* MythologyGag: In one issue, Sonic has to deal with a group of Sonic duplicates out to muddy his reputation. The last of these duplicates looks exactly like Sonic did back in the Genesis games.

* CutShort: Which is a shame since the comic was only just then building up a real plot.

* MeaningfulName: El Gran Gordo (EGG)

* FriendlyEnemy: Sonic's and Eggman's relationship. When Eggman's not launching an evil scheme, the two are practically ''friends''. They have civilized conversations, face off in (mostly) friendly competitions... Sonic even [[MoralDissonance helps Dr. Eggman get back in control of his secret lair so he can get back to launching his evil schemes again.]] When Eggman shows up for a party, nobody bats an eye, either. Eggman's just the friendly neighborhood supervillain. Maybe it has something to do with his total incompetance...

* GoKartingWithBowser: Sonic and Eggman civily compete in competitions like wrestling and pet shows when they aren't battling for the fate of the Earth.

* FunWithAcronyms: S.O.N.I.C.X.

A comic series created by ArchieComics, {{ComicBook/Sonic X}} could be considered a SpinOff of the long-running {{ComicBook/Sonic the Hedgehog}} comic book series, taking place in an alternate universe that is ostensibly the same one seen in the anime SonicX (some time before the finale of the first series). The story, (as we're reminded at [[OpeningNarration the beginning of every issue]]) is that Sonic and his friends have been transported to Earth by one of Dr. Eggman's machines, and now they do battle with the doctor here, while hanging around the house of the insanely wealthy [[TheScrappy Chris Thorndyke]] on their off time.

* CaffieneBulletTime: Bokkun becomes very quick and very crazy when he's had too much sugar.

* {{Crossover}}: Shadow's battle with Metal Sonic stretching across 3 comics: starting in ''Sonic X'' #40, passing through ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehog'' #196 (give or take) and ending in ''SonicUniverse'' #1.

* OddlySmallOrganization: S.O.N.I.C.X. tries to be a NebulousEvilOrganization, but being a very small and inept group of Sonic haters makes them more ComicRelief than anything.

* LoveAtFirstSight: Eggman loses his mind for Ella in issue #34. [[http://en.sonicscanf.org/comics/sonic-x/34/ No, really.]]

* DidNotDoTheResearch: In the "No Thanks For The Memories!" arc, the simulated classic-style Eggman is referred to as Professor Gerald. Again, this was ''before'' Ian Flynn and the comic's subsequent [[GrowingTheBeard beard-growing]], but a mistake like this is kind of major.

The series lasted for forty issues before the executives at Archie decided to pull the plug. It focused more on lighthearted slapstick and fun than ongoing storylines, though it did have a few, such as the evil organization S.O.N.I.C.X. and Eggman's stint as the beloved lucha libre El Gran Gordo. Unfortunately, as a result of the early cancellation, things were wrapped up hastily, and a planned conclusion of the El Gran Gordo storyline (and assumedly others) never saw the light of day.

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: Eggman gets quite a few during his stint as El Gran Gordo. These include standing up against Sonic longer than any of his robots ever did, and [[spoiler: defeating heavyweight champion Andes the Ginormous with his own strength and a little encouragement.]]
* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: From Chris of all people. Telling [[strike:Dr. Eggman]] El Gran Gordo "I believe in you" inspires Eggman not to give up, and to [[spoiler: defeat Andes the Ginormous.]] El Gran Gordo never surrenders, indeed.

* GrowingTheBeard: Prior to Ian Flynn, the comic was essentially a collection of extra stories based on the Sonic X anime, getting only minor acclaim. About midway through, Ian arrived and the comic shifted its tone, turning to a [[RootingForTheEmpire wacky collection of stories starring Eggman and his robots]], though Sonic continues to play a big role. The comic's popularity skyrocketed, with most fans agreeing this change was for the better. Sadly, it was TooGoodToLast by this point.

* NightmareFuel: The Boos, and their victims who were possessed at the time, including Chris and Cream's mothers. I mean, look at their faces!

* RootingForTheEmpire: About halfway through the comic's run, most issues feature Dr. Eggman as the main character, focusing on his schemes, character insight, and interaction with his minions. Sonic's top billing at this point becomes entirely incidental.

* TheScrappy: Chris Thorndyke is just as much the Scrappy in the comics as he is in the tv series, still whining over how he hates being rich and being treated differently, and still insisting he's got no real friends even though he has plenty.
* TooGoodToLast: Canceled after forty issues, in spite of plans for future storylines.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotAwesome: Eggman becomes a lucha libre and an overnight superstar, much to the delight of [[RootingForTheEmpire his fans.]]
