Added DiffLines:

Nine and Zero is a nine person roleplay based off the of the ''VisualNovel/ZeroEscape'' games. The plot is rather similar to its source material - nine 'players' are kidnapped and forced to escape from a location - in this case, a hotel.

[[folder:Main Characters]]
!!Bracelet 1 - Eve/[[spoiler: Mitsuki Kagami]]
A 16 year old schoolgirl, and the holder of Bracelet 1. [[spoiler: In truth, she's the heir to the Kagami family, both a major technology manufacturing group and quite possibly one of the strongest mafia groups in the world. She also has control of the 'mirror' talent, allowing her to perfectly analyse and mimic the personality of someone else or create a perfect 'contrasting' personality for them. Also, she may or may not be a clone.]]

%%* BadassAdorable: [[spoiler:Eve's familial background. The girl grew up in a ''mafia family''!]]
%%* CorruptTheCutie: [[spoiler: The cause? Her ''entire involvement'' with Akira, the boy in the photo.]]
* DisappearedDad: When asked about her family, Eve mentions she loved her mother very much. She doesn't breathe a word of her father.
%%* DyingDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler:Ow.]]
* {{Foil}}: Ari and Eve actually turn out to share a lot of issues. There is a big difference with them though, Eve wants her mindset to get better. Ari is willing to let his degrade even more.
* HopeSpot: [[spoiler:Killed off just after taking a level in badass. Nobody saw that coming.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:After being almost overcome by her evil personality, she asks Grey to kill her. This is the result.]]
* IronicEcho: "Call it intuition," [[spoiler: as she takes Grey's robot eye after his death.]]
* MeaningfulName:
** Her bracelet number's 1, so her alias is 'Eve', as in 'the first woman'.
** [[spoiler: Her real family name, 'Kagami,' is written with the character for 'mirror,' a reference to her talent.]]
** [[spoiler: Her real given name, 'Mitsuki,' is written with the characters for 'beautiful moon.' This might be another reference to her talent, as the moon does not shine with its own light. This is mentioned in her dying thoughts in the Last Words timeline.]]
---> [[spoiler: '''Voice:''' i'LL Be thE SUN, yoU Are the MOON; withOUT mY Light, WHAT ARE YOU?]]
---> [[spoiler: '''Eve:''' ...nothing.]]
%%* MadnessMantra: [[spoiler:nothingnothingnothingnothingnothingnothingnothingnothingnothing]]
* MirrorCharacter: With Grey, in a plot twist that neither of their authors predicted. [[spoiler: They're both artificially created.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: After [[spoiler: Grey's death]] she becomes much less passive.
* SharingABody: [[spoiler:With Grey during Chapters 5-7.]]
* SplitPersonality:
** [[spoiler:After Grey's death, her personality and mannerisms fluctuate between Grey's, Tsuin's, her own, and Avalon's.]]
** [[spoiler: A bit later, she turns out to have an ''evil'' split personality!]]
* SuperpowerLottery:
** [[spoiler:She holds the 'mirror' talent, which lets her instantly psychoanalyze anyone and effectively copy their personality, or create a 'perfect match' for them.]]
** [[spoiler: It's hinted her real talent is to 'break barriers'. For example, ''breaking out of the Void Room.'']]
%%* TookALevelInBadass: Last Words Timeline. After [[spoiler:Grey]] dies.
%%* VoiceOfTheLegion
%%* WhamLine: [[spoiler: She has ''a lot.'']]
%%-->[[spoiler: '''To Grey, after he tells her he trusts her:'''...you'd probably be better off placing your trust elsewhere.]]
%%-->[[spoiler: '''In her head:''' hE knOWs tOo mUcH!]]

!!Bracelet 2 - Tsuin
An young adult woman who aims to become a doctor, and holder of Bracelet 2.

* ActingYourIntellectualAge: She's never played a video game and looks down on those who indulge in fun things.
* AssholeVictim:
** Last Words Timeline. [[spoiler:Almost killed by Ari and saved by Aegis... then proceeds get angry at him. ''Tell your boyfriend not to murder my charge next time.'']]
** Though she made herself extremely easy to hate to every male of the cast [[spoiler: she was choked out, beaten down, and screamed at by a mentally unbalanced RoaringRampageOfRevenge for something she hadn't done.]]
* BadassBookworm: Yeah. Seriously. She's a talented doctor and psychologist that can fight decently if need be.
%%* BadassInANiceSuit: Complete with clock cufflinks!
* BaseBreakingCharacter: InUniverse. In universe, half the players hate her, whereas the other half are good friends with her.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She ''really'' doesn't want Eve and Grey to talk to each other.
%%* TheCorrupter: [[spoiler:To Eve. Maybe.]]
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** She began hating Grey simply because he was ''angry at Strict and Cheery GM after being kidnapped.''
** She hates Ari as soon as he calls her 'little'.
* FreudianExcuse: She's had to put up with a lot of shit from boys in the past, which is why she hates them on sight. [[spoiler: Hinted to be more than this -- she mentions something about once having a boyfriend at one point, than cut herself off, potentially implying that something happened.]]
%%* IceQueen
* ImprobableAge: Tsuin is studying to be a psychiatrist and has no trouble treating injuries. She's 19.
* ImprovisedWeapon: [[spoiler: Last Words Timeline. Uses Eve's bracelet to attack Ari.]]
%%* InsufferableGenius: She's quite rude to all the male characters and ''insists'' on being safe, putting all the other players in danger.
* IronLady: Most of the male characters don't take her seriously at first. This changes.
* MeaningfulName: 'Tsuin' is the phonetic Japanese pronounciation of 'twin'. This reflects her bracelet number being 2, along with her acting completely differently towards particular people. [[spoiler: Also, she's literally a twin.]]
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: While she is shown to be a capable doctor [[spoiler: by patching up Grey after VGC attacked]], she doesn't exactly adhere to the Hippocratic Oath.
* NonIdleRich: Her family is very wealthy, but she's studying to become a doctor anyway.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Post-"Last Words" route, Tsuin is often (jokingly) portrayed as [[spoiler: a mass-murderer]] despite it only happening in one route.
%%* OutOfCharacterAlert: [[spoiler: When she snaps.]]
* RantInducingSlight: Lying [[spoiler: appears to trigger her SplitPersonality.]]
%%* RedOniBlueOni: The blue (well, black) to Grey's red (well, [[ShapedLikeItself grey.]])
%%* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:Holy shit.]]
%%* SuperpowerLottery: [[spoiler:It has not been confirmed, but she is expected to have the 'intellect' talent.]]
* WeaksauceWeakness: She's very sensitive to loud noise. This doesn't go well when Grey is [[spoiler: screaming his lungs out due to being penalized.]] Mentioned briefly when fighting Ari in the Last Words Timeline.]]

!!Bracelet 3 - Aegis
A 21 year old man who comes from a rich family and is easily characterised by his red visor. Holds Bracelet 3.

* AccidentalMurder: A ''huge'' KickTheDog moment in the "Last Words" route, [[spoiler:he accidentally kills Ari, when all he meant to do was knock him out.]]
%%* AwesomeMcCoolname: It may not be meaningful, but what it is is ''fucking awesome!''
* AsLongAsItSoundsForeign: His name was ''supposed'' to be a Greek name, but Aegis-Mun went with it because it sounded [[RuleOfCool cooler]].
* BlindWithoutEm: Similar to his inspiration, he's blind without his visor.
* ClearMyName: Once he [[spoiler: is accused of murdering Ari in the second timeline.]] Suspicion is cast upon him. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted,]] as the players are still suspicious of him afterwards.
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Out of all the players, he probably has the weakest grasp on reality.
%%* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Despite all of his stupidity, he isn't that bad of a puzzle solver.
%%* CyanidePill
* DrivenToSuicide: In the Last Words route, [[spoiler:after realizing that he killed Ari, guilt from the past and the present topples upon him until he can't take it.]]
* GoodParents: Claims to have awesome parents during a free-time event. [[spoiler: Further dialog suggests it was more a case of ParentalNeglect.]]
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Doesn't show it that often but, [[spoiler: there are ''several'' hints that Aegis despises who he is, and this is confirmed by his final thoughts.]]
* {{Keet}}: Easily the most energetic cast member. [[spoiler:He looked even perkier at sixteen.]]
%%* LargeHam
%%* ManChild: Frequently gets caught up/angered by things he shouldn't be concerned about as an adult.
* TheNicknamer: On occasion. 'Ari-Head' for Ari, 'Atly' for Atlas, and 'Tsuey' for Tsuin.
* ObfuscatingInsanity: [[spoiler: Once he's nearly falsely pinned of murdering Ari in Timeline 2, he pretends to lose it, as part of a gambit that works to a certain extent.]]
%%* PungeonMaster
* RedHerring: Let's see, violent, loud, and frequently gets on the other players' shit-lists. In the Last Words route, [[spoiler:the only victim he claims is due to an accident. Unless you count his suicide shortly after.]]
* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: A party boy with no direction in his life.
%%* ShoutOut: One of the main participants in the regular Phoenix Wright punfests.
* SignificantAnagram: 'Voles Geisa Riis', which he mutters to himself multiple times throughout the later half of the "Last Words" route. [[spoiler:Unscrambled, it says 'Aegis loves Iris'.]]
* UseYourHead: Last Words Timeline. Or more accurately, [[spoiler: ''use your visor to knock out Ari.'' Don't forget the murder part of it.]]

!!Bracelet 4 - Atlas
A girl of an unknown age who comes from a military family and rarely talks. Holds Bracelet 4.

%%* EmotionlessGirl
* NegatedMomentOfAwesome: Game 2. [[spoiler: Slaps Empress in the face after Grey is killed by her. Then kicked to the ground and stepped on sadistically.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: Yep, she's the ''second oldest cast member''.
%%* TheStoic

!!Bracelet 5 - Heron
A young girl dressed up in Japanese mori fashion. Holds Bracelet 5.

* {{Flanderization}}: Her shyness falls under this. In the first few chapters when she was introduced, she was relatively chatty. In later ones, she barely talks to anyone except [[ImpliedLoveInterest Tsuin.]]
%%* OrwellianRetcon: In the novelisation.

!!Bracelet 6 - Grey/[[spoiler: Janus/Sonne Leuchte]]
An 18 year old boy and main character of the written adaptation. Holds Bracelet 6 and is easily spotted by his all-grey clothes and hoodie. [[spoiler: In truth, he's the result of the Sonne Project (and to a lesser extent, its sister, the Janus Project). He's also got a robot eye.]]

%%* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler:To Eve.]]
* BlessedWithSuck: [[spoiler: His true talent is the 'chimera' talent, a result of Project Sonne. It lets him absorb the consciousness of other people, effectively turning him into a MindHive. He ''can't control it.'']]
* CatchPhrase: "Call it intuition."
* CloningBlues: [[spoiler:Zig-zagged. At first, the realisation breaks him near-entirely, but he quickly calms down and starts [[MoodWhiplash making robot apocalypse jokes and the like.]] He even thinks of it as a positive!]]
%%* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: [[SarcasmMode In case you hadn't already realised it...]]
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* DeathSeeker: Last Words Timeline. Appears to be this during Chapter 3. [[spoiler: It works.]]
%%* {{Determinator}}: He [[spoiler: has his legs 'broken', is strangled for two minutes ''without losing consciousness'', and willingly sacrifices himself on the first forced-betrayal round in Timeline 1.]]
* HistoryRepeats: [[spoiler:He's in love with Eve... then it turns out he's effectively a reincarnation of Akira. Maybe. Leads to TheAtoner, partially.]]
* InformedFlaw: Apparently, he has an inferiority complex [[spoiler: due to the fact that his robot eye effectively overshadows any talents he might have]]. This is barely, if ever, mentioned in canon.
* IronicEcho: Repeatedly mentions his situation 'feeling like a B-grade X movie' as the game goes on. Overlaps with LampshadeHanging.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: [[spoiler: ''Willingly destroyed Asteria's black Psyche-Lock knowing full well it could and would quite possibly break her mentally.'' It does. He's not 'evil', as such, but this was a huge dick move for him.]]
%%* MeaningfulName: Guess.
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: He pulls this early in the Last Words timeline to unite the players [[spoiler: with his death. Considering Ari nearly murdered Tsuin and Aegis ended up killing Ari, it is safe to say it didn't work. However, that wasn't his only goal.]]
* NeuralImplanting: [[spoiler:Wired into his eye, which allows him to memorise anything he sees. Also, allows him to download his entire memory and personality into a 'memory card' after death.]]
* TheNicknamer: "VideoGame/{{Ib}}" for Eve, "Shoe In/Soon" for Tsuin, "Aegislash" for Aegis, "VideoGame/BioShock" for Atlas, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "Bird"]] for Heron, "Margaret" for Asteria, and [[WebVideo/GameGrumps Arin]] for Ari.
%%* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Just like most of the characters.
* PowerCopying: [[spoiler:Appears to be how his talent works. It's less 'power copying', more 'absorbing consciousness', but it has that effect as well.]]
%%* PsychicPowers
%%* RedOniBlueOni: Red - well, grey - to Tsuin's blue.
* SharingABody: [[spoiler:With Eve in chapters 5-7, thanks to his 'chimera' talent.]]* ShoutOut:
** Frequently does this via song. So far, he's referenced WebVideo/GameGrumps and ''Theatre/LesMiserables''.
** Outside of song, he's referenced ''Franchise/{{Saw}}'', ''Film/BattleRoyale'', ''WebVideo/MarbleHornets'' and more.
** He has also mentioned several tropes.
* SuperpowerLottery: [[spoiler:He's got a robot eye that can memorise everything, can be revived after death, and has psychic powers. Sounds good, right? It's not.]]
* TomatoInTheMirror: [[spoiler:Done twice. The first time, he turns out to be a clone. The second time, he turns out (maybe) to be a clone of Akira, Eve's abusive ex-boyfriend!]]
%%* TooDumbToLive: Zig-zagged. He's quite smart, but his assumptions have got him [[spoiler: penalized by Strict GM. ''Twice.'']]
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler: Does this after Eve dies. Complete with a CoolSword, a {{Steampunk}}-esque BadassLongcoat, and the ability to use Eve's talent.]]
%%* WalkingSpoiler: Just like a lot of characters in this game.
%%* WhamLine: [[spoiler:One that makes his entire character arc make sense. "I think... ''I think I'm a clone.''"]]
* XanatosGambit: [[spoiler:Aims to take the hit on all possible forced-betrayal rounds, as he can easily be revived once they find another 'Grey-clone'. If he doesn't die? Hey, he'll still be living!]]

!!Bracelet 7 - Asteria
A mysterious girl who wears a large amount of jewellery and is skilled in tarot reading. Holds Bracelet 7.

%%* AwesomeMcCoolname: That's ''her real name.''
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler: Last Words Timeline. Takes a nap only to wake up to Ari dead, after nearly killing Tsuin, and then walks in on Aegis' suicide. Which was caused by the grief Aegis suffered from accidentally killing Ari. All of this after the death of the youngest of the entire party, Eve.]]
%%* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Surprisingly skilled at puzzle solving.
* HeavySleeper: She sleeps through many of the large decisions made during the Nonary Game due to narcolepsy.
%%* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: She talks directly to the narrator at times.
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: Her tarot readings are always accurate. No explanation has been given.
%%* MysteriousWaif
* NotSoStoic: You thought she was going to pull the full 'mysterious girl' role? Out come the [[ShoutOut Shin Megami Tensei jokes!]]
%%* SuperpowerLottery: [[spoiler:Assumedly has the 'oracle' talent.]]

!!Bracelet 8 - Break Stratos/[[spoiler: ???]]
%%* AwesomeMcCoolname: Her name is badass as fuck
%%* ChildSoldiers: Not exactly a soldier, but something similar
* ElegantClassicalMusician: Break has synesthesia and is a wonderful musician in any genre, and can pick up songs very quickly.
* TheGunslinger: Break has significant skill with guns due to her background. She's best at using smaller guns.

!!Bracelet 9 - Avalon/Avery Liu
A boy of unknown age who holds Bracelet 9, the last bracelet. Confirmed by WordOfGod to be transgender.

* TheAlcoholic: [[spoiler:He used to drink quite a bit.]]
%%* AlwaysSecondBest: Seems to be a common occurrence with him, to his dismay.
%%* TheAtoner: [[spoiler: Killed his companion, Keith, while drunk and attempting to defend a child.]]
%%* CasanovaWannabe: According to the others, he is the living embodiment of this trope.
%%* DomesticAbuse: [[spoiler:Hinted at during his conversations in the void room, with Keith.]]
* GameBreaker: InUniverse example - Bracelet 9 is the most useful bracelet.
* InTheBack: [[spoiler:He kills Keith by shooting him in the back with Keith's pistol.]]
* NoHonorAmongThieves: [[spoiler: Keith ends up stabbing him, to which he responds by shooting Keith in return.]]
* ThePenance: [[spoiler: Arguably, his alcoholism, in regards to his past crimes.]]
%%* RunningGag: Avalon is a brony.
* TeamKiller: [[spoiler:At least in his mind, this is what he did to Keith.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: His hair is, according to his sprite, ''pink''.

[[folder:Others]]

!!Cheery GM
One of the managers of the Nonary Game, and strangely upbeat. Which tends to get on everyone's nerves.

%%* BigBad: With Strict GM.
%%* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: With Strict GM.
%%* MissionControl: Of sorts.
* ShoutOut:
** Sings a parody of 'Do You Want To Build A Snowman' from ''WesternAnimation/Frozen2013'' with Grey during Chapter 2.
** Makes a lot more references in the novelisation. One good example is [[WebVideo/DontHugMeImScared 'Whoah there, friend, you might need to slow down!']]

!!Strict GM
The second manager of the Nonary Game. Is a lot less upbeat than Cheery GM.

* AdaptationNameChange: Referred to as Serious GM a few times in canon, but Strict GM in the novelisation. Neither one has been officially confirmed.
%%* BigBad: With Cheery GM.
%%* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: With Cheery GM.
%%* DisproportionateRetribution: Towards [[spoiler: Grey.]]
%%* MissionControl: Of sorts.

!!Violent Grey Clone / [[spoiler:Grey's Dad]]
A mysterious character who [[spoiler:attacked Grey when he was investigating the washroom. Apparently, he looks identical to Grey.]]
In reality, he's [[spoiler:Grey's father, inhabiting a body of one of the Grey-clones. He infiltrated the Nonary Games in an attempt to kill Grey and stop him from remembering his origins.]]

%%* EvilTwin [[spoiler: Of Grey. Supposedly.]]
%%* LukeIAmYourFather
%%* StealthHiBye
%%* WalkingSpoiler

!![[spoiler: Akira,]] AKA The Boy in the Photo/[[spoiler:Grey?]]
A teenage boy who is seen in a photo Eve found while revisiting the Earth Room. [[spoiler: It turns out that Akira was once Eve's boyfriend, and the heir to Kagami Corp, their sister business and front for the mafia group. At some point, he turned abusive towards Eve, forcing her to kill people, using her as a sex slave, and the like.]]

%%* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:If he really is Grey.]]
%%* TheCorrupter: [[spoiler: To Eve.]]
%%* WalkingSpoiler: [[spoiler: For Eve's route.]]

!!The Couch
A mysterious, possibly diabolical figure in the Nonary Game. Stalks the players everywhere, silently.

* AscendedMeme: Originally accused to be Zero in a gag post, it now has its own spot on the Wiki/TVTropes page!
%%* BigBad: If it really is the true Zero.
* PlayingWithPuppets: Views the other players as its playthings.
* SuperPersistentPredator: Constantly chasing the players.
%%* SurroundedByIdiots: At least that's how he sees it.

!!Zero
The main antagonist of the game, just as in the source material. And just as usual, ''one of them is the mastermind.''

%%* GasMaskLongcoat: Obviously.
%%* {{Expy}}: Of [[ShapedLikeItself Zero.]] Does this bear saying?
* TheManBehindTheMan: Strict and Cheery GM do all the work for them.
* NoNameGiven: Unlike in 999 and VLR, Zero hasn't been mentioned in-game, with Cheery and Strict GM running the show. However, Grey did, early game, mention Zero by name, casting suspicion on him.
%%* TenLittleMurderVictims: Literally referenced in-story. By Grey, obviously.

!!Bracelet [[spoiler:6]] - Thanatos / Todd [[spoiler:Leuchte]] / [[spoiler:Grey Leuchte]]
An enigmatic young boy.

%%* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:With Grey.]]
* VerbalTic: ''Types... kind of... e-erm, quietly...''

!!Bracelet [[spoiler:1]] - Empress / [[spoiler:Mitsuki Kagami]]
An enigmatic, proper woman.

%%* IceQueen: And ''how.''
%%* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:With Eve.]]

[[folder: Funny]]
* Any and all of the moments during the [[HurricaneOfPuns Phoenix Wright punfests.]] And there's a [[UpToEleven whole lot of them.]]
* Almost everything out of character. 'A serious RP for serious people', indeed.
* [[spoiler: [[EpilepticTrees THE COUCH]]]] IS THE MASTERMIND
* The Chapter 2 free time events - at least, part of it. They discuss Pokemon, of all things. Cue banter between Grey, Aegis and Tsuin.
** Most of the Free Time Events in the novelisation will either be hilarious or [[TearJerker heartrending.]]
* Avalon is [[Franchise/MyLittlePony a brony.]]
* An easy to miss early one:
->''Heron:'' "Grey, kick those doors and see if the voices are lying."
->''[He does.]''
->''Grey:'' "FUCK!"
->''[Beat]''
->''Grey:'' "I aim to please."
->''Avalon:'' "Ladies and gentlemen, Grey has just shown our way out of here! We all fuckin' fly-kick the walls until our legs break, and then we won't have to go into any goddamn puzzle rooms!"
* Another Grey-related one.
->[DOOR 2 TEAM SAFE. DOOR 7 AND INVESTIGATION TEAMS STILL IN DANGER.]
->''>Grey: Punch bed in anger.''
->''That did absolutely nothing. But it did make you feel better.''
->''...The bed's feelings are hurt!''
->''Strict GM:'' "You know, I really should punish you for that."
->''Grey:'' "Don't you fucking dare."

* Drunk Avery in Chapter 6 and 7.
-->Avery: "But if you had to pick one... Texas Instruments, or Casio?"
-->Grey: "I can't focus on [[spoiler:Project Sonne]] when Bracelet 9 over there's blabbering about [[CargoShip fucking a calculator!"]]

[[folder:Heartwarming]]
* Any time that Eve and Tsuin talk, you can be guaranteed that it'll be adorable.
->'''Tsuin:''' ''[concerned]'' "Promise me you won't be a martyr, Eve. Promise me."
->'''Eve:''' "...I promise."
* Similarly, Ari and Aegis's interactions are also heartwarming.
->'''Ari:''' ''[passionately]'' "Trust me, Aegis, you ''ain't'' useless. That's why you're not gonna die here, and we're gonna get out of here alive."
* Grey and Eve. Pick a free time event, any event, and it will definitely be both heartwarming and [[TearJerker soul-crushingly sad.]]
->'''Grey:''' "I don't want to fucking die in this place, not here... I promise you, we'll both make it out of here together, no matter what."
->'''Eve:''' "...Thank you, Grey..."
->''[The two hug, both crying.]''
* The big hugging scene after the first betrayal. Even Tsuin seems pretty happy about it.
* Last Words timeline, Chapter 5, [[spoiler: between Dead!Grey and Eve. After the truth about Eve's 'mirror' talent is revealed, Grey ''flips the fuck out'' and threatens to kill himself. Then Eve tells him that she still trusts him.]]
->[[spoiler: ''Eve:'': "My name is Mitsuki Kagami. I am the daughter and successor to a ruthless mafia family. I can create a perfect ideal personality depending on who I am dealing with. And... I also put complete faith in a boy I met while playing the Nonary Game."]]
->[[spoiler: ''Grey'': "...You... really trusted me?"]]
->[SOCIAL LINK: MAXED]
* Last Words Timeline. After Ari gets his tarot reading for Asteria Tsuin gets hers. And Ari and Tsuin have a civil conversation about leadership and they apologize to one another. Which may not seem like much but they've been at one another's throats since the first chapter.
** [[spoiler: YMMV since about a chapter or two later Ari attempts to kill Tsuin. Makes the moment move towards more of a tearjerker.]]
* [[spoiler: Tsuin and Atlas]] kiss in Chapter 7. And it's adorable.

** [[spoiler: Grey's 'chimera' talent was meant to let him telepathically connect with other people. It went wrong. Very, very wrong. Instead, he ''absorbs the consciousness of the target person''. Oh, and he can't control it.]]
* BullyingADragon: [[spoiler: Subverted. Tsuin is rude to Ari for the first three floors. But once she threatens to kill Aegis and she physically assaults him he snaps and nearly beats Tsuin to death with his bare hands in front of all of the others. Luckily Aegis stops him. Though that proved a bit too permanent...]]
* CrazyEnoughToWork: [[spoiler: Grey's plan to get himself killed to unite the group against a common enemy. [[SubvertedTrope It didn't]] [[HopeSpot quite work.]] ]]
%%* ChekhovsGun: Everything found in the Astronomical Doors late-game. ''Everything.''
%%* DarkSecret: Arguably, everyone.
* DecoyProtagonist: The novelisation pulls this off, switching character perspectives every time one dies. [[spoiler: And Grey's the first character it focuses on. And he dies a lot.]]
%%* DysfunctionJunction: ''Everyone.''
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: The Nonary Game is suggested by the [=GMs=] to be like this for all but one person. And it can be argued that living with the trauma of this event for the rest of their lives is hardly winning.
%%* {{Foreshadowing}}: Frequently, due to the setup of the game.
%%* GallowsHumor: Most of the antics of the players can be summed up with "people do stupid things under pressure."
* GutPunch: You'd think all that [[spoiler:Grey]] endures, he'd be one of the last players to die, right? [[spoiler: Nope. In most timelines, he dies ''first'' due to a forced-betrayal round.]] [[spoiler: Admittedly, this was his plan.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Ari and Aegis, in the first timeline.
* HereWeGoAgain: The players finally exhaust all numbers except Door 9, and... [[spoiler: there's still five more floors to go. The numbers [[OhCrap double up.]] ]]
%%* HiddenDepths: Most of the cast.
* LesserOfTwoEvils: The choice they're forced to make in the Voting Round. [[spoiler: First seen when the [=GMs=] force them to betray someone in the second round of voting.]]
%%* ImpliedLoveInterest: [[spoiler: Eve and Akira.]]
%%* JumpScare: Generally any time Psyche-Locks are summoned by accident.
%%* KillTheCutie: In the "Last Words" route. [[spoiler: Ari votes to kill Eve in order to hurt Tsuin.]]
%%* TheMole: [[spoiler: According to Betrayal End, Tsuin.]]
* MisplacedRetribution: Ari screams, mainly at Tsuin, [[spoiler: when Grey was voted to die]]. It can be argued though he targeted her because of her careless attitude. Ari was hardly in a stable state of mind.
* MoodWhiplash: After the heartbreaking ''Betrayal End Chapter 4'' comes... the most hilarious OOC session yet.
-> "apollo justice: i present my attorney badge for critical damage"
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Betrayal End timeline: [[spoiler: Ari's reaction to Tsuin's freakout. Tsuin hurls Eve's bracelet in his face and Ari proceeds to [[WouldHitAGirl fight her with clear intent to kill]]. ]]
%%* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler: Grey and Eve.]]
%%* OmegaEnding: Subverted. You have to get the true ending before you can finish off several characters' ends.
* OnlyAFleshWound: Subverted in the Betrayal End timeline. [[spoiler: When Ari is hit in the head with the visor and left unbandaged he actually dies. Even though the other contestants seemed to think he'd be just fine.]] Also played straight in the Betrayal End timeline. [[spoiler: Tsuin is beaten down by a man twice her size. Ari. with no sense of mercy and all she uses to fix herself is a household first aid kit. She suffers no long term effects.]]
* PragmaticAdaptation: There was ''a lot of dialogue'' in some of the chapters. The novelisation cuts a lot of this out.
%%* RelationshipValues: Just as in ShinMegamiTenseiPersona 3 and 4, Social Links serve as this. They tend to get a bit confusing with all the timeline stuff.
* RunningGag:
** In universe and out, [[Franchise/AceAttorney Phoenix Wright puns]] are this. Expect to see at least one in every chapter. The novelisation even advertises '200% more Phoenix Wright puns!'
%%* VileVillainSaccharineShow
* ShoutOut: Fast and frequently. Taken to extremes in the novel version, which somehow manages to add in ''even more.''
** Betrayal End Chapter 5 adds [[Franchise/AceAttorney Psyche-Locks]], of all things!
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Encouraged in universe - Characters that take an 'active role' are the only ones allowed to re-explore their 'Astronomical Door' and gain [[PlotCoupon items related to the plot.]]
%%* ShootTheDog: The characters are forced to make a ''lot'' of difficult choices.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Tsuin continues flirting with Heron as [[spoiler: Grey is penalized and strangled for two minutes straight.]]
* WhamEpisode: Betrayal End - Chapter 4 Betrayal/Chapter 5 Alliance. [[spoiler: Eve dies. Tsuin flips out and fights Ari, who almost kills her. Aegis intervenes by smashing his visor into Ari's head, which [[NiceJobBreakingItHero kills his best friend unintentionally]]. Aegis, ridden with guilt, commits suicide. [[UpToEleven Then]], Dead!Grey, Ari and Eve have a discussion with [[ShoutOut Psyche-]][[MoodWhiplash Locks]], and Eve's traumatic backstory is finally revealed. Finally, Grey threatens to destroy his memory card and erase himself from existence, but is stopped by Eve confessing her [[UnusualEuphemism 'trust']] in him. Jesus christ.]]
* WhamLine: Frequently.
%%** ''"PENALTY RECIEVED: INSTANT DEATH: BRACELET [NUMBER]"'' is always one. Bonus points if it's someone unexpected.
%%** [[spoiler: ''"BECAUSE HE LOOKS [[PrecisionFStrike FUCKING]] EXACTLY LIKE ME!"'']]
%%** [[spoiler: "You should probably put your trust in someone else."]]
%%** [[spoiler: Dead!Grey: "Ari, Eve. I don't think we're dead at all."]]
%%** ...And a lot more besides.
** One of the first major ones in Game 2: "Oh, I'm, uh... my name's Asteria." [[spoiler: Cue mental breakdown from Thanatos.]]
%%* WhatTheHellHero: Ari's (and a few other character's) reaction to Grey [[spoiler: the first time he tries to martyr himself]].
%%* WhiteVoidRoom: The [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Void Room]], [[spoiler: where dead players end up.]]
%%* YouCantThwartStageOne: Some betrayal rounds require someone to be betrayed. Unlike in the source material.
