Added DiffLines:

* Units can't freely trade weapons and items between each other. Instead, the player must have the unit sell their stuff at a castle's pawn shop so that another unit can then buy it for themselves.
* Instead of the typical preparations screen for most chapters, the player deploys their units from their home castle onto the map one at a time. Also, there's no deployment limit.

Added DiffLines:

* This is the only game in the series where the in-combat Hit Rate can't go lower than 1% or higher than 99%.

* Some of the Ballistician attack animations depict it using a weapon that is clearly a cannon. Every other game in the series plays FantasyGunControl very straight.

As a long-running strategy RPG series, ''Franchise/FireEmblem'' has changed a lot over the years. Unsurprisingly, many of the earlier installments, especially those that were not localized for many years, often lack typical series features or have unique aspects that have since been discarded.

* ''Blazing Blade'' marks the first time that the series allowed the creation of any avatar-type character. Like most such avatar characters, Mark serves as the tactician for the team. Unlike later avatar characters, Mark is not a combat unit and has no appearance options whatsoever, with even their gender not affecting their appearance and only actually affecting a few lines of dialog.

Added DiffLines:

* When the series began to be released outside Japan, every game up until ''Awakening'' featured significant ''gameplay'' changes in the localization in addition to script and name changes. These ranged from attempts at DifficultyByRegion (toning-down [[WeaponOfXSlaying weapon effectiveness]] in ''Blazing Blade'', removing Maniac difficulty from ''Path of Radiance'', raising the stats and growths of some units in ''Sacred Stones'', giving the Dawn Brigade exclusive weapons in ''Radiant Dawn'') to toning-down perceived {{Scrappy Mechanic}}s (lowering the Avoid of Thrones in ''Blazing Blade'', simplifying forging and promotion in ''Radiant Dawn''). From ''Awakening'' onwards, localizations almost never modified gameplay or difficulty levels, keeping the gameplay experience the same as in Japan.

* The Famicom version of ''Shadow Dragon'' and ''The Binding Blade'' are the only games in the franchise where Boots are purchasable at Secret Shops, and for good reason. This is because extra movement, particularly on characters who already have high movement and/or flying mounts completely breaks apart the last few chapters and you can keep buying and using them on the same people (up to 25 movement!) as long as you have cash. The conspicuous removal of Boots (but not other stat-boosting items) from future games' Secret Shops indicates that they probably learned their lesson here.
