Nevertheless, he retains all his skills and physical strength, and delivers CurbStompBattle after CurbStompBattle to anyone foolish enough to underestimate him. [[spoiler:Best showcased in his fight with Erza, where he manages to match the S-Class Wizard blow for blow even as she decides to go all out, the two destroying the landscape around them.]]

* DeadpanSnarker: As per usual, Ragna, which is mainly how he handles the sheer insanity that is Fairy Tail.

** PlayedForLaughs, but Ragna admits that he finds Mirajane and her ability to read people much scarier than Erza, something that Gray relays to the girl in question, to her chagrin.

* LesserOfTwoEvils: [[PlayedForLaughs A comical variation]]. Ragna accepts Natsu and the others calling him 'dad' since he finds it more bearable than 'old man'.

** Since he defeated the Vanisher Brothers before they could use their {{attack reflect|or}}ing frying pan, Ragna fails to learn of it's abilities and primarily uses it as ''an actual frying pan'' for the most part.

* NotSoAboveItAll: Erza generally presents herself as one of the saner members of the guild, and most frequently tasked with maintaining order, but there are several moments where she displays the same level of [[BunnyEarsLawyer eccentric behavior as her guildmates]].

* RunningGag: People mistaking Ragna for an old man, to his increasing ire.
* ShipperOnDeck: Seeing the obvious attraction Juvia has for Gray, Ragna makes sure the two have time alone together on their joint job, and mentally wishes her luck when Gray asks [[ObliviousToLove if he thinks she might have a crush on him]].

* SincerityMode: After hearing about the above RageBreakingPoint moment, Mirajane sincerely praises Ragna for his restraint upon hearing he only destroyed ''half'' the mansion. By [[DestructiveSavior Fairy Tail standards]], that is considered rather restrained in her opinion.

* TeamDad: Ragna serves as this to the strongest team, Lucy especially, to the point where Natsu and the others semi-jokingly call him 'dad'.

** In his home series, Ragna was ([[CharacterDevelopment initially]]) one of the more hot headed characters who tended to favor [[LeeroyJenkins the direct approach]] in a setting full of {{Chessmaster}}s, something that frequently landed him in hot water. By the time he arrives in Fiore, he's [[OlderAndWiser overcome the worst of his flaws]], learned the value of planning ahead and generally acts as [[OnlySaneMan the most level-headed member of Fairy Tail]], taking time to think things through whenever possible and actively tries to avoid mimicking [[DestructiveSavior the destructive tendencies of his guildmates]].

* NotHelpingYourCase: Lucy notes that despite Ragna's annoyance at them calling him 'dad', a fair amount of his actions involve looking out for them, scolding them when they act out and generally playing the part of one.

** Later on, as Ragna decides to indulge in these same tendencies when a client tried to screw him out of his payment, despite being elsewhere, she admits to feeling a sense of pride without knowing why, implying she would approve of such an action.

* ParentalSubstitute: While calling him 'dad' started as a joke, by the later chapters it's made clear that Lucy has genuinely come to see Ragna as a father figure, with him reciprocating the sentiment by internally calling her his surrogate daughter, and continues calling him such [[spoiler:even after his eye and arm are restored]].

* SmarterThanYouLook: Natsu displays plenty of clever tricks in his sparring match with Ragna despite agreeing to keep it at "street level", and catches the reaper off guard several times. He also manages to come up with a move to take down a security golem with next to no collateral damage less than a minute after Ragna challenged him to do so, displaying impressive creativity and an impressive use of basic physics.

* ImplausibleDeniability: Lucy insists to Ragna that she reads the Sorcerer Weekly for the articles, and takes offense when he calls it a pinup magazine. In response, he dryly points out she has all the pages with centerfolds bookmarked, to her embaressment.

* ObliviousToLove: Juvia is just as smitten with Gray upon meeting with him as she was in canon, to the point where Ragna considered it blatantly obvious. As the two head back to the guild, Gray asks Ragna if there was a a possibility that she might be interested in him.

* RageBreakingPoint: Episode 8 has Ragna slowly reach his. Throughout the morning, people repeatedly mistake him for an old man, grating on his nerves. Then he takes a job to clear out two direwolves from a noblewoman's property. only to find out that they are actually elemental wolves, and there are ''five'' of them (each with a different element) who have excellent teamwork. After a tough fight he returns to the mansion of the client, where he has to strongarm his way into meeting her. She then proceeds to insult him, his guild, on top of refusing to pay him when he asks for compensation for the faulty information on the job. He then proceeds to flash his Fairy Tail guild emblem and wreck half the mansion before leaving.

** While not happy about it, Makarov elects not to punish Ragna for [[spoiler:killing the Blade of Gilgamesh]], noting that he did so to save Lucy and Levy, and opted to come forth about it immediately rather than try to keep it hidden.

** During his mission with Ragna, Natsu manages to give some insightful perspective on both Ragna' actions defending Lucy and Levy, and accurately notes the rest of the guild won't hold him [[spoiler:killing someone]] to protect his guildmates against him, at least not for long.

* {{Irony}}: Ragna notes that the job request from the Magic Council is suspiciously convenient for him, with his guildmates telling him he's being overly paranoid. [[GilliganCut A few scenes later]] has Siegrain confirm to Ultear that he gave him the request in hopes of learning more about the potential SpannerInTheWorks, before commenting he'd have to be incredibly paranoid to suspect anything.

** While not happy about it, Makarov does not elect to punish Ragna for [[spoiler:killing the Blade of Gilgamesh]], noting that he did so to save Lucy and Levy, and opted to come forth about it immediately rather than try to keep it hidden.

* ShipTease: Between Ragna and Mirajane, who work together on preparing food and drinks, and the latter goes out of her way to help the former with several of his problems. The two [[spoiler:even go on a job as a date after his eye and arm are destroyed]].

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Ragna and Gray meet Juvia on a job well before the Phantom Lord arc.
* BaitAndSwitch: After Ragna [[spoiler:killed the Blade of Gilgamesh]] to save Lucy and Levy, it looks like the guild is giving him the cold shoulder because of it. Natsu and Happy then reveal it's ''actually'' because his 'sweetheart' comment to Mirajane was taken as him flirting with her. Ragna's not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed.

* CurbStompBattle: Ragna dishes these out like candy for most of his early fights, including the Vanish Brothers and Gilgamesh XIV.
* TheDreaded: Erza to the rest of the guild. When Ragna starts using [[HyperspaceArsenal Requip magic]] everyone instinctively flinches.
* ExactWords: PlayedForLaughs. When Ragna agrees to a spar with Natsu during their job, he says to keep it street level, with Happy as the referee. After Ragna protests when the Dragon Slayer unleashes a ''massive'' wave of flame, Happy says that it would just destroy a street, so it's valid.
