* NiceGuy: Despite his intimidating features, he's actually really nice and probably the most heroic of all main "Yu" characters who would drop anything to help a friend or person in need. Towards the end of 5D's, he was even willing to sacrifice his own life to save Neo Domino City. In fact, out of all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonists, he's the only one to have never submitted to darkness of any kind, or, in [[Anime/YuGiOhVRAINS Yusaku's]] case, as of this writing, being a {{Jerkass}}. DoubleSubverted towards the finale, [[spoiler: when Z-One, through numerous hints, is revealed to be an aged Yusei from the future....except not. He's just a doppelganger from a future beyond Yusei who surgically and psychologically conditioned himself to become who he saw as a symbol of hope: Yusei]].

* TheAce: Nearly defeated the reigning KingOfGames Jack Atlas in the 5th episode of the series, and officially dethroned him about 20 episodes later. Defeating Jack alone made him a world renown duelist with duelist from various other countries seeking him out ''just'' to duel him or ask him to be a part of their team for an upcoming Tag Team Duel Tournament. People wanted him so badly that they were willing to beat the daylights out of him so they ''kidnap and brainwash'' him into being a part of their team. About 200 years later in Z-ONE's timeline he was praised as a legendary duelist/hero who toured the world, won various duel tournaments wherever he went, and inspired ''many'' duelist in the generations that proceeded his own.

He uses a Blackwing deck. His signature cards are Blackwing Armor Master and Black-Winged Dragon.

* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Yusei and Jack's blue. While Jack is more of a BigHam and more HotBlooded, he's often more reserved outside those moments. Crow...is not.

* BoobsOfSteel: Aki is evidently well-endowed, yet a competent duelist in her own right.

* CoolBike: He replaced Yusei's first D-Wheel with his own Wheel of Fortune, which is basically a monowheel, but it is surprisingly capable of doing crazy stunts like high jumps or driving on ceilings. It is also capable of drive backwards, allowing Jack to face his opponent's directly, something he commonly does.

* FirstNameBasis: Prior to her HeelFaceTurn, she was generally referred to by family name, except by Divine and her parents. During her final duel with Yusei, the latter starts to call her by her given name to reach out for her. Since then, the main characters call her by her given name, except Jack.

* LastNameBasis: Prior to her HeelFaceTurn, everyone but Divine and her parents called her "Izayoi". With her HeelFaceTurn, the main characters refer to her by her given name. Except Jack who still calls her "Izayoi".

* ContraltoOfDanger: It was deeper back before her redemption (especially when she would completely let go of her temper and powers), but it's still there.

* BadassBaritone: In the Japanese version, at least. His English dub voice is rather higher pitched.

He uses an aggro beatdown-themed Resonator deck focused on summoning his signature card, Red Demon's Dragon.

* AttackAttackAttack: He definitely isn't stupid, but his deck focuses on offense and packs several anti-defense strategies -- most prominently with his ace card, Red Demon's Dragon. He also has a tendency to accuse defensive players of being cowards. Given that his deck is built around being nearly relentless in assault, it would probably be classified as the best defense is a good offense. The logic in it is that you can't really do anything to him if you have no cards to put up defense against his gigantic demons of terror. Then he steamrolls you in style while maintaining his flashy deck. Also, since he is a showman, he's really not going to impress anyone by using the [[DeathOfAThousandCuts turtling]] strategy.

* CallingYourAttacks: A staple of the franchise, but the name of his Red Demon's Dragon's Absolute Power Force even became the title of a booster set, featuring Saviour Demon Dragon on the cover.

* FireIsMasculine: Jack Atlas is a HotBlooded, prideful duelist in contrast to the more sensitive, humble and even-tempered Yusei. His [[SignatureMon Red Demon's Dragon]] is the only Signer Dragon with a fire-based move and several of its alternate forms and support cards have fire and heat themed names (" Jeweled Demon Dragon - Red Daemon", "Crimson Fire", "Red Nova"). Jack later gains access to a power called "Burning Soul" which allows him to take on the powers of the Crimson Dragon itself to create Crimson Nova Dragon.

* InvincibleHero: He never loses in a standing Duel. Yes, and this includes Yusei.

* MirrorMatch: When he faces an impostor who has a replica of his Deck (Red Demon's Dragon included).

* RedEyesTakeWarning: When he uses his 'Burning Soul' powers and robs the strongest ''Earthbound God'' of its power, melding it with Red Demons' Dragon to create Scar-Red Nova Dragon.

** This trope was played straight with Team Unicorn and Team New World, although he still managed to look good both times; against Team Unicorn, despite being the first duelist to lose in the match, he had to push his broken D-Wheel to the pitstop by himself despite being injured; with Team New World, Jack had already taken down two of the three opponents, even if they let him win to give José an advantage. With Team Taiyou, Jack wasn't losing, but he still attempted a TakingYouWithMe on the Second Wheeler Jinbei because he noticed that their strategy was off and suspicious and tried to take the team out as fast as possible. With Team Ragnarok, Jack was already physically and mentally exhausted from his intense duel against Dragan and he had only few LP left, thus he was left unprepared of Team Ragnarok's team strategy of using each other's Nordic Gods which heavily benefit from the W.R.G.P. rules.

* ShamefulStrip: Episode 8 has him subdued by the guards and his clothes stripped from him leaving him in just a pair of boxers. Afterwards his arms and legs are cuffed to a table while tests are run on him while being electrocuted.

Not to mention all the ShipTease with Yusei, which is to this day considered the sweetest the franchise has gotten romance-wise. A 2018 popularity poll showed Black Rose Dragon to be the most popular monster in the series, beating out Stardust Dragon and all its upgraded forms by over a thousand votes. Its unique design, powerful abilities, and being used by one of the most popular female characters in the entire franchise all account for this. * NoPronunciationGuide: While the English dub pronounces Signer as "sign-er", the Japanese dub makes it clear that it is supposed to be "Sig-ner", the I being the most notable difference.

* UnkemptBeauty: A variant. Aki is often seen with a rather messy hair whenever the limiter tied to her hair is removed. During her duel with Misty, this goes to another level when Divine uses a TriggerPhrase to fully awaken her PsychicPowers, causing her already messy hair to grow at a ''waist length''.

* MagicIsFeminine: Aki and Runa are the only two female Signers and the only ones who can communicate with Duel Monsters and materialize them into the physical world. Aki is even likened to a witch and has the nick name "Black Rose Witch" in the Japanese version of the anime.
