Aside from third-party titles, Nintendo hasn't given the Wii any new games since 2012, with the last game being ''Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition''. At best, you will be politely corrected. Similarly, never assume Nintendo stopped making games altogether after you've stopped playing them.

** No, the UsefulNotes/WiiU was NOT a [[CowboyBebopAtHisComputer "new controller for the Wii"]], it was the Wii's successor (albeit backwards-compatible). ** During the heyday of the first-person ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime'' games in the 2000s, there were (and probably still are) a group of uneducated people who believed ''Metroid'' rips off ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'', oblivious that the former [[OlderThanTheyThink began in 1986]] with ''VideoGame/Metroid1'' on the [[UsefulNotes/NintendoEntertainmentSystem NES]], or that ''Metroid Prime'' is still an ActionAdventure Game, albeit with [[FirstPersonShooter FPS]] elements present. George Fan, the original lead developer of the game, was not fired by Creator/PopCapGames for being against adding micro-transactions to ''VideoGame/PlantsVsZombies2'', rather he had little interest in making a sequel and was laid off, not fired.
** Saying that the single-player campaign in ''VideoGame/PlantsVsZombies2'' is pay-2-win is great for showing how little you know about the game. Every level is fully beatable without using a single power-up, premium plant or level-up. The level-up mechanic was added months after the campaign's final world was finished, and the campaign levels were created without the mechanic in mind.

* Many of Russian gamers are tired of people crediting Creator/IcePickLodge as the only Russian studio to create [[ArtGame artistic]] and ingenious games. Before Ice-Pick Lodge Russia had K-D LAB, the creators of ''VideoGame/{{Vangers}}'' and ''VideoGame/{{Perimeter}}''.

** The cleric's name is Oph'''i'''lia, not Oph'''e'''lia. Ophelia is a character from Jacopo Sannazaro's poem ''Arcadia'' published in 1504, as well as a character from [[Creator/WilliamShakespeare Shakespeare]]'s ''Theatre/{{Hamlet}}'' published in 1603 (and the [[UsefulNotes/MoonsOfUranus moon of Uranus]] named after her). It doesn't help that the name "Ophilia" is a homophone i.e. pronounced the same as "Ophelia".

** Calling Roy "red Marth", Ike "buff Marth", or Lucina "girl Marth"[[note]]This one is more forgivable, given that [[LegacyCharacter Lucina takes up Marth's name as an alias]] in the first half of her game[[/note]] will naturally anger fans of the series, due to the differences each character displays in their original games.

** ''VideoGame/MarioKartDoubleDash'' is the only game where Daisy's infamous line "Hi, I'm Daisy!" appears[[note]]Said when you switch drivers or when she wins a race, which can potentially become repetitive fast[[/note]], so treating the line like it is her {{Catchphrase}} used in every single game she appears in will get you called out.

Despite the divisiveness of ''VideoGame/DMCDevilMayCry'' and how loathed ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry2'' is, saying that Dante himself is an edgy character is a surefire way to piss off any ''Devil May Cry'' fans, as ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry1'' had him as a confident devil-may-care DemonHunter, while every game from ''[[VideoGame/DevilMayCry3DantesAwakening 3]]'' upped his cockiness and wisecracking with each passing installment, to the point where his original portrayal comes off as EarlyInstallmentWeirdness.

** Don't say that the ''VideoGame/MegaManLegends'' games are separate from the main timeline of the franchise, as a WordOfGod source confirmed their basic placement in the timeline (currently at the very end of the Classic timeline, thousands of years after ''[[VideoGame/MegaManZX ZX]]''). Conversely, don't say that the ''VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork'' and ''VideoGame/MegaManStarForce'' series ''are'' part of the main timeline. Officially, they're in an AlternateUniverse where [[ForWantOfANail online technology flourished over robotics]].

* Unironically saying video games are [[AnimationAgeGhetto just for children or to assume a work is intended for children just because it's a game]] is a huge no-no. * ''VideoGame/HonkaiImpact3rd'': Do not say that the game is the third in its series or ask where ''Honkai Impact 1st'' and ''Honkai Impact 2nd'' are. It's the only game in its "series" and the "3rd" in the title is for a different reason.

** Don't even think about calling the ''Mists of Pandaria'' expansion a rip-off of ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda''. Pandaren were first introduced in ''Warcraft III'', six years before the movie was released.

* Don't say that the ''VideoGame/LikeADragon'' series is just the Japanese ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto''. Not only do they play barely anything alike, but the creator of ''Yakuza'' actually hates ''GTA''. It's also not received well if you call it a clone of ''VideoGame/SleepingDogs'', especially considering ''Yakuza'' was already on [[VideoGame/Yakuza5 its fifth installment]] by the time that came out.

* For Creator/{{Sega}} in general, absolutely ''do not'' insist to certain Sega fans that ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'', and to a lesser extent ''VideoGame/{{Yakuza}}'', [[AdoredByTheNetwork are the only franchises that Sega releases games of anymore]], particularly around fans of series and [=IPs=] that haven't had a new game in years, but also aren't aware of the other franchises that Sega ''is'' still making games for (such as ''VideoGame/{{maimai}}'' and ''Chunithm''). It doesn't help that some of these series [[NoExportForYou don't get released outside of Japan]], or at least for the case of ''VideoGame/Yakuza5'', most of ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo'', and [[TroubledProduction most infamously]] ''VideoGame/PhantasyStarOnline2'', take a long time to do so. This is despite several other franchises that Sega has released before and during TheNewTens, such as ''VideoGame/{{Bayonetta}}'', ''VideoGame/{{Vanquish}}'', ''VideoGame/ResonanceOfFate'', and ''VideoGame/ValkyriaChronicles'', as well as Sega's acquisition of Creator/{{Atlus}}, leading to their BreakthroughHit of ''VideoGame/Persona5''. This has picked up even more as older Sega franchises started to gain new releases in TheNewTens and TheNewTwenties, such as ''VideoGame/StreetsOfRage 4'', ''VideoGame/AlexKidd in Miracle World [[EnhancedRemake DX]]'', and ''VideoGame/PanzerDragoon: [[VideoGameRemake Remake]]''. So with all of this in mind, it's not a good idea to claim that Sega is still nowadays "[[NeverLiveItDown that one company that only makes bad Sonic games and nothing else]]" if you don't want to be deemed an ignorant hater of the company, let alone a Sonic fan themselves that ignores looking at anything else from Sega.

* Don't say that the ''VideoGame/{{Yakuza}}'' series is just the Japanese ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto''. ** Some fans don't take kindly to the names of Mega Man and the other Robot Masters -- or the titles of the games themselves, for that matter -- [[SpellMyNameWithAnS being spelled as one word]] unless you're talking about [[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork their NetNavi counterparts]] (i.e. [=MegaMan.EXE=], [=ProtoMan.EXE=], etc.), a fan work that deliberately uses an alternative spelling (ex. [=ProtoMan=] in ''Fanfic/MegaManDefenderOfTheHumanRace''), or something similarly ''Mega Man''-themed like Music/TheProtomen. (This can also apply to the likes of [[VideoGame/MegaManLegends MegaMan Volnutt/Trigger and MegaMan Juno]].) Others are more lenient, as it's a harmless misconception encouraged by the title font used in multiple installments and, sometimes, the in-game text.

* It's ''VideoGame/SamuraiShodown'', not "[[SpellMyNameWithAnS Samurai Showdown]]."

It is a stylistic choice and turn-based fans are very vocal about their support of such battle systems.

** Do not call Peach a useless DamselInDistress around her fans or they'll remind you of all the instances where she TookALevelInBadass.[[labelnote:List]]''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros2'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'', ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'', ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'', ''VideoGame/SuperMario3DWorld'', ''VideoGame/SuperPrincessPeach'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosWonder'' and ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosMovie''[[/labelnote]]
