* MistakenForCheating: One arc centers around Mo and Sydney being told separately by friends that they think their partner is cheating on them. It eventually turns out that both of them were consensually engaging in roleplay over online voice chat, but their friends overheard and misunderstood, causing them both to think there was a third party involved.

Has Two Mommies disambiguated

* HasTwoMommies:
** There are five children of lesbians in the strip. The first and most prominent is Raffi, son of Clarice and Toni. His birth came complete with LamazeClass and ScreamingBirth (everyone except Toni, the birth mom, went bananas) featured in a bonus segment in the collection ''Spawn of Dykes to Watch Out For''. When he starts going to school, a fellow student teases him, calling him "Heather." He has been friends since childhood with Stella, daughter of Toni's long-term extramarital crush Gloria and her partner Ana. Mo's ex Harriet decided to have a child, Isabel, as a single mother. Sparrow has a child, J.R. (Jiao Raizel) with Stuart. Finally, Jasmine enters the strip with a child, Jonas, who begins to transition and takes the name Janis; after dating Ginger for a while, Jasmine settles down with Lois and they start raising Janis together.
** Raffi and Stella's have a classmate who is the adopted daughter of a gay male couple.

* EroticEating: It's been known to occur in the bonus story sections of the collections, which could devote more space to such things than the regular instalments. For instance in ''Hot, Throbbing Dykes To Watch Out For'' Sydney prepares a tiramisù to entice Mo on one of their early dates (once Mo overcomes her misgivings against dairy, sugar and chocolate, things take off quite satisfyingly), and in ''Post-Dykes To Watch Out For'' Clarice and Toni can be seen cavorting in bed with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup.

Removing reference to defunct trope

* FoeYay: In-universe example: Soon after Ginger's conservative student Cynthia is introduced, we see her verbally sparring with Ginger and her girlfriend Samia. Lois and Mo comment, "She may think you're traitors, but she wants both of you." "'''Bad.'''" Cynthia later comes out and exhibits a pattern of falling in love with leftist students.
* FreudianTrio: Housemates Ginger (Mind[=/=]Superego), Lois (Body[=/=]Id) and Sparrow (Soul[=/=]Ego).

* {{Transgender}}: A trans woman character named Jillian was introduced in 1994; she hung out for a few strips. Later, a trans man character named Jerry was introduced; Lois developed a crush on him, which later moved on to a fairly durable friendship. Finally, Jasmine's child Jonas became more and more insistent about identifying as a girl, and eventually started living full-time, taking hormones, and identifying as Janis, with Lois's support. Also, for a while, irritated by Mo's transphobic attitude, Lois lets her believe for a short time that she is transitioning, asking to be called "Louis." After Mo slowly comes to accept this, Lois tells her the truth, although she does identify as genderqueer ("I enjoy being a girl... in a perverse kind of way.").

* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: Averted with many characters. Mo, who has a fairly boyish figure, is occasionally mistaken for a male; on one funny occasion this was when at the launch of a new Literature/HarryPotter novel at Madwimmin's she read the new book out to a group of children who thought she was dressing up as Harry and complained that she was lacking his trademark scar. Lois on the other hand, enjoys dressing up as male, and her drag king costumes will obviously involve the masculine version of this trope.

* DecompositeCharacter: Naomi, a Jewish lesbian, was initially set up as a major character, but quickly fizzled out, and a plotline around her coming out as bisexual similarly went nowhere. To compensate, later strips reveal Thea is Jewish, and Sparrow eventually discovers she's bi.

* BlandNameProduct: Does this constantly to [[ParodyNames parodic effect]]: "medusa.com," "Bounders Books & Muzak," "Bunns & Noodle," "Bed Bath & Bite Me," "Papaya Republic," etc. When Lois, Ginger and Sparrow have a potluck, Sydney brings a bucket of Florida Fried Fowl. This troper's personal favourite was a publishing house, "Furrier Sprout & Genoux."
