---> -- The series' answer to "these Romans are crazy!"

Kajko and Kokosz are a pair of comic book characters, created by the Polish cartoonist Janusz Christa in 1972, as expy of his two character Kajtek and Koko. Living in medieval Poland (or at least some vague Slavic country), the short, clever Kajko and the muscled, rather simple-minded Kokosz are warriors who protect the village of Mirmiłowo from the schemes of a band of brigands, though they sometimes head out on journeys. (The duo itself is essentially the medieval version of Christa's older characters, the modern-day sailors adventurers i Koko}} Kajtek and Koko, created in 1958). The characters star in both full-length "albums", and in a couple of shorter stories.

If you think that the premise sounds familiar, you're right; Christa himself admitted in late interviews that he was greatly inspired by (some would say, ripped off) ComicBook/Asterix. On the other hand, Kajtek (the short, resourceful guy) debuted on his own before Asterix. Regardless, the comics enjoy an enduring popularity in Poland, keep seeing re-releases and even receive an spin-off series after the creator's death with short stories focusing on different characters from Christa's universe and in 2019 official new book continuing the series. In 2020 the series was published in Denmark marking the first time the series was published out-side of Poland.

There were a couple of video game adaptations (some not very well received), theatrical plays, as well as a short animated movie based on the comics (universaly hated). An stage musical is in production as well a 2021 Netflix animated series was anounced - making it the first Polish animated Netflix original production.
----
!!Tropes in the series include:
* TheAce: Despite being short Kajko can handle any situation thrown at him, fast thinking and (while shown rarely) is an master archer and great sword fighter.
* TheAllegedSteed: Wit's horse.
* AlwaysCamp: Wit in the first book was very flamboyant and camp do to his poetic personality. This was town down in other books to make place for his growing Cloudcuckoolander trades.
* AnachronismStew: Some of the books feature anachronistic concepts for the sake of jokes about the modern world -- for example, one episode had the heroes preparing for a visitation from a "castle inspector".
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking : Hegemon the leader of the banditknights is a badass strongmen in his own right and a lot of fear his companions have for him feels justify by more then just his rank.
* Literature/BabaYaga: Jaga the witch is an obvious reference to Baba Yaga.
* BatteringRam: On one occasion the brigand Oferma suggests that the brigands simply break down the town's gate (as opposed to coming up with scheme of the week). They agree to the plan but forget to bring the ram and end up using Oferma's head instead. On the other occasion, one-shot villains break down the gate with a ram, only to realize that the heroes had covered it with glue the night before.
* BigEater: Kokosz.
* BrainsAndBrawn: The protagonists. As stated above, Kajko is the brains and Kokosz the brawn.
* BroomstickQuarterstaff: Kokosz once used a broom as a very effective weapon. However, a MagicFeather was involved, so he immediately started losing once it fell apart.
* ButtMonkey : Oferma (Clumsy) is this to other Banditknights who like to pick on him and find him worthless idiot no matter what the situation is.
* Cloudcuckoolander: Wit the Knight, and sometimes Kokosz and Mirmił.
* CoolPet: The heroes have a pet dragon, called Miluś.
* CowardlySidekick: Kokosz is usualy played as this in contrast to ever cool headed Kajko. On his own however he usualy flipflops between being over confident and a total coward.
* CrushingHandshake: When knights are sent to meet the duke's big brother, Wojmił. Wojmił and Kokosz are both examples of StoutStrength and squeeze each other to a standstill. Kajko, being much smaller, saves himself from injury by kicking Wojmil in the shin. Luckily, Wojmił finds this amusing.
* TheDitz: Oferma (his name means "Clumsy") the brigand.
* Druid: Jaga the witch fits this archetype the best -- she usually supplies the heroes with various magical herbs.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness:
** In the first story, "The Golden Chalice" Jaga was known as Zielacha and looked originally like an ugly old hag before making herself young-looking again through magic in later volumes. When introduced, she also appeared to be more of a clever con artist rather than a real witch.
** Mirmił was called a duke, not a castellan and had different hairdo.
** A Christian missionary, father Placid appears in the first story as a resident of Mirmiłowo. He's nowhere to be seen in later volumes.
** And banditknights, the iconic antagonists don't show up until the fourth story, "Flying School".
*** In fact the villians in the first story The Knights of the Black Triangle are very similair to the point some fans tend to confuse the two or make theories if they where ment to be the same cahracters.
** In the first story character moved into a caslte after their village get destroyed and they seam to live in the same castle in book two and three. They return living in the village in volume four with the castle never adress again.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: The corporal of the brigands.
* Expy:
** As stated above, most of character's mirrors the cast of ComicBook/Asterix.
** Łamignat appears to be parody of legendary Polish thief Myth/Janosik.
** The somewhat Germanic knights-brigands might be considered a twofold case, as they seem to be a stand-in for UsefulNotes/TheTeutonicKnights or a more generic group of invading Germans on one hand, and for the Gauls' Roman foes on the other.
* Flanderization: Wit the knight, appears to get this every time he returns (not counting silent cameos in the crowd scenes):
** In his first appearance while shown to have a very romanticize nature and poetic view of the world, Wit is still noble and competent knight, if not a tad silly at moments.
** In his second appearance he's turn into Don Quixotish SmallNameBigEgo loon who constantly challenges to a fight every person he meets, sings love poems to women's he's "yet to meet" and spends most of the story getting Kajko and Kokosz into trouble.
** In his third and final appearance Wit talks in rhyme all the time and is even more delusional about what he's doing, blowing up houses with powder he invented and demanding reward for it. The character has basically becomes village's MadScientist by this point.
* GotVolunteered: One of running gags with Oferma. Whenever an volunteer is needed to a dangerous mission his companions will simply kick him to the front and his supirors asumes he volunteered on his own. His to cluless to ever question this.
* HenpeckedHusband: Mirmił, the village chieftain.
* HorrorHunger: Well, more of a "horror thirst". In the book "Cudowny Lek" ("The miracle cure") there is a magic cursed water that makes anybody who drink it addicted to it. This leads to one of darkest sequencess in the series as after Kokosz drinks some of it he joins a cult of people doomed for eternity to walk in circle to take a zip of the water.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil : Oferma (Clumsy) one of the banditknights is happy-go-lucky and shows to share very little of his companions "bad to the bone" nature. Most of the time he is just fallowing orders, happy he can help and shows zero bad will toward Kajko, Kokosz and other character on his own and all people of Mirmiłowo don't appear to see him as a threat and more of a ChaoticNetural. All of Oferma's bad trades (being lazy, trying to avoid work) causes more problems to the his companions then to our heroes.
* Mismeasurement: In one comic, the evil knights would construct a siege tower to get over the town wall, but at night the heroes would sneak into the knights' encampment and alter the plans just enough to foil the plan. Since the knights were too stupid to recheck the measurements they would end up with a ramp that was too short or too long. HilarityEnsued.
* NameAndName
* NeverRecycleYourSchemes: Inverted. The villain Hegemon likes to reuse a simple plan of capturing the heroes' village: build a siege tower and use it to get his soldiers over the village wall. The trope is played straight with the heroes who will use a different method every time they have to foil his plan.
* ScoobyDooHoax: Barnaba and his gang tried to pull one on Kajko, Kokosz and Wit in "Szranki i Konkury" by trying to fool the heroes into thinking that the village they visited is haunted in order to scare them away, as the towns served as gang's hideout. One of Barnaba's goons even pretended to be Utopiec (an monster from Slavic mythology).
** The villains retrun to this gimmick in spin-off stories about Miluś the dragon.
* RhymesOnADime: Wit use to speak in rhyme all the time in his first apperance but give it up half way into the story as result of a broken heart. He did return to speaking in rhyme in the very last Christa story - a tendency that continie in the spin-off books and one of the video game adaptations.
* SuicideAsComedy : An running gag has Mirmił try to kill himself everytime things go wrong (usualy acompany by a long dramatic monolog) Luckly his wife Lubawa is there to stop him.
* VerbalTic: "Lelum polelum" for Łamignat the club-wielding barbarian.
* YourCostumeNeedsWork: One short story ("Professor Stokrotek") has both heroes transported to present day where they stumble onto a movie set of a historical drama film about their adventures. The film's main characters are completely unlike them, and when someone proposes that the two strange-dressed arrivals might serve as stuntmen for the lead characters, the director laughs them off; after all, they look nothing like the "real" Kajko and Kokosz!

Kajko and Kokosz are a pair of comic book characters, created by the Polish cartoonist Janusz Christa in 1972, as expy of his two character Kajtek and Koko (two sailors set in modern time, created in 1958). Living in medieval Poland (or at least some vague Slavic country), the short, clever Kajko and the muscled, rather simple-minded Kokosz are warriors who protect the village of Mirmiłowo from the schemes of a band of brigands, though they sometimes head out on journeys. (The duo itself is essentially the medieval version of Christa's older characters, the modern-day adventurers i Koko}} Kajtek and Koko.) The characters star in both full-length "albums", and in a couple of shorter stories.

If you think that the premise sounds familiar, you're right; Christa himself admitted in late interviews that he was greatly inspired by (some would say, ripped off) ComicBook/Asterix. On the other hand, Kajtek (the short, resourceful guy) debuted on his own before Asterix.
