* ''WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends'':
** For secondary characters, [[http://thesifblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/duck-poll-results.html Duck wins by a landslide]], followed by Oliver, the Scottish twins, and Bill and Ben.
** Salty and Cranky of Brendam Docks locale were among the first key supporting characters [[CanonForeigner created specifically for the show]]. They became popular enough to stick around throughout the entire series, in spite of several attempts at cast streamlining demoting even key ''Railway Series'' characters.
** Paxton, a non-speaking background character introduced in 2011's ''Day of the Diesels'', was given a much larger starring role in ''Blue Mountain Mystery'' which solidified his odd but well-meaning personality. Fans liked the character so much that he's since received several starring roles in Series 17 and 18.
** Plenty of fans were excited to know that the Flying Scotsman would make his first proper appearance in ''The Great Race'', and hope he will appear again after that.
** For a literal (''[[MaybeMagicMaybeMundane probably]]'') non-sentient ''slab of rock'', the [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ttte/images/2/21/Boulder.png/revision/latest?cb=20171004105020 Boulder]] from "Rusty and the Boulder" is considered very memorable by the fans, in part because of how [[SurrealHorror bizarrely frightening]] its episode is.
** Derek has a good number of fans due to being an accurate portrayal of his basis.
** Molly is one of the better-loved characters during the [=HiT=] Entertainment era due to her ShrinkingViolet personality, which makes her stand out in a crowd of what were otherwise generic NiceGuy newcomers (aside from the occasional HateSink like Dennis or Billy). Her popularity might have been why she made more speaking appearances then most of the 9-12 characters, who usually only appeared once with a few cameos later on. To say nothing of how she was a common request for a returnee during the Brenner era - though that unfortunately never came to pass.
** Despite only appearing in one episode, Smudger has become popular thanks in no part to his use in [=YouTube=] Poops, his very memetic laugh, and his [[AndIMustScream surprisingly horrific fate]].
** Granted he was only created for the Wooden Railway line, but Logan became a popular character in many web series and fanfics that often depict him staying on Sodor and becoming friends with Hector, who works with him at the Crosby Coaling Plant.
** Hiro doesn't appear often in the show itself, but is popular with fans for his backstory and pacifist badassery. He's especially huge in Japan, where he is merchandised and promoted as much as Thomas himself.
** Despite his extremely limited screentime in "Big World! Big Adventures!" and lack of appearances in the show proper, Beau tends to get love as a CoolOldGuy. He was the first character from the "Big World! Big Adventures!" era of the show to get a Bachmann model, beating both Nia and Rebecca to the slot.

** Red X appeared in ''two'' episodes where he wasn't just Robin's disguise but has a big fan following, largely for being a mysterious, badass ChaoticNeutral AntiVillain.
** Argent. Despite only appearing for a short amount in two episodes, and subsequently being a very little developed character, there's a large amount of fanart for her, and several fanart groups on Website/DeviantArt.
** Kid Flash only appeared in two episodes, but he's ''very'' well-liked for being a suave, witty gentleman. Probably helps that he and Jinx became an OfficialCouple.
** Mumbo was said to be a one-off character created for the show, but a positive fan reaction influenced another appearance. Being voiced by Tom Kenny probably helped.
** Despite being an original character for the show and having no lines, Kyd Wykkyd has amassed a group of fans for his stoic and mysterious demeanor. It's to the point where he's only surpassed by Jinx as the most popular H.I.V.E. member.

*** Starting out as divided when people found out about the character [[spoiler:Slash]] is now very well liked due to being portrayed as a cunning, genuine threat who provides interesting tension with [[spoiler:Raphael]].
*** Ice Cream Kitty seems to have developed a following, most likely thanks to the mutant kitty being genuinely adorable, especially whenever Mikey's interacting with her.

** Taskmaster and Beetle, being both portrayed as badass, menacing and truly competent, got quite good reception amongst the fans;
** And so far, episodes involving other key heroes such as ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk, Comicbook/TheMightyThor or ComicBook/IronMan got good reaction as well due to being faithful to their most well-known incarnation, especially Iron Man.
** Even those who dislike the show tend to admit the janitor played by Creator/StanLee is an enjoyable part in the show.
** Voice acting wise, Creator/RogerCraigSmith as Comicbook/CaptainAmerica.
** Deadpool was a welcome character. Since fourth wall-breaking and shameless comedy have been major parts of his story and character for years, he was received very well. It helps that the episode was written by [[MyRealDaddy Joe freaking Kelly]]. One common praise was the simple fact that he could ''actually pull off'' the style of humor present in this show, which many fans hate, feeling that it's out-of-place coming from ''Spider-Man''.
** Carnage appeared for only one episode and for a very small time, yet many fans seem to have liked him, and complained he [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter could have used more screen time]].
** Squirrel Girl as usual.
** Doctor Doom has gained strong for being [[TheChessmaster Doctor]] ''[[MagnificentBastard Friggin']]'' [[LargeHam Doom]] as voiced by a reallly hammy and scenary-chewing Creator/MauriceLaMarche.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers'' has so many ensemble darkhorses that it's hard to qualify. Minor characters re-appear as medium character, part of a team or full blown important characters.
** 21 and 24 (but especially 21 now) are the best example. They started off as nameless henchmen (numberless, too in the first episodes) to have more air time than the Monarch himself. In the latest season, 21, after he TookALevelInBadass, could arguably be called the leader of the Monarchs. The other henchmen refer to him a General 21. He is even putting the moves on Dr. Misses the Monarch, whom he has always crushed on.
** Baron Von Underbite, Scott Hall and Radical Left were medium, minor and cameo characters respectively who [[spoiler:become part of The Revenge Society]].
** Scott Hall was a basic yet competent minion who [[spoiler: eventually became a powerful super villain who killed dozens of heroes and villains and then joined The Revenge Society.]]
** Shore Leave and Sky Pilot were first shown as OSI agents briefly in a flashback alongside several other OSI agents, and then becoming minor characters for an episode who help Brock escape assassins. And then Shore Leave becomes a relatively important [[spoiler:Sphinx]] agent alongside Brock and Sky Pilot [[spoiler: and turns out to have been an important mole all along.]]
** Sphinx and a few of its members appeared in a brief flashback before the good guys revive Sphinx to hunt down bad guys and a few former Sphinx operatives get an entire episode dedicated to them.
** The OSI and The Guild of Calamitous Intent were originally unknown to everyone in the cast and were super secretive organizations only heard of in whispers.
** The Sea Captain was a one episode villain that is now a reoccurring minor character.

** The Wizards of the Black Circle, due to being the most competent villains in the series, and the only ones to [[spoiler: permanently kill one of the Heroes.]] The fan base was ''pissed'' at how [[AntiClimaxBoss easily they were defeated.]]
** Daphne is beloved for being a CoolBigSis, having a unique [[HeroicSacrifice backstory]], and having a really interesting design, though many were upset when [[spoiler: her backstory was changed and she was revived.]]

** Nina, due to her design and love of science.
** Oscar because of his {{adorkable}}ness.
** Jake, mostly because of the novelty of him looking like [[WesternAnimation/ReadyJetGo Sean]], and because his character got expanded later on in the show, since he is revealed to have a fear of creepy crawlies.
** Vera is popular due to being a bit tomboyish, having a love of dinosaurs, and providing Filipina representation to the show.
** Kenji, Tooey's dad, is very often designated as a "DILF" by fans who love his soft voice and kindness, making him a male, cartoon example of a YamatoNadeshiko. The producers caught on, but [[OutOfFocus took him away]].

His cowardice was so over the top, you couldn't help but laugh (believing he would go to prison for removing a mattress tag, that staplers spy on important documents and will take over the world, that football players in a huddle ''during a game, no less'' are talking about him behind his back, etc.) Bo was one as well, to a lesser extent given his laid-back attitude and despite the fact that he was not seen nearly as often as his twin sister, Lanolin.

** The Demon Cat from "Dungeon" is very popular despite only appearing in that episode. It helps that its "approximate knowledge of many things" line was subject to MemeticMutation.
** Breakfast Princess is a minor princess, but her cute design garnered her a lot of fans.

** ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyAndFriends'': Downplayed due to the show's relative obscurity as compared to its, er, [[{{Understatement}} somewhat more popular successor]], but [[TerribleTrio Reeka, Draggle and Hydia]], [[WickedWitch a trio of bumbling witches]], stand out from the heroes by being both [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain endearingly incompetent]] and [[HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood having]] [[SlapstickKnowsNoGender actual]] [[ZanyScheme conflict]], unlike the [[VanillaProtagonist bland and interchangeable]] EnsembleCast protagonists learning some StockAesop or other and getting NewPowersAsThePlotDemands.
