* FanNickname: He has never actually been referred to as "Dark Glass" on the show; this was a name used by fansites and message boards until Bruno showed up.

* NonActionGuy: Unlike the others Bruno doesn't appear to be a duelist, despite his knowledge of the game mechanics. He's also not very assertive and claims to detest violence, so naturally he's been on the receiving end of physical abuse more than once. At least until he gets GlowingEyesOfDoom.
** Of course it's then subverted when he turns out to be "Dark Glass", and it's Bruno's own personality who duels Yusei in the Ark Cradle arc.

* SplitPersonality: Bruno and Dark Glass are different personalities, and he apparently doesn't know about his other personality until he gets his memories back. As Antinomy, Bruno decides to act as a StealthMentor to Yusei and pretends to be a villain.

* {{Badass}}: He's defeated a monster previously thought to be unbeatable (Zushin), went head to head with all three Nordic gods and came out on top, defeated Yliaster, Dark Signers, and Z-One, who's basically a PhysicalGod... Yusei's got badass cred to spare.

* BroughtDownToNormal: Aki briefly in Season 3 with her psychic powers, all of the Signers at the end of the series when they lose their Signer marks (although Aki and Ruka should still retain their separate powers.)

** Yusei, Jack, Aki, Ruka and Rua have one or two cards that are drawn and designed by children who won the ''YGO'' drawing contest. Each of them use their card in an episode and, at the end of the episode, they announce the respective winner of the contest and then they tell the viewers that they will use those cards in the future and take care of them. With the exception of Yusei, who got two cards and uses them in only a few episodes, the others never use those cards again. Most ironically is Jack, who tells the viewers that he will use his Chaos King Archfiend in the future, despite the fact that he only borrowed it and had already given it back to Kazama in the same episode.

** In Season 3, Aki, Rua, and Ruka form a secondary Power Trio.
* ProtagonistPowerUpPrivileges: Yusei and his [[TheLancer lancer]] Jack have no less than three alternate forms of their Signer Dragons, while only one other Signer (Rua) has one, and then only one. Yusei eventually uses the other five Signer Dragons to (Limit Over Accel) Synchro Summon Shooting Quasar Dragon, an evolution of his own Signer Dragon.

* TheTeam: Team 5D's is the hero team of the series. Their leader Yusei is the last wheeler, Jack is the first wheeler, Crow is the second wheeler, Aki is the benchwarmer, and Ruka, Rua, and Bruno are the pit crew.

Rua is the lively and blundering older twin. He is generally overconfident (though this changes slightly after an incident at the Arcadia Movement) and is prone to crying when he loses. Ruka is the more calm and collected of the two. She is a Signer, bearing the Rear Claw Birthmark. She has had the ability to speak to spirits since an incident at the age of 3, where she fell into a coma and her mind lived in the Spirit Realm for a month. This power peaks when she duels, but it also tires her out.

Ruka has a tendency to point out the flaws in her brother's plans, which gets on his nerves, but despite this they both deeply care for one another - Rua was always by her side while she was comatose, and gave himself the task of protecting her, even going so far as to face a Dark Signer so she didn't have to get hurt. It's through this Dark Signer that Ruka finally receives her Signer dragon, Ancient Fairy Dragon.

In the W.R.G.P. arc Rua and Ruka are more social, spending more time outdoors and attending the local Duel Academia. Both twins learn to ride the D-Boards, the skateboard equivalent to the D-Wheel. The twins became part of Team 5D's pit crew, mostly staying by the sidelines. They later go up upon the Ark Cradle, dueling Aporia with Jack. Despite his best efforts every action Rua takes is thrown back up in his face, hurting Ruka and Jack in the process as Aporia attempts to visit upon him his own despair. Rua is briefly killed by Aporia, but manages to be revived with the help of Ancient Fairy Dragon and the Crimson Dragon. It's then that he's given a new birthmark bonded to the Rear claw, the "Heart" of the Crimson Dragon. Rua also receives a Signer Dragon, "Life Stream Dragon", which is the true form of Rua's Power Tool Dragon.

At the end of the series, Rua and Ruka leave Neo Domino City to live with their parents. [[TimeSkip Eight years later]] Rua is working his way up to be Riding Duel Champion, and Ruka attends a university in London.

* ActionGirl: Though she doesn't really get any spotlight duels (and she's gotten fewer duels than the others), Ruka has only lost a single duel, and that to one of [[BigBadEnsemble Yliaster]]. She later proved instrumental in defeating Aporia.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Rather, Annoying Twin Sibling. Rua to Ruka. Much moreso in the 4kids dub.
* AscendedFanboy: Rua was completely burg-a-durg over Jack for a long time.

A key example is his Duel with Yusei, where he assumed that his two Deformer Magnens were an unbreakable combo and Yusei would just let him burn down all his Life Points with Chakkan's effect.
