* In the , there are demons, vampires, witches, and people with horns spikes and wings...and then you meet GenkiGirl Rochelle, the cheerful Night keeper Sara, and Madam Chen, who just wants her coffee. In fact, most vampires are harmless pretty boys (until they become Rippers)

* Kukuri in Anime/MahoujinGuruGuru dresses in black robes, carries a staff with an eye on it, and is described as a "Dark Elemental." Her magic involves demon-summoning and is considered dark magic. However, while possessing many traits of the BlackMagicianGirl, Kukuri's personality is closer to that of the WhiteMagicianGirl. There is also a Dark Society of black magic practitioners who are allies of the heroes against the demon lord Giri.

* In Anime/DeathParade, The Black Haired Woman is the only main character whose palette is dark, with black hair, red eyes, and a mostly black outfit. Yet she's easily the most innocent character, as well as one of the most emphatic and pleasant. The Psychopomp arbiters, by contrast, mostly lack empathy and complex emotions, yet have bright, bubbly palettes.

*** Giratina is actually a representation of antimatter in the same way that Palkia and Dialga are time and space respectively. He's most likely simply a ghost not because he is in any form 'dead' so much as alive in a sense somehow opposite to normal Pokémon.

* In Franchise/SailorMoon (which always plays DarkIsEvil straight with its Big Bad's), Hotaru may be Sailor Saturn, the Soldier of Destruction, but she isn't evil. In fact, she's very shy and sweet, and even though she's possessed when we first meet her, it's not her fault at all.

** After becoming Hell Kaiser and wearing a black coat that replaces his white one from Duel Academia, people close to Kaiser initially believe that he was controlled by some darkness that made him evil. However, he made it clear that he was not controlled by anything nor anyone and became the way he was through his own experience. Hell Kaiser wasn't evil, just a power-hungry Jerkass who used questionable methods to make his duels more intense. His forbidden cards, the Cyberdark cards, aren't evil either. They were forbidden and locked away because they are dangerous for their user, not because they are evil. This is made clear in season 4, where Sho receives the Cyberdark cards among others and is perfectly fine using them without any side effects.

***

* Subverted in SayonaraZetsubouSensei with Mayo Mitama. She really is as evil as she looks, but everyone else simply assumes that she's misunderstood. Basically, she takes full advantage of those savvy in this trope.
