** When Tenzin's entire family is introduce we get a good description of each of their personalities by seeing them in action. Ikki was introduced as asking "AreWeThereYet" ad nauseum, while her little brother Meelo chews his father's head. Jinora meanwhile politely talks to her grandmother about a book she was reading and wants to ask about the story of Zuko's mother. Meanwhile we can tell that Tenzin is a loving man, but he is a lot more reserved and composed than Aang was (though not beyond his own form of humor) while Pema is nice and plucky, if a bit frazzled over the antics of raising several bending children.

** Comicbook/BlackWidow briefly appears in the episode "Breakout", the first to air on Creator/DisneyXD. Her appearance can be summed up as "[[MaleGaze buttshot]], [[MyEyesAreUpHere full-length bodyshot]], [[MaleGaze walking away buttshot]], exit".
** Similarly, Comicbook/IronMan first appears in "Breakout" (following some scenes in promotional shorts and a compilation of those shorts) as he effortlessly breaks up a weapons sale, tells off Doctor Doom's representative, blows off ComicBook/NickFury and SHIELD, and dismisses a request that soon comes back to massively bite him (and everyone else) in the ass. If you ''do'' count the shorts and their compilations, Iron Man's establishing moments come when he fights a giant robot and shrugs off advice that he'd be better off making weapons than fighting evil directly and alone.

** Peridot gets two. The first, when he first meet her, shows her being clinical, much more serious and by the book than the Crystal Gems, and breaking one of her robots in disgust for being damaged. This applies to her only for a while, but applies to Homeworld in general quite nicely as the first Homeworld Gem met (Lapis was a citizen). When we get to see the real Peridot, who is separate from Homeworld, we get a new look at her: she's [[TheNapoleon a short]], [[CowardlyLion easily spooked but still determined]] [[InsufferableGenius with an ego much bigger than her body]] who is none the less [[TheWorldIsJustAwesome legitimately curious about things around her]]. This is the basis of Peridot for the rest of the series.
** Speaking of Lapis, you get a pretty solid view of who she is in her two part debut. The first thing we see her do is thank Steven for letting her out, and the second thing is show vehement distrust of the Crystal Gems, which she demonstrates with near godly water manipulation. The second part has her build a giant water tower from the ocean itself to try and reach home. From this you get most of what makes Lapis tick: she's traumatized but a good person to those she doesn't associate with her trauma. She's incredibly powerful, but she's also helpless despite all that power and more than a little lost.
** We first meet Yellow Diamond, and thus a Diamond in general, and get a base of what to expect from them: Yellow Diamond is big, she's the leader that gems obey, she doesn't have a close relationship with the gems she commands, and she wants to destroy the Earth vindictively. Much of the show afterwards explores ''why'' Yellow and later Blue Diamond hate the Earth so much and their own dynamics from this first meeting.

He's also shown to be a bit of a CowardlyLion (no pun intended) as well, as there are several times when he suggests retreating or backing down when the other Paladins feel they have no choice but to go forward or make a stand.
*** Lastly, Keith is indirectly alluded to at the start as having a discipline problem that caused him to wash out of the Galaxy Garrison, but is properly introduced when he causes a explosion to draw away everyone from Shiro's crash site before rushing in to rescue him. Later on, when the future paladins are escaping from the Galaxy Garrison, he shows traits of being a DeadpanSnarker towards Lance, Pidge, and Hunk (who he was not expecting to interfere) by remarking that they could dispose of "unnecessary weight" (pertaining to them).

This establishes her to be rather forceful and decisive despite being a princess and TheHeart, a character that is reinforced when the flashbacks show her begging her father to assemble Voltron and fight the Galra when he wants to send them away into hiding.

*** Pidge is shown to be very secretive about his past and gets very defensive over any mention of the Kerberos Mission. This serves to set up the bulk of his character arc for the series, as he [[spoiler:[[GenderFlip or rather]], [[SweetPollyOliver she]], is dedicated to finding what happened to her brother and father who got lost on the Kerberos Mission]].
*** Hunk is shown to have relatively poor hygiene and clumsy due to his rotund figure, but is noted as being quite smart by Lance.
** The first episode of Season 3, "Changing of the Guard" is one for Prince Lotor.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Arcane}}'': The show and Vi's first scene as a child showcase many of the character traits that define her. She's trying to protect her youngest sister Powder by having her sing a song while covering her eyes but Powder still ends up seeing the corpses of their parents showing that despite her best intentions, she can accidentally scar Powder psychologically. Vi visibly tries to hold it together yet can't help but break down crying, foreshadowing that despite her tough personality, she's still just as emotionally vulnerable as anyone to trauma. Finally, when she's being carried away by Vander, she curls her fist while glaring pure hate at the [[RabidCop Enforcers]], revealing the desire to solve problems with violence that she'll carry for the rest of her life.

* ''WesternAnimation/OverTheGardenWall'' opens with Greg, in the middle of a dark forest, cheerfully listing apparently random words. It turns out that he's listing possible names for his frog, establishing his status as a {{Cloudcuckoolander}} as well as [[ThePollyanna how unaffected he is by the scariness of his surroundings.]] Wirt then stops him, realizing that they have no idea where they are, and panics, establishing his role as the constantly-worried one who lets negativity overtake him too easily.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheDreamstone'' opens with our antagonist, Zordrak, chewing out his minion Captain Crigg for screwing up one too many times before dropping him into a pit filled with ravenous Frazznats and promoting Sargent Blob as the new commander for his plan to steal the Dreamstone. This highlights that he is a BadBoss who clearly doesn’t care about the lives of his Urpney minions.

*** The first quarter establishes Fry's personality and status in society quite well; a kid mocks him for losing a video game, his girlfriend dumps his stuff out on the sidewalk([[IdiotHero and he still doesn't realize that he's been dumped]]), and to top it all off he realizes that he's been prank-called. When he's finally unfrozen in the future, his first reaction to his predicament is to cheer.

Not really much of a spoiler, especially since this happens on the first episode and there's unmarked content all the way up to the last season's main villain.

** [[IronLady Chief Lin Bei Fong]]. She's introduced by grilling [[spoiler:Korra]] in the interrogation room. [[SympatheticInspectorAntagonist She's dead serious, pissed off, and 100% focused on her job.]] Even though the one in custody is none other than [[spoiler:The Avatar]]. We've got a hardass over here, folks.
