of restraint, all Endeavor cares about is that it proves Shoto is superior and that anyone that cannot handle it should just quit. Not even All Might warning him that another mishap could see Shoto being expelled from U.A. and sent to a program for Quirks that require special control methods makes him realize how screwed up the situation is.

** Then, when he corners Izuku to demand him to marry Fuyumi, he thinks that Izuku is rejecting the offer because he fears a potential retaliation from the Asuis, not understanding that Izuku is in love with Tsuyu and could not give less of a damn for what Endeavor could offer him.

** Aizawa, [[spoiler: while under the effect of Izuku's Quirk]] is ordered not to do anything that could put him in danger while he recovers from his injuries at the USJ. He decides to gather enough information to [[spoiler: cooperate with the police and allow them to [[PaedoHunt perform a sting operation on the pedophiles that gangraped and murdered Lily, getting them arrested for good once their crimes are made public]] as [[EveryoneHasStandards no lawyers were willing to defend them in court]]. Aizawa had even planned on patrolling with Midnight around the same time to maintain PlausibleDeniability, although he ended up with Ms Joke instead]].
* FantasticRacism:

*** Then, at the Tournament, someone manipulates the drawing to ensure that the "favorites" (presumably Iida, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Shiozaki, all of whom have Emitter or "heroic" Quirks) won't meet until the semifinals, while setting up those with Mutation or Transformation Quirks so they will lose as soon as possible.

** There's also a mention about a religious group threatening to boycott U.A. when Izuku's Quirk is revealed to the public. Nezu sensibly pays little mind to them.

* {{Hypocrite}}: The public at the Sports Festival. For example, at one instance they cheer when Todoroki freezes Jiro even though it clearly nearly killed her, but later those same people boo at Saki trash-talking Ibara and then Izuku punching her.

** Bakugo is the most prominent example. He wholeheartedly believes he will be the next Number One hero, has no problem in attacking anyone that proves to be better than him and nearly murdered Tsuyu and Tenya when he attacked Izuku just because he defeated him in a training battle.

* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: Katsuki bullied and abused Izuku since they were four and their previous school allowed it. When Katsuki goes too far and nearly murders Izuku, with Tenya hurt and Tsuyu mortally wounded in the crossfire, UA throws the book at him. Katsuki is sentenced to a months-long stay in a juvenile mental institution and charged with Assault and three counts of Attempted Murder. While Katsuki manages to avoid expulsion with the skin of his teeth, he is kicked out of the Hero Course and dropped to General Education - and later accepts a deal that gets him expelled from U.A. in exchange of a reduced stay in the institution and being allowed to join another Hero Course.

* LaserGuidedKarma: The CEO of the company that got the contract to make Izuku's Hero costume thought they'd be able to get away with making a suit that didn't even cover half of the specifications and then rake in the money and fame for making something for an U.A. student. When, after the suit gets destroyed, Izuku just takes up Mei's version, said CEO, instead of apologizing and making restitution for the shoddy work, chose to file a lawsuit against Izuku for "breach of contract". Cue U.A.'s lawyers slamming the company with a countersuit that utterly ruins the company.
* LongerThanLifeSentence: Ichigo is sentenced to two-hundred years in prison for all her crimes, [[spoiler:including the sex-trafficking and murder of her step-child Lily.]] [[spoiler:Not that it matters much, since she was quickly murdered by Magne, who was a big fan of Lily and was outraged by what happened to her.]]
* LoopholeAbuse: During the Sports Festival, Izuku is heavily restricted in his zombie usage: they can only help in the third round, and even then, only one at a time and never the same in consecutive rounds. However, Izuku (and later Aizawa) realizes that the [[ExactWords wording]] of the deal could be interpreted as him only being allowed to bring each of the girls ''once'' in total, as the Board likely expects him to attempt to bring one of the girls at least twice, allowing them to nullify Izuku's potential victory on a technicism.

** Angry at being called out for his approach to life, Todoroki shouts at Lily that she does not know anything about suffering... before remembering that Lily is a ten-year-old zombie girl who was repeatedly ''raped'' by a group of pedophiles and finally ''killed'' when one of them went too far, and that she's only alive ([[UndeadChild for a given value of the term]]) thanks to Izuku. The shock of realizing that leaves him unable to answer when Izuku angrily pointing out that he hasn't looked more like Endeavor than now.

** Ochaco uses her Quirk on Izuku so he won't fall face first before the entrance exam.

** While Shinso manages to trick Izuku into falling for his Brainwashing Quirk, it fails for two reasons. First, that Cursed Blood isolates him from the full effects of said Quirk. And second, that Tae is there as well, is quite immune to Brainwashing, and more than capable of keeping him in a NeckLift.

* OnlySaneMan: Inverted with Todoroki's team during the Cavalry Battle, where his obsession with defeating Midoriya is contrasted with Iida, Uraraka and Ojiro, who know that their best chance to win after Dark Shadow covers Midoriya's team is to go after other teams and take their headbands instead.
* OpenMindedParent: While Tsuyu's parents are genuinely nice on their own, the fact that they are first introduced to Izuku after he saved their daughter from a fatal injury gives them little wiggle-room to complain. They also have no problem with the [[BadPowersGoodPeople scarier connotations of his Quirk]], being a family of people with Mutation Quirks who run a law firm that specializes in cases revolving around Quirk-based discrimination.

* PostKissCatatonia: Fumikage after Jiro kisses him on the cheek at the classroom.

* RescueRomance: Tsuyu and Izuku bond as friends easily when they are put in the same team for the Heroes vs Villains exercise. They bond romantically when Izuku saves her life [[spoiler: after Bakugo collapses a building on them.]]

*** Chapter 30 states that Kimihito is an UA graduate with an empathy Quirk, and that he is in a polyamorous relationship with the monster girls and Smith.

** Bakugo. He is incredibly self-centered with a notable LackOfEmpathy. He views it as Izuku's fault that he's in a correctional facility, even though Bakugo blew up the building after the Heroes vs Villains exercise was over - he even [[BelievingTheirOwnLies tells himself]] that Izuku planned out the entire thing (including Iida and Tsuyu's presence) to get him in trouble. {{Justified|Trope}} in that his upbringing - being constantly praised and all his wrongdoings covered-up - had led him to believe himself the most important person ever.

* SuckySchool: Izuku and Bakugo's middle school Aldera Middle School would routinely look the other way of Bakugo's bullying under the assumption that anything bad on his record would hurt his chances of being a hero, thinking that his impressive Quirk was all he needed. They would get away with this by citing that Izuku's HealingFactor meant that there was no "lasting damage" and thus no physical proof of misconduct. It is also likely that they would overlook Izuku's general well-being due to systematic [[FantasticRacism Quirkism]], as Izuku's Quirk is both a Mutation-type (which is a commonly-held target of Quirkism) and that it looks "scary" at face-value (the whole "zombie" thing). By the time Bakugo and Izuku are attending UA, Bakugo has become a monster with [[ItsAllAboutMe delusions of grandeur]] and [[TheSociopath nearly kills three students over a wounded ego]] while [[BehavioralConditioning Izuku has been conditioned not to fight back when Bakugo attacks him]]. When Aizawa looks into the school's history, he finds a laundry list of negative behavior and isolated incidents from the students that have attended it, with a case of one of its students having tried to rape another under the delusion that they could do anything they wanted.

** While Izuku's Quirk at first seems to only work as a mild HealingFactor, preventing him from ever getting sick and instantly healing from minor cuts and bruises, prolonged exposure to larger threats prove that he has one of the strongest regeneration quirks out there. He can survive gunshot wounds to vital organs (including the brain) and shrug them off, repair broken bones and torn muscles, shrug off fourth-degree burns and is even able to regrow limbs in moments. He can also heal lethal wounds on living people and even bring back the dead as {{Revenant Zombie}}s, and is even capable of controlling the will of those exposed to his blood. Add on his prodigal intelligence, if he wasn't [[{{Pun}} dead-set]] on being a hero (with all of the virtues that came with it), Izuku would make a ''terrifying'' BigBad.
*** It becomes ''even more so'' during the Sports Festival, when Izuku goes up against Shiozaki; his Quirk not only starts [[WalkingWasteland withering all of Shiozaki’s vines on contact,]] but he also manages to move so fast that [[SuperSpeed he’s still a blur even in]] ''[[SuperSpeed slow-motion replay.]]''

* TakeAThirdOption: During his time with the Jaegers, Izuku's faced with [[spoiler:a woman begging for a MercyKill after years of being sequestered, tortured and forcefully impregnated by a gang that makes [[FantasticDrug Trigger]], and either he does the killing or a Jaeger does. Izuku chooses to use Cursed Blood to heal the woman and erase her memories]].

* TerrorHero: While Izuku has no interest in using any of his powers for evil or selfish purposes, the terrifying connotations of his abilities have left him little wiggle-room to be anything else, eventually embracing the idea of being a "sinister hero" when Nedzu asks him to help the school serve Class 1-B fresh HumblePie with a USJ-like scenario.

* TooDumbToLive: U.A.'s security advisor accepted a hefty bribe from a "sponsor" in exchange of her meddling with the Sports Festival without even making a background check on the individual - who turns out to be [[spoiler:All For One]].

** Endeavor has little to no sympathy for anyone he or Shoto fight. As far as he is concerned, anyone who does is stupid and deserves everything that happens to them.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: {{Downplayed}} and {{Invoked}}. While Bakugo has no intention of becoming a supervillain and sees himself as the next All Might, his narcissism and temper make him more likely to become an UnscrupulousHero at best, a career delinquent with a [[AGodAmI god-complex]] at worst. With research, Aizawa discovers that Aldera Middle School [[SuspiciouslyCleanCriminalRecord did everything in its power to keep his record clean]] and [[AccompliceByInaction did nothing about his delinquent behavior]] because they thought that it would improve his chances in getting to U.A., thinking his powerful Quirk was enough reason for him to be a Pro Hero. The "good publicity" is immediately subverted after Bakugo tries to blow up Izuku with his gauntlet after he loses the Heroes vs. Villains Exercise, nearly killing Tenya and Tsuyu in the process when the building collapses around them: Bakugo is suspended for a month, sent to a correctional facility for evaluation, moved to General Studies, and put on criminal charges by the Iida and Asui families.

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: When Mitsuki first meets [[SpiderPeople Junko Konno]], instead of being appalled by her appearance or wondering why Katsuki wants to [[spoiler: take her with him once he's out of Seireitei]], her first response is to ask ([[NoIndoorVoice loudly]]) how Katsuki got a girlfriend before going on a tangent about how they need to make the house bigger for all the babies... in Seireitei's mess hall... when it was being used.

* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: After their tournament fight, Mina asks Eijiro if she saw her after her WardrobeMalfunction. He honestly says no... and she gets angry because she ''did'' want him to see her. So she just flashes him.

* BotheringByTheBook: The Board of Representatives try everything they can to handicap Izuku for the Sports Festival out of Quirkism and then ask him personally who he wants to speak for him as First Year Representative there. [[spoiler: [[TheDogBitesBack Feeling vindictive]], he chooses Iida, who proceeds to give a passionate (yet rather boring) speech that lasts for over ten straight minutes.]] [[EveryoneHasStandards Even Tsuyu, who is on Izuku's side in this, thinks it was a little much.]]

* CallBack: During Chapter 1, Izuku saves a girl from being killed by jumping on the would-be killer and taking the hit for her, and the girl ran away in the mean time. [[spoiler:Chapter 16 reveals that it was Jiro, who has been trying to come up with the courage to reveal the truth to Izuku ever since the beginning of the school year - which she does during the Sports Festival.]]

** The racism or discrimination hiearchy in this story is very similar to colourism in Latin America.

* DoubleStandard: The spectators at the Sports Festival cheered for Shoto freezing Kyoka in a massive glacier yet are upset with Izuku and Saki for using trash talk and punching Shiozaki in the face. Present Mic even suggests Izuku punching Shiozaki is somehow illegal, which Aizawa calls him out on.

** QRA agent Nyanta tells Endeavor off for threatening Izuku, and states that if he keeps trying he will get his Hero License revoked ''at best''.

** Not only is Quirklessness despised, but Mutant Quirks are also shunned for not being as powerful as Emitter Quirks. And if your Quirk has "Dark" connotations, you're toast. Tsuyu's parents actually specialize in lawsuits for Quirk discrimination, it gets so bad.

*** Then, at the Tournament, someone manipulates the drawing to ensure that the "favorites" (presumably Iida, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Shiozaki, all of whom have Emitter – except Iida, but his visible mutation is minor, especially for his Quirk's strength and his family has a good status/reputation – or "heroic" Quirks) won't meet until the semifinals, while setting up those with Mutation or Transformation Quirks so they will lose as soon as possible.
** [[spoiler:This works in Izuku's favor once, because the doctor who checked his Quirk and the QRA ignored or downplayed the actual power Izuku's Quirk had due to their racism - meaning that All For One never learned about what Izuku could do until he resurrected Tae, making it impossible to kidnap him due to the many people watching out for him.]]

* HotForTeacher: Ojiro is in love with his master, Lady Wu. And it appears that she may return those feelings in some way.
* HumanResources: [[spoiler:One of the ingredients of Trigger is stem cells extracted from human fetuses.]]

* IRejectYourReality: While canon!Bakugo was a {{narcissist}} and had trouble coping with the real world, [=CursedBlood=]!Bakugo's [[ItsAllAboutMe delusions of grandeur]] goes so far as to paint himself as the next All Might and Izuku as [[TheDreaded the next great and terrible supervillain]] just waiting to show his true colors [[TautologicalTemplar regardless of their mutually-contrary actions]]. This only gets worse after [[spoiler: he witnesses Izuku saving a courtroom judge's life on live television and being called a hero for it]], claiming that since he has no intention of becoming the villain, then Izuku ''has'' to be a villain to validate his worldview and that Izuku will only admit his "true nature" and "be held accountable for the things he's done" if he pushes him into it.

Fortunately, Izuku [[TakingTheBullet protected the judge]] before Tae [[StopHittingYourself ripped Ichigo's arm off and subdued her with it]]]].

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: He's clearly not a villain, but Todoroki's use of an ice dome to ensure his team is the first to reach Midoriya in an attempt to take the ten million-point headband before anyone else instead gives Izuku's team a second layer of defense.

* NotHyperbole: Powerloader once claimed Mei and her partner Kaede are so terrible at remembering names, it was a miracle they knew five names between them. While offended, the girls proved him right after ''three hours'' of trying to name more than five other people.

* ObfuscatingStupidity: [[spoiler:It becomes clear with time that Tae has regained greater control of her facilities than she lets on, even speaking, but she keeps up the charade out of loyalty to Izuku.]]

* OpenMindedParent: While Tsu's parents are genuinely nice on their own, the fact that they are first introduced to Izuku after he saved their daughter from a fatal injury gives them little wiggle-room to complain. They also have no problem with the [[BadPowersGoodPeople scarier connotations of his Quirk]], being a family of people with Mutation Quirks who run a law firm that specializes in cases revolving around Quirk-based discrimination.

** The third omake chapter reveals that some of the women Hitoshi considers his family include, [[Manga/DarkerThanBlack Mina Hazuki]] and [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Harribel]].
*** It also reveals that Mei's lab partner is [[Literature/BofuriIDontWantToGetHurtSoIllMaxOutMyDefense a girl called Kaede who likes programming and [=RPGs=] and who has a Quirk that allows her to turn a flat object into an unbreakable shield]].

** Tensei Iida's fiancée is a girl who presents herself as [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} Weiss Shiroyuki]].
** The [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil5 BSAA]] and the Website/SCPFoundation are two organizations that got started after Quirks began to show up.

* SimpleYetAwesome: During the cavalry battle, Izuku's team just shield themselves with Dark Shadow (using the vibrations from Kyouka's Quirk to allow Dark Shadow to counter the effects of the light) because they're guaranteed first place if they just hold on to Izuku's headband.

** Bakugo. He is incredibly self-centered with a notable LackOfEmpathy. He views it as Izuku's fault that he's in a correctional facility, despite the fact [[spoiler: Bakugo blew up the building after the Heroes vs Villains exercise was over. He even tells himself that Izuku was in the same room as Tsuyu and Iida just to get him in trouble.]] {{Justified|Trope}} in that his upbringing - being constantly praised and all his wrongdoings covered-up - had led him to believe himself the most important person ever.

* TeamSpirit: For the first competition in the Sports Festival, Izuku winds up encouraging his fellow students to pool their resources to get past the Zero-Pointers together. This eventually leads to various other pairings helping each other get through the competition, such as Ochaco and Iida working together to get past the chasm. While the crowd seems to think that this is a sign of weakness and that the competition was meant to be every man for themself, the veteran Pro Heroes could not be more proud. Endeavor in particular finds it frustrating that, on top of having an incredibly useful Quirk, Izuku is also a charismatic leader.

* UngratefulBastard: [[spoiler:Takeo Gou]] cannot be arsed to even try to thank Izuku or apologize for his insults to him after learning what happened to Lily. No, all he does is threaten Izuku and blame him for what happened.

** In the aftermath of the USJ Incident, Nedzu and Aizawa have to deal with reporters attempting to vilify Class 1-A for the high crime of defending themselves from the League of Villains.

* VillainWithGoodPublicity: {{Downplayed}} and {{Invoked}}. While Bakugo has no intention of becoming a supervillain and sees himself as the next All Might, his narcissism and temper make him more likely to become an UnscrupulousHero at best, a career delinquent with a [[AGodAmI god-complex]] at worst. With research, Aizawa discovers that Aldera Middle School [[SuspiciouslyCleanCriminalRecord did everything in its power to keep his record clean]] and [[AccompliceByInaction did nothing about his delinquent behavior]] because they thought that it would better his chances in getting to U.A., thinking his cool Quirk was enough reason for him to be a Pro Hero. The "good publicity" is immediately subverted after Bakugo tries to blow up Izuku with his gauntlet after he loses the Heroes vs. Villains Exercise, nearly killing Tenya and Tsuyu in the process when the building collapses around them: Bakugo is suspended for a month, sent to a correctional facility for evaluation, moved to General Studies, and put on criminal charges by the Iida and Asui families.

** David Shield also wants to study Izuku's Quirk in order to help restore All Might's health [[spoiler:to the point that he might be willing to extract it chirurgically and implant it into All Might]].
* WeWillHavePerfectHealthInTheFuture: Subverted and discussed. Despite it being centuries in the future many modern day illness still plague the world. Part of the reason for this is that even in a world filled with superpowers, there are very few who possess powers that grant them resistance to disease. It doesn’t help that usage of such powers in the medical field was outlawed due to an {{Expy}} of [[Franchise/{{Batman}} Mr. Freeze]] kidnapping and chopping up anyone who had a Quirk even remotely related to healing.
* WhamLine: One for the Class 1B students during their special training.

** The doctor that attends to Tensei after he is attacked by Stain is a frog-faced man nicknamed "[[LightNovel/ACertainMagicalIndex Heaven Canceller]]".

*** It also reveals that Mei's lab partner is [[LightNovel/BofuriIDontWantToGetHurtSoIllMaxOutMyDefense a girl called Kaede who likes programming and [=RPGs=] and who has a Quirk that allows her to turn a flat object into an unbreakable shield]].

* TheyFightCrime: Tae's a Zombie former victim of human trafficking. Izuku's an immortal schoolboy necromancer. Together they learn to become heroes!

* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:Takeo Gou]] wants to learn how to undo Izuku's Quirk so they can [[spoiler:take his daughter Lily back]]. [[spoiler:Recovery Girl]] supports their efforts out of the belief that Izuku's Quirk holds incredible medical potential, and is willing to break the rules in order to research it further.

* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:The Trigger-producing gang members deserve everything the Jaegers throw at them, particularly considering [[BabyFsctory how they]] [[HumanResources produce the drug]]...]]

* HumanResources: [[spoiler:One of the ingredients of Trigger is human fetuses.]]

* BotheringByTheBook: The Board of Representatives try everything they can to handicap Izuku for the Sports Festival out of Quirkism and then ask him personally who he wants to speak for him as First Year Representative there. [[spoiler: [[TheDogBitesBack Feeling vindictive]], he chooses Iida, who proceeds to give a passionate (yet rather boring) speech that lasts for over ten straight minutes.]] [[EverybodyHasStandards Even Tsuyu, who is on Izuku's side in this, thinks it was a little much.]]

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** In the first chapter, Izuku tries to act as a BulletProofHumanShield, only for the bullets to go right through him and into the girl he was protecting.
** Mineta's attempted rape of an escort sees him arrested along with being expelled from U.A. and blacklisted from the hero business entirely.

* NeverMyFault: [[spoiler:After getting sent to a correctional facility, Bakugo refuses to consider he's in there due to his own actions. Instead, he blames Izuku.]]

** In Chapter 23, [[Film/TheAvengers2012 Tae smashes Saki several times against the ground, and calls her "Puny".]]

** Izuku's bullying was ramped UpToEleven just because his Quirk was considered freakish and dark.

*** It becomes ''[[UpToEleven even more so]]'' during the Sports Festival, when Izuku goes up against Shiozaki; his Quirk not only starts [[WalkingWasteland withering all of Shiozaki’s vines on contact,]] but he also manages to move so fast that [[SuperSpeed he’s still a blur even in]] ''[[SuperSpeed slow-motion replay.]]''

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: The story doesn't pull any punches when it comes to realistic consequences.

** During the Entrance Exam, Izuku gets sent flying when he's hit by the Zero Pointer. Ochako successfully stops him by using her Quirk, but the sudden deceleration snaps Izuku's neck. Fortunately, Izuku has a HealingFactor and is fine seconds later, though he does mention how much fixing his neck hurts.
*** Adding to this, Izuku still feels pain: his power is regeneration, not pain nullification. He can just push through because his body is healing itself already.
** The Entrance Exams initially seem to only cater towards highly destructive Quirks, but Izuku discovers that each of the robots has an off switch on their back for those without the raw power to simply destroy them. He still remarks that there should be some fake civilians to simulate Search and Rescue operations for those with little combat ability.
** Aizawa makes clear to Bakugo that regardless of whether Izuku can regenerate, attacking a fellow student or staff member outside of training is grounds for immediate expulsion.
** Izuku's HealingFactor burns a lot of energy so healing too much gives him significant hunger pains, forcing him and Inko to develop a high calorie, high protein candy he can quickly eat to restore his energy.
** Ojiro holds an inherent dislike towards Izuku: while partially Quirkism, it's mostly the presence of Tae and other such zombies. In the real world, a man would be very open-minded if he didn't view Izuku as a literal monster.
** Aldera Middle School being willing to overlook Bakugo's bullying due to his powerful and flashy Quirk isn't an isolated incident. With the rise of Quirks came a new form of discrimination called Quirkism where people are discriminated against for having weak, monstrous, or "dark" Quirks. It's apparently prevalent enough for [[spoiler: Beru Asui's]] law firm to specialize in Quirkism related cases.
** Aldera's habit of ignoring misbehavior from students with powerful Quirks results in some of said students JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope in the belief they can do anything they want. One such student was expelled from Shiketsu and arrested for trying to rape a classmate, and one of Bakugo's old confederates was sent to the same psychiatric facility as he was.
** [[spoiler: After being humiliated by Izuku, Bakugo unleashes his strongest attack against the boy after the exercise was already over. Not only does the attack wreck the building they're in, it injures Iida and Tsuyu as well, the latter being fatally injured. It's only Izuku's Quirk that saves her life. Afterwards, Mitsuki has to beg Nezu not to expel her son and even though he accepts, the boy is still facing criminal charges by Tsuyu's family for Assault and Attempted Murder. Even if Bakugo manages to avoid jail time, he'll still be forced to wear cuffs that prevent him from using his Quirk until he's undergone extensive psychological evaluation.]]
** [[spoiler: Bakugo ends up messing up his probation and ends up in a detention center. His general attitude and mindset are too set in stone from being how his life has always gone for him to change. Or they're too set in stone to change near quickly enough for Bakugo to come off as redeemable to the authorities. The fact said personality involves loads of arrogance and belief he's better than everyone makes it even less likely for Bakugo to change.]]
** Discussed, in a way. [[spoiler: Mitsuki is kept up by nightmares of the consequences of her son's actions. That's just a straight example. The discussed part is their content: Bakugo spending his life in prison, her husband losing his job in the scandal, and the family being saddled with crippling debt due to lawsuits. All are entirely possible, especially in Japan's culture.]]
** The attack on the USJ and their need to defend themselves against villains that would have killed them leaves several students traumatized and requiring counseling.
** Heroes ''are'' vulnerable to burn-outs. When Aizawa starts showing indications he's about to snap and cross the line from Hero to Vigilante, Midnight sends him Ms Joke to talk and unwind a bit.
** Endeavor's plans for Izuku are partially this. Regardless of how it looks or PR damage, the ability to regenerate any wound including gunshots to the head with no repercussions is [[SuperpowerLottery damn useful]]. As such, [[DarwinistDesire Endeavor]] wants that quirk in his family.
** The [[spoiler: fake villain attack on 1-B invokes this.]]
*** [[spoiler: First of all, the exercise show 1-B how they are ''not'' actually ready for a real villain attack. Class 1-A only survived the USJ incident because the villains were mostly cannon fodder, with the most dangerous ones occupied with a near-immortal student. A real villain attack by competent villains is a horrifying thing that can easily result in deaths. Next, a villain attack is not a publicity shoot: the USJ wasn't a publicity stunt, but an actual attack where 1-A students feared for their lives. When 1-B is put into a supposed villain attack, they panic, make mistakes, don't think things through, etc. By the end of it, the entirety of 1-B is humiliated and humbled by realizing they've been begging for something terrible that they can't handle.]]
*** [[spoiler: Shiozaki tries to be a pacifist rescue hero. Her idea that she could go her entire career without fighting a villain is naïve and her lack of experience fighting with it result in her accidentally 'killing' the villain due to underestimating its power. She's also horrified to think she's killed, even in self-defense.]]
*** [[spoiler: Tetsutetsu's gung-ho approach can make him a liability for ''everyone else'', since they don't have his SuperToughness.]]
*** [[spoiler: There is no plot armor. 1-B students are taken out with little warning or fanfare, just like in a real attack where your opponent had a chance to prep but you didn't.]]
** Religion is pretty nonexistent after the rise of Quirks. Superpowers, especially the very odd and varied quirks, are just impossible to reconcile with most religions' beliefs.

** Even after being warned that hurting other competitors would entail punishment, Todoroki still attacked other students. This causes him to lose several points from the Obstacle Race.
** He may be the team leader, but when Todoroki tries to force the rest of his team to try to attack Izuku's team even though it's obvious there's nothing to gain from it, the rest of the team mutinies and forces him to go for the BoringButPractical target of going after other teams' headbands.

* UngratefulBastard: [[spoiler:Takeo Gou]] cannot be arsed to even try to thank Izuku or apologize for his insults to him after learning what happened to Lily. No, all he does is threaten Izuku.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: When Mina gets her arm dislocated by Tetsutetsu's tackle, she resets it herself. In most shonen, this would be a badass moment where the fight turns around and she [[JapaneseSpirit powers through]] to continue fighting. Here, she can only cry out in pain and faints after a few seconds.

** The [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil5 BSAA]] and the WebOriginal/SCPFoundation are two organizations that got started after Quirks began to show up.
