Nelvana's corporate overlord is Corus Entertainment, which acquired the company in 2000. Corus also owns a number of other media companies in Canada, including Creator/TreehouseTV (essentially a Canadian version of NickJr airing a large number of Nelvana programs, though Canada does have its own Nickelodeon with a Nick Jr. block. - which is owned by... surprise! Corus Entertainment), Creator/YTV (aimed more towards the preteen market), Creator/Teletoon (a Canadian version of Creator/CartoonNetwork, though Canada has its own Cartoon Network which is also owned by Corus) and Kids Can Press (publisher of the Literature/Franklin books, which was itself acquired by Nelvana in 1998)

* AnimatedAdaptation: They have probably done more series based on children's books and live-action shows than original ideas. They also came close to doing an animated version of Series/DoctorWho during the live-action series's 1980s hiatus: a number of concept images can easily be found online, showing a Doctor with a strong resemblance to Creator/ChristopherLloyd, but with a costume similar to Creator/TomBaker's, a FlyingCar Bessie, and a K-9 who could transform into a Gladstone bag.

For many years, storybook-to-screen transitions were the studio's stock-in-trade, the studio having faithfully reproduced the distinctive style of the Franchise/CareBears, Babar, Literature/LittleBear, Miss Spider and WesternAnimation/Rupert, among many others.
