* AntiMagic: Twilight Sparkle discovers a substance at the human's crash site that is impossible to manipulate via magic, dubbing it "Inmanipulon." It is later revealed to be the power behind [[spoiler: the effects of Poison Joke, and prolonged exposure can cause immortality and immunity to magic.]]

* AuthorAvatar: The protagonist.
* BreatherEpisode: After escaping [[spoiler:Nightmare Sol]], not only does the main character get some good sleep for the first time in a while, but the action and drama also take a back seat and let comedy take the reins for a bit.
* BurningWithAnger: This happens to the protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]] in chapter 10 [[spoiler: after he gets into an argument with Luna, and is physically threatened by [[TheLancer Storm Wing]] while he's emotionally stressed]].
* CameFromTheSky: The protagonist. Who else?

* CoolDownHug: Luna gives one to the protagonist after [[spoiler: Celestia's transformation into Nightmare Sol and the events following that]] finally start getting to him.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: The protagonist, though not really a moron, does act rather [[CloudCuckooLander goofy]] at times, which usually annoys the ponies around him. However, don't mess with him or his friends. [[spoiler: Shadow Shot learns this the hard way.]]

* DeadpanSnarker: The protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]], Luna, and Storm Wing (y'know, screw him for that) are all [[UpToEleven big on the snark department]]. [[HilarityEnsues Hilarity tends to ensue]] [[SnarkToSnarkCombat whenever there's dialogue between them]].

* DontYouDarePityMe: In chapter 10, Luna refuses [[spoiler: Firewall's]] empathy after [[spoiler: she learns of Celestia's DarkSecret]].
** The protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]] is driven to this after [[spoiler: he gets into a big fight with Luna, which leaves him distraught.]]
* DoubleTake: Day one is chock full of 'em, as well as [[FacePalm Facehooves]]
* FisherKingdom: The protagonist, a human from Earth, wakes to find himself as a unicorn pony in Equestria.

* FourthWallBreaking: The protagonist will frequently make an AsideComment directly to the reader, acknowledging their existence; this usually occurs for the purpose of Lampshading.
* FireIceLightning: Our protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]], the pyromancer, Ice Pony, and Storm Wing, lightning slinging [[DisabilitySuperpower blind]] Pegasus (screw him for that too).

* HammerSpace: One of the first things the protagonist does is pull a cigarette from here. After a quick {{doubletake}} he quickly accepts it as a utility.
* HandicappedBadass: Storm Wing is a personification of this trope (screw him in his badassery).

** The Protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]] experiences this in at least one encounter with TheBigBad.

* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: Cookie, the head chef for the castle, whom the Protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]] calls the attention of by shouting "Cookie" as the typical nickname that would go along with such a professsion, before asking what his name was...[[{{Namedar}} only for the chef to reply that that really *was* his name]].
* IngestingKnowledge: One of Luna's spells--[[spoiler: which she soon passes on to the protagonist/Firewall]]--allows her to burn books and other reading materials, instantly transferring the information on said book to her. [[spoiler: She eventually [[UpToEleven pushes this spell to a new level by burning Firewall's phone, which happens to be connected to the Internet]]. By doing this she gains near omniscience of Earth's history and knowledge ([[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking It also makes her quite]] [[GenreSavvy savvy]]).]]
* LampshadeHanging: The protagonist will frequently point out some inexplicable phenomena, such as being able to manipulate objects with surprising dexterity despite only having fingerless hooves, or being able to store things in a nonexistent pocket. Generally accompanied by the assumed explanation that "it's magic and/or it's a cartoon, just roll with it".
* LukeIAmYourFather: The main character learns that [[spoiler: Azure Flora, TheDragon to the Nightmare]], is Storm Wing's mother. She doesn't know he's her son yet, though.

* MundaneUtility: The protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]] uses his fire powers to [[FingerSnapLighter light his]] [[SmokingIsCool cigarettes]].
* NotSoStoic: The Protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]], who usually hides most of his more depressing thoughts through his eccentricity and general wackiness, breaks down after the Nightmare [[spoiler: takes control of Celestia]], only to be comforted by Luna.
* OriginalCharacter: The protagonist (of course), as well as at least half of the relevant characters in the story.

* RedOniBlueOni: Like Stoic and Lafter battle for dominance within the main character's head, the main character's fiery exuberance is balanced by Storm Wing's calculating stoicism.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Played straight with both Celestia and Luna, [[UpToEleven especially in the case of the latter]], who becomes the [[PalsWithJesus best friend]] of the protagonist/[[spoiler: Firewall]], and eventually [[spoiler: his pseudo-romantic interest]].

* RunningGag: About anytime Stormwing (screw him) is mentioned The protagonist likes to add on a 'screw him' after his name.
** The Protagonist[[spoiler:/Firewall]] is very jealous of pegasi simply because they can use their wings to shrug. He comments nearly every time.
* SelfInsertFic: While the protagonist indeed began as an AuthorAvatar, the author himself acknowledges that it has grown to the point of being an OriginalCharacter.

* ShutUpHannibal: The protagonist delivers these to the Nightmare on a regular basis.

* TheShadowKnows: When Celestia discovers that the protagonist is a human, she creates a light that causes him to cast a human shadow.
