Ralph is the PunchClockVillain of the popular arcade game ''Fix-It Felix Jr.'' In it, his job is to destroy an apartment building that the hero, Felix, must fix. After 30 years of doing the same job, Ralph decides he doesn't want to be a bad guy anymore, and sets out on a game-jumping quest to become a hero.

!!Tropes:

* AlliterativeName
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: The Nicelanders in ''Fix-It Felix Jr.'' shun him; Felix is the only one in the game to treat him with any sort of respect. Outside of the game, the other arcade villains are decent to him, so it's not like he's friendless, but the cold treatment he gets from the Nicelanders is enough to make him frustrated with his lot in life, and fuels his quest to get a medal.
* AntiVillain: Ralph is only a villain in the sense that he plays one, and is otherwise a decent (if clumsy) guy. This also applies to his role in the game, where [[DrivenToVillainy his forest home is demolished]] to build an apartment complex for the Nicelanders, sending Ralph into a wrecking frenzy.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: To Fix-It Felix, Jr. when Felix comes down on him because of the troubles he'd been through after Ralph game jumped, making him realize he really ''wasn't'' being a good friend to him.
* BeingEvilSucks: The Nicelanders don't respect him for a job that he has to do to keep his game going, and he's stuck living in the dump while they get a nice apartment building.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Vanellope.
* BlessedWithSuck / CursedWithAwesome: His massive fists. Because of them, he laments his propensity to wreck everything, though he does eventually find ways to use them for good.
* ButtMonkey: Ralph endures a lot of AmusingInjuries and other such abuse over the course of the film.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "I'm gonna wreck it!"
* ClassicalAntiHero: Outside of his game character, he is an AntiHero of the classical/loser variety.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite his intimidating appearance and in-game role as hulking, destructive, Bad Guy, outside gameplay he's very sweet and kind.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: As demonstrated quite clearly [[EstablishingCharacterMoment at the anniversary party]] and elsewhere throughout the movie (particularly in the car factory when he breaks first the oven pump, then the various frosting and decoration makers).
* DoesNotLikeShoes: His outfit doesn't have shoes, and when he wears a tux at the end he still doesn't have shoes to go with it.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: It annoys him that chocolate is the flavor of the mud of his cake-model the Nicelanders use for their anniversary cake. It becomes a bit of a RunningGag in ''Sugar Rush''.
* DrivenByEnvy[=/=]FreudianExcuse: Not nearly as evil as most examples, but it's his jealousy of Felix's fame and popularity as a hero that eventually pushes him to abandon his game, and his position as a villain, to seek a better situation elsewhere.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: The Nicelanders, Gene in particular, see him as just "the guy who wrecks the building", even though his role in the game is far more substantial than theirs. Ralph himself points this out to Gene.
* DungeonBypass: How he gets the medal from ''Hero's Duty''. The player is supposed to fight their way to the top of the tower from the inside. Ralph instead climbs the side of the building, bypassing all the hazards in the process. If only he'd watched his step at the end there... It also counts as TakeAThirdOption, since he made use of his programmed skill set, which is climbing the sides of buildings and smashing windows.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: While Ralph obtains his medal fairly early on (see DungeonBypass) his victory is hollow and he doesn't gain the recognition and acceptance he craves until he [[HeelFaceTurn completes his turn]] and saves the day.
* EurekaMoment: [[spoiler:After he finally gets to stay in the penthouse, he notices Vanellope's game - and the fact that she's ''painted on the side of the cabinet''.]]
* {{Expy}}: Ralph himself is basically a human Franchise/DonkeyKong.
* FacePalm: When teaching Vanellope how to drive, he can be seen doing one when she rams her kart into a pretzel column.
* FieryRedhead: In the game ''Fix-It Felix Jr.''
* GentleGiant: Ralph's big and scary-looking, but outside of work he's a nice and genuinely caring man.
* GuestFighter: Ralph is a playable character in ''Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed'', presumably in return for Sonic's appearance in the film.
* HomelessHero: In his game, the forest he lived in was destroyed to make way for the Niceland Apartments.
* HotBlooded: Ralph describes himself as quick to anger in the opening, though this appears to be in the context of his own game.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: The Huge Guy to Vanellope's Tiny Girl.
* InkSuitActor: Apart from the brown eyes, [[http://blog.flicks.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/ralph-and-JCR-567x288.jpg he has quite some similarities with John C. Reilly.]]
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Vanellope. He's thirty and she's nine, according to WordOfGod. They're also from different generations of games, to boot.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: How WordOfGod describes his relationship with Vanellope.
* MadeOfIron: He can be thrown several stories from the roof of an apartment building, slam face first into a concrete floor, and he'll still be ready to tear some more stuff up in the next level. [[spoiler:In the climax, he survives a terminal velocity skydive into the Mentos-filled caldera of Diet Cola Mountain, though he wouldn't have survived the resulting eruption.]]
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: In his game, Ralph is a hulking, raging brute that fully intends to smash a building full of innocent tenants. When the game isn't being played, he is a sweet, gentle, and well-spoken person who appears to have a friendly and professional relationship with the other video game characters. Interestingly enough, the game actually hints at this in the intro sequence, where Ralph is presented as happy and friendly and just taking a nap in a tree trunk only to wake up with his home forest destroyed, at which point he goes [[BerserkButton berserk]].
* MegatonPunch: Much like how Felix carries his fix-''anything'' ability across all games, Ralph's chief ability is his ability to wreck ''anything'' from monsters to entire buildings with his mighty blows, coming in awful handy later on in his adventures.
* MightyGlacier: Powerful and sturdy, but relatively slow on ground, [[{{Foil}} in stark contrast]] to [[FragileSpeedster Felix's]] video game stats.
* MikeNelsonDestroyerOfWorlds: His carelessness almost brings both ''Fix-It Felix Jr.'' and ''Sugar Rush'' to an end.
* MisunderstoodLonerWithAHeartOfGold: No friends, big heart.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After finally getting his medal and returning home, [[spoiler:he finds that Felix went looking for him during his extended absence and never returning, and that his game is due to be unplugged in the morning.]]
* NiceGuy: To a more natural degree than Felix, since he's not above showing anger or annoyance.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: The main conflicts of the movie are mostly his fault, although he never intended to do any damage. However, abandoning his game, running around ''Hero's Duty'' without any idea what he's doing, and [[spoiler:accidentally bringing a Cy-Bug into ''Sugar Rush'']] causes a hell of a lot of trouble.
%%
%% Being discussed on the discussion page.
%% * PapaWolf: As it said on the main page, Ralph will do ''anything'' to protect Vanellope. [[spoiler:He even nearly gives up his life to save her.]]
%%
* PermaStubble: Living in the dump doesn't give you access to a razor, so this is kind of inevitable. It's not very visible as far as Perma Stubbles go, in fact, his 8-bit appearance lacks it entirely.
* PrimaryColorChampion: Inverted; he's his game's antagonist and wears orange and brown. Contrast with Felix's blue clothes.
* PunchClockVillain: When the arcade's closed, he's a really nice guy, but the Nicelanders don't treat him any better.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: He basically does this to wreck things in-universe.
* RedheadedBully: {{Invoked|Trope}} with his character design.
* RedIsHeroic: His dominant color is red.
* RedOni: To Felix's Blue.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The Savvy Guy to Vanellope's Energetic Girl; a platonic example.
* [[spoiler:SpannerInTheWorks]]: [[spoiler:If Ralph hadn't game-jumped for a medal, Turbo's scheme to replace Vanellope in ''Sugar Rush'' would have never been exposed.]]
* SuperStrength: Aside from the obvious strength it takes for him to keep wrecking the apartment building, he is able to split a jawbreaker which Vanellope says is unbreakable, lift and trash much of the racing stadium, [[spoiler:smash Vanellope's kart]], and more. [[ChekhovsSkill This is important in the climax]].
* ThereWasADoor: He crashes through a lot of walls in this film.
* TopHeavyGuy: Ralph's legs are really stumpy in comparison to the bulk that composes the rest of his body. Heck, his ''hands'' are bigger than his feet.
* TheVillainMakesThePlot: In-universe: ''Fix-It Felix Jr.'' is unplayable without Ralph there.
* VillainProtagonist: {{Subverted}}. While his game character is a villain, Ralph himself is not.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Vanellope. The two are constantly trading insults and glares but do care for each other.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: He's Wreck-It Ralph. He wrecks things. It's what he ''does''. But he gets a lot accomplished by getting creative with ''how'' he wrecks things.
* YouNeedABreathMint: According to Vanellope, anyway. King Candy makes a similar comment:
-->'''King Candy:''' Is that a threat I smell? *cringes* Oh, beyond the halitosis you so obviously suffer from!

Despite their roles in the game, he seems friendly toward Ralph after hours, and is beloved by the game's characters. When Ralph abandons the game, Felix sets out to find him and bring him back.

[- (Official bio) -] [[AC:Fix-It Felix, Jr.: The All-Around Good Guy]][[hottip:*: Felix is the popular star of Fix-It Felix Jr. and Niceland's hammer-wielding maintenance man who's beloved by all. When he is not busy fixin' all of Ralph's wreckin', this gold-medal-winning good guy is being showered with kisses, praise and pies from his tenants. Hardwired for niceness, anything other than being "The Good Guy" just doesn't compute.]]

!!Tropes:

* TheAce: Adored in-game as a perfect hero, and he's never seen ''losing'' a game.
* {{Adorkable}}: Jiminy Jaminy, is he ever this.
* AlliterativeName
* AmazonChaser: He falls for Calhoun after a classic LoveAtFirstPunch scenario.
* AmbidextrousSprite: Felix has one in his own game and is shown doing the motions outside his 8-bit form.
* AncestralWeapon: Ralph mentions that Felix got his hammer from his father in the Bad Anon meeting.
* BlessedWithSuck: His ability to [[MrFixit magically fix things]] becomes this when [[spoiler:he's trapped in a cell and thus can't break out. Literally.]]
-->'''Felix:''' [[PowerIncontinence Why do I fix]] [[EpicFail everything I touch?!]]
* BlueOni: To Ralph's red.
* BroughtToYouByTheLetterS: His cap has the letters "FF" on it.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "I can fix it!"
* ChangeTheUncomfortableSubject: Throughout the anniversary party he keeps trying to make the peace between the Nicelanders and Ralph through avoidance and subject changing.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Felix is determined to fix what Ralph breaks, even when risking his life. He also stays and risks his life to help Vanellope, despite only meeting her just a few minutes before.
* CovertPervert: He is [[FreezeFrameBonus seen briefly staring]] at [[MostCommonSuperpower Calhoun's chest]] when she barks at him ("Wrong! Viruses DO NOT STOP!").
* CripplingOverspecialization: He eventually discovers that his fixing powers aren't so universally useful as he thought they were.
* DodgeTheBullet: Dodges the ''Hero's Duty'' soldiers' bullets via WallJump. Particularly justified in his case since in his game, dodging stuff is half the gameplay.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Of the more sympathetic, non-[[StalkerWithACrush stalker]] variety to Calhoun.
* DropTheHammer: Subverted. His golden hammer is the only piece of equipment he carries, but it's the very opposite of a weapon since it can only be used to fix things.
* EveryTenThousandPoints: In his game it's 25,000.
* {{Expy}}: Felix is an imitation of [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]] (or, as he was called back in ''VideoGame/DonkeyKong'', Jumpman).
* ExtremeDoormat: He seems to want to please the Nicelanders all of the time; also easily caves in to letting Ralph into the party. [[CharacterDevelopment He does grow out of this]].
* FragileSpeedster: [[{{Foil}} In stark contrast]] to [[MightyGlacier Ralph's]] video game stats, [[WeakButSkilled he's comparatively weak but extremely fast]].
* FriendlyEnemy: Felix is the only one in the game to treat Ralph with any respect. He also is genuinely worried when Ralph disappears from their game, and leads the search for him. Even when the other Nicelanders want him to, he can't bring himself to be dismissive of Ralph, and most of the problems between them occur not because Felix doesn't appreciate Ralph, but because Felix legitimately doesn't understand what Ralph is going through. After he finds out, he agrees to help in a heartbeat. He also calls Ralph "brother".
* GoodOldWays: He's humble, somewhat folksy, rather antiquated in his speech, [[GoshDangItToHeck never really swears]], and has a blue-collar uniform for a blue-collar job. It really couldn't be more obvious that he's the good guy.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: Calhoun hits Felix and Felix tells her it's okay because he can heal himself with his hammer.
* GoshDangItToHeck: To the point where he tells Ralph "I don't need to do ''boo''" and immediately apologizes for his "potty mouth."
* HealingShiv: Felix's hammer can heal ''himself'' outside the game.
* AHeroToHisHometown: Everyone in his game loves him. ''Outside'' the game, he's mistrusted and put into dangerous situations.
* HugeGirlTinyGuy: Calhoun is twice as tall as Felix, although she is rather small in her own game.
* IdealHero: As a contrast to Ralph, Felix is a very polite, can-do guy who works tirelessly for the sake of others.
** PuritySue: [[EnforcedTrope Enforced]] if not [[ExaggeratedTrope exaggerated]] to [[ParodySue parody]] level. Deconstructed in which we see his being ''too'' nice as a [[ExtremeDoormat major character flaw]].
* InkSuitActor: Make him a bit taller and leaner, and you've got Jack [=McBrayer=] in a hat and overalls. Also in personality.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Felix did not realize how unsatisfied Ralph was with his situation until he gets a taste of it himself. That Ralph is a NiceGuy and was so overly polite that he never says anything about it directly didn't help matters.
-->'''Felix:''' You don't know what it's like to be rejected and treated like a criminal!\\
'''Ralph:''' ...Yes, I do. That's every day of my life.
** He also tells Calhoun that she's "One dynamite gal", unaware that [[spoiler:that was her fiance's AffectionateNickname for her]].
* IronButtMonkey: [[spoiler:He can fix anything, including injuries from a flurry of punches to his face.]]
* LegacyCharacter: He gets his hammer from his dad, who presumably was the original Fix-It Felix.
* LoveAtFirstPunch: He's pretty smitten with Calhoun after she had just shot at and kicked him in the gut.
* LoveHurts: [[spoiler:When Felix comes down on Ralph when he rescues him, it's less because of the trouble he caused and more because of Calhoun's rejection of him.]]
* LuminescentBlush: Once he starts falling for Calhoun. She gives him the "honeyglow."
* MagicTool: Felix's hammer can fix anything, right down to his face. Unfortunately, that's all it does.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The Feminine Boy to Calhoun's Masculine Girl. He uses a hammer that heals things, while Calhoun uses a gun that kills things.
* MayDecemberRomance: With Calhoun. While they're both shown as adults, Felix has been around for 30 years longer than Calhoun has.
* MeaningfulName: "Felix" means [[BornLucky "happy and prosperous"]] in Latin. The "Fix-It" part of his name also counts, seeing as fixing things is pretty much his entire life.
* MrExposition: [[spoiler:He explains to Sergeant Calhoun what the phrase "Going Turbo" means. Justified since Calhoun's game just got plugged in a week prior to the events of the movie.]]
* MrFixit: ''Duh''.
* NiceGuy: Even after he's had a seriously hard day and is rather rattled up [[spoiler:after being rejected by Calhoun]], the worst he can muster up when trying to be mad at Ralph for being gone is that he is "so, so... cross" with him. It seems real anger just isn't part of his programming.
%% * NiceHat
%% * OhCrap: [[EverythingTryingToKillYou Has quite a few of these moments]].
* OppositesAttract: With Calhoun. [[spoiler:He marries her at the end of the movie.]]
* PercussiveMaintenance: It's literally Felix's power: anything he hits with his magic hammer is fixed. Unfortunately, this makes trying to be destructive a counterproductive task, at best.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Unlike the nicelanders, who are a bunch of [[{{Jerkass}} jerkasses]] to Ralph, Felix's major flaw is his inability to be a mediator between the two parties.
* PowerIncontinence: See BlessedWithSuck above.
* PunchClockHero: Albeit one who loves his job and would be one off-hours as well, given he heads up the search for Ralph when he goes missing.
* SecondLove: To Calhoun.
* SpeakingSimlish: Speaks Q*bert's language to communicate with him.
-->"Stand by, my [[VideoGame/QBert Q*bert-ese]] is a little rusty."
* StealthPun: His cap has the letters "FF" on it. FF is hexadecimal for 255, the ''{{cap}}'' on values that can be stored in 8 bits.
* ThatMakesMeFeelAngry: When he catches up with Ralph after a miserable and exhausting chase, all he can say is "I'm so ''cross'' with you!"
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: The Tiny Guy to Calhoun's Huge Girl.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Pie. In his game it gives him invincibility.[[note]]On the movie website version of ''Fix-It Felix Jr.'', which once was "beta code", it gives him an extra life.[[/note]]
* WallJump: Does one of these to avoid [[DodgeTheBullet bullets]] at some point.

[[caption-width-right:350: "It's 'make-your-mamas-proud' time!"]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' [[Series/{{Glee}} Jane Lynch]]

Sergeant Calhoun is an important NPC of the FirstPersonShooter ''Hero's Duty'', the first game Ralph visits on his quest to become a hero. In the game, she, along with the player, battle alien invaders called "Cy-Bugs". She later teams up with Felix to get Ralph back to his game.

[- (Official bio) -] [[AC:Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun: One Mean SpaceMarine]][[hottip:*: In the Sci-fi battle zone of ''Hero's Duty'', Sergeant Calhoun is more than just a pretty face - she is the tough-as-nails, take-charge leader who fights for humanity's freedom. When she's not offering in-game intel, she's training her troops for the next attack wave. This unrelenting commander is driven by a personal vendetta and will stop at nothing to protect the player and the arcade from a virulent Cy-Bug invasion.]]

!!Tropes:

* ActionGirl: On top of being a sergeant, she uses a rifle, pistol and explosives throughout the movie.
* AllThereInTheManual: Her programmed back-story is never referenced in her game.
* AllThereInTheScript:
** She's never once called "Tamora" in the film itself. Her full name is only revealed in her official bio on [[http://disney.go.com/wreck-it-ralph Disney's website]].
** Her fiance's name (Dr. Brad Scott) is only revealed in an interactive comic.
* ApologeticAttacker: She is reluctant to continue smacking Felix around to bait the Laffy Taffies.
* {{Badass}}: She'd have to be to survive in a game like ''[[CrapsackWorld Hero's Duty]]'', where you've got Cy-Bugs on your tail coming at you from every direction imaginable. They don't call her ''Sergeant'' Calhoun for nothing.
* BerserkButton: Being called "[[spoiler:One Dynamite Gal]]".
%% * BoobsOfSteel: Justified though since every other female character in the film is barely a teen.
* BoyishShortHair: Short hair for a masculine ActionGirl.
* BrokenBird: Her initially cold personality is the result of losing her fiancé on their wedding day.
* {{Cosplay}}: Jane Lynch [[https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=544651632218349&set=a.414662251883955.117941.217155721634610&type=1&theater cosplayed]] [[https://twitter.com/janemarielynch/status/263714384231153665/photo/1 Sgt. Calhoun]] for Halloween 2012. The fandom ''loved'' this.
* CrazyPrepared: She happened to have a minigun-like heavy weapon in her wedding dress at her wedding in her backstory.
** Again in the ending, only even more egregiously.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]] and [[LampshadedTrope lampshaded]] when another character from her game says that "she's been programmed with the most tragic backstory ever". We don't know the full extent of her backstory, but we do know that her fiance was eaten by a Cy-Bug on their wedding day, which is pretty tragic in itself.
** Her fiance was eaten by a creature that turns into what it eats. You can see it start to transform before the camera cuts to her horrified face as she shoots it.
%% * DeadpanSnarker
* DefrostingIceQueen: She eventually warms up to Felix.
* {{Determinator}}: She means business when it comes to hunting down the loose Cy-Bug. Rightfully so, [[AIIsACrapshoot due to]] [[ExplosiveBreeder the nature of]] [[HordeOfAlienLocusts its programming]].
* DimensionalTraveler: Leaves ''Hero's Duty'' to hunt down the loose Cy-Bug.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: It's PlayedForLaughs since she is surrounded by male jarheads in her own game. Then she finds out she can't do any lasting harm to Felix. [[spoiler:{{Invoked}}, though, as Felix has to goad her into it to bait the Laffy Taffy, and she's initially very reluctant to actually punch him.]]
* DrillSergeantNasty:
-->"All right, ladies, the kitten whispers and tickle fights stop ''now''!"
* {{Expy}}: Cross [[{{Metroid}} Samus]] with a [[GoodIsNotNice Paragrade]] [[MassEffect Female Shepherd]], and keep the language family-friendly.
* TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest: She has... complications getting over her backstory, despite being shown becoming attracted to Felix.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: When she and Felix fall into a Nesquik Sand, Felix freaks out, and Calhoun then smacks some sense into him. She even says "get a hold of yourself." This also ends up saving them as it attracts the Laffy Taffy to them.
* GoodIsNotNice: She's a good gal in her own game, but she's certainly no pushover.
%% MOD NOTE: Hair of gold does not apply. Don't add it.
* HeartbrokenBadass: See ILetGwenStacyDie below.
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:When Felix tells Calhoun that she's "One dynamite gal", her eyes go wide and she suddenly flashes back to ''all'' of the times her fiance had told her that, up to where he died. When she snaps out of it, she tells Felix to [[GetOut beat it]].]]
* HiddenDepths: As well as her backstory showing a healthy love life she reacts to being told about Turbo with, "The selfish man is like a mangy dog chasing a cautionary tail." Nice bit of {{Foreshadowing}} there about a particular jealous dog.
* HoverBoard: One of her means of traveling.
* HugeGirlTinyGuy: The Huge Girl to Felix's Tiny Guy. She's actually pretty normally proportioned, if tall, whereas Felix has a cartoonish [[SuperMarioBros Mario]]-esque build.
* HyperspaceArsenal: Pulls out a [[GatlingGood minigun]] from underneath her wedding gown in a flashback.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: Her fiance was eaten by a Cy-Bug at the altar on their wedding day because she forgot to do a perimeter check. After this he becomes her [[TheLostLenore Lost Lenore]].
* ImpossibleHourglassFigure: Unless she has a ton of armor on her chest and hips and zero on her waist, her waist is tiny compared to the rest of her body.
* InformedAttractiveness: In-Universe, Felix becomes enamored with Calhoun. When seen from the perspective of the humans playing the game, Felix is a cartoonish 8-bit character, while Calhoun is rendered on modern hardware with a more realistic art-style that purported to represent the better graphics of later gaming generations when compared to previous ones. However, when seen from inside the game world, all of the characters are rendered in high resolution CG and this distinction is lost.
-->Look at that [[HighDefinition HIGH DEFINITION!]]
* InkSuitActor: She's basically a younger Jane Lynch in power armor.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Sure, she's rough. But her intentions are good.
* KnifeNut: She pulls out a bayonet when she's run out of ammo.
%% * TheLadette
* LastNameBasis: Refers to every character she talks to by their last name - including Felix and Ralph, who she refers to as Fix-It and Wreck-It.
* MaleGaze: Due to it being a PG animated film, it's subtle, but it's there in a few scenes, coupled with a SexyWalk.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The Masculine Girl to Felix's, comparatively, Feminine Boy.
* MayDecemberRomance: With Felix. While they're both shown as adults, Felix has been around for 30 years longer than Tamora has.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: She has the most realistic design of the main four characters, who are very cartoony. This is in keeping with the design of the game she comes from, which is also more realistic than the others.
* OhCrap: Gets a big one [[spoiler:when she finds the massive Cy-Bug nest underground.]]
-->[[spoiler:"Doomsday and Armageddon just had a baby, and it is ''ugly''!"]]
* OppositesAttract: Her and Felix.
* ParentheticalSwearing: Just about everything she says is in language that's very, very colorful but not ''technically'' dirty.
* PeekABangs
* PowerArmor: Though the power armor she wears is [[ChainmailBikini very light and form-fitting]] when compared to the power armor worn by the men from her game.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Both of her love interests in her own game and in the film fit the NiceGuy description (though [[DeathByOriginStory the former]] is only explored in the [[AllThereInTheManual "Hero's Duty" spin-off comic]].)
* TheSquadette: And the squad leader to boot!
* StatuesqueStunner: Felix fell in love with her tall, slender, realistic-looking design.
* {{Trigger}}: [[spoiler:She flips out at Felix and kicks him off the shuttle when he calls her "one dynamite gal"; this was the same term of endearment used by her [[DeathByOriginStory deceased fiance]], Brad.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A.
* TwentyFourHourArmor: Flashbacks show that she usually wears her battlesuit at all times, even during her dates with her fiancé. She only takes it off for her wedding.

[[caption-width-right:350: "Are you a hobo?"]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' SarahSilverman

Vanellope is a character from the RacingGame ''Sugar Rush'', the second game Ralph goes to on his quest to become a hero. She is a glitch and is rejected by the other characters in her game for it, but she still aspires to be a racer like them. Although she annoys Ralph at first, they form a sibling-like friendship.

[- (Official bio) -] [[AC:Vanellope Von Schweetz: Hard Candy]][[hottip:*: Known as "The Glitch", Vanellope is a pixelating programming mistake in the candy-coated cart-racing game ''Sugar Rush''. With a racer's spirit embedded in her coding, Vanellope is determined to earn her place in the starting lineup amongst the other racers. Only problem: the other racers don't want her or her glitching in the game. Years of rejection have left Vanellope with a wicked sense of humor and a razor-sharp tongue. However, somewhere beneath that hard shell is a sweet center just waiting to be revealed.]]

!!Tropes:

* [[spoiler:AbdicateTheThrone]]: [[spoiler:Less that and more Abolishing The Throne. When she becomes Princess Vanellope, she decides she doesn't want to be, abolishes the royalty and declares it a democracy, becoming President... although, she just 'declares herself' President. An actual democracy would have, you know, elections.]]
* {{Adorkable}}: Her cheeky little smile she gives when she shows off her pedal-powered kart to the other ''Sugar Rush'' racers definitely qualifies.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: The characters in ''Sugar Rush'' mercilessly bully her and keep her from participating in the races because she's a glitch, [[spoiler:but then it's revealed that their antagonism is due to King Candy manipulating the game's code and locking up everyone's memories of her.]]
* AntiHero: Vanellope is a bratty, self-centered, impulsive trickster, but once she and Ralph make their deal, she does everything in her power to help Ralph and save ''Sugar Rush''.
* [[spoiler:AscendedGlitch]]: [[spoiler:In-Universe, everyone wants to play as Vanellope in ''Sugar Rush'' because her glitching helps her win.]]
* BadassAdorable: She's a cute little kid, with bundles of energy and no lack of enthusiasm, but she also has an incredible knack for driving. An in-universe example, as Ralph even describes her as "an adorable winner".
* BadassDriver: Over the course of one night, Vanellope learns how to drive well enough to fight for first place in a race that started without her. [[spoiler:As the true ruler of ''Sugar Rush'', she's the best driver in the game, in fact!]]
* [[spoiler:BadassPrincess]]: [[spoiler:Vanellope's badass driving skills are paired with her true nature as the Princess of ''Sugar Rush''. It doesn't last: once she's restored to power, she relinquishes the monarchy for a democracy and becomes President.]]
* BrainyBrunette: Despite her brattiness, Vanellope is shown to be very clever and resourceful girl throughout the film.
* BrattyHalfPint: When Ralph first meets Vanellope, she spends the entire scene being unhelpful and giving him lip, and then steals his medal so that she can use it for her own purposes. Once we see how poorly the rest of the racers treat her, her behavior starts to make more sense.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:King Candy/Turbo manipulated the game's code, locked up everyone's memories away and made her]] a glitch, to be tormented by the other racers. Then, we have Ralph, her only friend, [[spoiler:crush the car that the two made together, thinking that by doing this, it'll save her]]. She starts sobbing uncontrollably.
* BrokenBird: Her bratty personality is the result of constant rejection from the other racers.
* ButtMonkey: Unlike Ralph, who people hate because he's a villain, she's hated because she's a glitch. Then the other racers wreck her car. And then Ralph [[spoiler:destroys her new car]]. And after that, King Candy [[spoiler:locks her up in the dungeon.]]
* [[spoiler:AChildShallLeadThem]]: [[spoiler:She becomes President of ''Sugar Rush'' at the end of the movie. She was also the reigning Princess before Turbo/King Candy usurped her.]]
* CoolLoser: Vanellope may be intelligent, enthusiastic, and a good dresser, but everyone else still looks down on her. This is twice-[[JustifiedTrope Justified]]: not only does everyone look down on her for being a glitch, but [[spoiler:King Candy rewrote the ''Sugar Rush'' code to make everyone dislike her.]]
* CursedWithAwesome: Vanellope is looked down upon because she's a glitch--aside from her appearance occasionally getting scrambled, she's also sometimes teleported several feet in an instant and can even affect the code of things she touches. King Candy says that the players will hate playing as her because of her glitchy nature. Of course, teleporting has its uses... [[spoiler:such as getting her and her car off a collision course with a wall, passing through a Cy-Bug army unharmed, and winning races.]]
* TheCutie: Just look at her.
* DeadpanSnarker: Given who voices her, not surprising.
** LittleMissSnarker
* {{Determinator}}: Wants to race no matter how.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Vanellope's glitching is almost treated as some kind of illness or disease similar to epilepsy or even Parkinson's Disease by the other racers. She even lies about it and calls it "pixlexia".
** On a slightly more meta note, Vanellope's character design is quite anime-esque (in fact, she resembles a chibi-fied version of the archetypical, generic anime heroine).
* DummiedOut: Her code is disconnected from the main code of ''Sugar Rush'', which prevents her from leaving the game. [[spoiler:She was never meant to be this way--Turbo removed her connections to the rest of the game in order to take her place. After ''Sugar Rush'' is reset, her connections are restored and she is once again able to leave.]]
* [[spoiler:EverythingIsBetterWithPrincesses]]: [[spoiler:For a few seconds until she decides it doesn't really suit her and decides to call herself "President Vanellope von Schweetz".]]
* EarnYourHappyEnding: She did.
* [[spoiler:EtTuBrute]]: [[spoiler:She feels distraught when Ralph seemingly betrays her and sells her out to King Candy for his medal and destroys her car, but he thought he was protecting her.]]
* {{Expy}}: In the same way that King Candy is an Expy of [[spoiler:TheWizardOfOz]] Vanellope can be seen as one for [[spoiler:Princess Ozma]] in the sense that [[spoiler:she's the rightful ruler of the kingdom and was ousted through trickery, and has no memory of who she really is. And like Ozma she's eventually restored to her rightful place]].
* [[spoiler:FallenPrincess]]: [[spoiler:She was the princess of ''Sugar Rush'' before Turbo deleted her code and made himself the king under the name King Candy. She became a glitch and everyone in ''Sugar Rush'' began to reject her and bully her and since she couldn't leave her game she had to live in a cave inside Diet Cola Mountain.]]
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her leggings don't match.
* FriendlessBackground: She doesn't have any friends or allies in her own game until Ralph comes along. [[spoiler:However, it's likely that she was popular with everyone while she was still the Princess of ''Sugar Rush'', before Turbo/King Candy took over her game and erased everyone's memories.]]
* TheGadfly: At the end of the movie, [[spoiler:the former bullies are asking her forgiveness, but she decides to screw with them by calling for their executions. She's kidding, of course, but she probably ''really really enjoyed'' watching Taffyta and the gang spend thirty seconds panicking out of their minds.]]
* [[spoiler:GameBreaker]]: [[spoiler:Post-movie she becomes the most popular playable racer in her game, likely due to having TeleportSpam powers in a kart racer.]]
* GenkiGirl: "I'm gonna learn to drive! I'm gonna learn to drive!"
* [[spoiler:[[ManintheIronMask Girl in the Iron Mask]]]]: [[spoiler:Not literally, but she fits the trope down to the letter, except for not being related to the one who usurped her.]]
* [[spoiler:GoodBadBug]]: [[spoiler:In-universe example. Vanellope eventually learns to use her glitching as a teleport. In the ending, Ralph says the players love it.]]
* HairDecorations: She wears a hair ribbon made of licorice and she has various types of candy stuck in her hair.
* [[spoiler:HeartIsAnAwesomePower]]: [[spoiler:It turns out that her glitching gives her a ''huge'' advantage on the race track.]]
* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: She's the only ''Sugar Rush'' racer who doesn't don a helmet in her car.
* [[HeyYou Hey, You!]]: The ''Sugar Rush'' residents constantly call her "The Glitch".
* HowDoIShotWeb: After getting her car, Ralph is dismayed to find she has no idea how it works. She picks it up quickly, though.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: The Tiny Girl to Ralph's Huge Guy.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Her dream is to become a real racer like the rest of the characters in her game, but because she's a glitch, they won't allow it. [[spoiler:It turns out that she ''is'' a real character in the game, but King Candy manipulated the code so no one in the game knew about it.]]
* InstantExpert: She picks up racing immensely quickly even though she purportedly does not know how to drive at the beginning of the movie; in the course of one day she becomes so good that even without her glitching abuse she manages to quickly get past several of the racers with little difficulty. Justified because [[spoiler:she's the true ruler of ''Sugar Rush'''s world]], and therefore it would make perfect sense for her to by default be the most skilled racer in the entire game.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: She and Ralph strike up a quick friendship after he scares away the other racers that were tormenting her and she promises to help get his medal back. Not only is he an adult and she a kid, but his game has been operational for over a decade before hers.
* InTheHood: She pulls up her hood to mask her face so she won't be caught before she throws her coin into the pot. Interestingly, she's the only ''Sugar Rush'' racer who wears a hoodie with strings instead of a jacket.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's a mouthy little brat, to be sure, but she's still very much a good person and a delight to be with once you're friends with her.
* KidAppealCharacter: Specially for being kind of a SurrogateCharacter for the children audience.
* KidHero: She is supposed to be nine years old.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Ralph according to WordOfGod.
* LittleMissBadass: [[spoiler:Which makes sense, since before King Candy came along she was originally programmed to be ''the best racer in "Sugar Rush"''!]]
* MagicSkirt: She can hang upside down from a (candy cane) tree branch and her skirt remains static. Justified in that it's made of paper candy cups.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: In the friendship sense, to Ralph.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:The word "von" is a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobiliary_particle nobiliary particle]], providing another clue as to her true identity.]]
* TheMissingNo: InUniverse. [[spoiler:Although it turns out that she was never meant to be this.]]
* [[spoiler:ModestRoyalty]]: [[spoiler:After she regains her true identity as the ruler of ''Sugar Rush'', she still much prefers her casual wear and is seen as being slightly uncomfortable in the dress when she wears it for Felix and Calhoun's wedding.]]
* NoSocialSkills: Judging by her first interactions with Ralph she's not very good at interacting with people without insulting or annoying them.
* NotSoDifferent: She realizes that she and Ralph have much in common as both of them want to gain others' acceptance and acknowledgement.
* OralFixationFixation: Sometimes sucks on the strings of her hoodie. Not too surprising, since by WordOfGod, her theme candy is licorice. Her hair-band and hoodie strings are both made out of it.
* PinkIsForSissies: [[spoiler:When her true royal status is restored, she gets a pink PrincessClassic dress]], but she immediately ditches it for her old hoodie and slacks.
* PintSizedKid: Her design is similar to that of a chibi anime character.
* PlayingAgainstType: SarahSilverman's most family-friendly role to date. [[spoiler:Hell, 'Disney Princess' is about the furthest from her usual stuff that you can get!]]
* PluckyGirl: So very much. It's [[TearJerker heart-wrenching]] to see a little girl be so brave, despite being trapped alone in a world where everyone hates her for something that isn't her fault. [[spoiler:Especially when it's revealed that someone's been pulling the strings on the game...]]
* ThePollyanna: She puts the best spin on everything, from her pathetic engineless cart to her secret home in a DummiedOut level. And it doesn't appear to be an act -- she's just cheerfully convinced that her fortunes are going to improve one day. On the flip side, however, [[spoiler:when she gets an actual chance to make her fortune, she breaks almost immediately when Ralph must break her kart.]]
* [[spoiler:PrincessesPreferPink]]: [[spoiler:Played straight then Averted. Since King Candy's castle is presumably hers, not to mention the dress, this seems to be in full effect. Spending time as a glitch seems to have diminished that, though, since she sticks with her original clothing afterward.]]
* [[spoiler:PrincessesRule]]: It's worth noting that [[spoiler:as ruler of the ''Sugar Rush'' world she is still ''Princess'' Vanellope even though Turbo took the title ''King'' Candy]]. However, this could be more of an InvokedTrope, as it would make sense for a game like ''Sugar Rush'' to have the [[spoiler:EverythingIsBetterWithPrincesses]] trope.
* [[spoiler:RagsToRoyalty]]: [[spoiler:The little girl living in a cave takes her place as the rightful ruler of ''Sugar Rush'' at the end of the movie.]]
* RavenHairIvorySkin: To make her look more like her voice actress.
* [[spoiler:ReasonableAuthorityFigure]]: [[spoiler:She decides not to punish the racers for bullying her once she's restored to power in ''Sugar Rush'', starting her Presidency off on a peaceful note. Justified in that the bullying stemmed from King Candy manipulating the code, and not from any real malice.]]
* [[spoiler:ResetButton]]: [[spoiler:Once Vanellope reaches the finish line in ''Sugar Rush'', all of the changes to the game are restored, revealing her to be Princess Vanellope Von Schweetz ''and'' helping everyone in her game remember who she really is.]]
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The Energetic Girl to Ralph's Savvy Guy.
* SheCleansUpNicely: [[spoiler:She doesn't look half-bad in that pink princess dress she gains when her true role as ruler of ''Sugar Rush'' is revealed. She doesn't ''stay'' cleaned up, though, since she almost immediately changes back into her green civilian clothes.]]
* StrangeGirl: Brash, unkempt, [[DummiedOut glitchy...]]
* StreetUrchin: She lives alone on her unfinished race track, using candy wrappers as blankets. She at least has constant access to food, since the entire world of ''Sugar Rush'' is made of it. [[spoiler:At first.]]
* SymbolMotifClothing: She has stripes on her leggings to match up with her licorice theme.
* [[spoiler:TeleportSpam]]: Once Vanellope learns how to [[spoiler:control her glitching, she uses this to save Ralph from his attempted heroic sacrifice by glitching around and through an incoming onslaught of Cy-Bugs. It also becomes her special ability in the game, post-reset. Ralph notes that the players love it.]]
* TomboyishPonytail: She wears her ponytail in an up-do style.
* [[spoiler:TomboyPrincess]]: [[spoiler:Our spunky and tomboyish little kart racer Vanellope turns out to be a princess.]]
* ToyShip: ''One Sweet Race'', a storybook set post-film, suggests a Vanellope/Rancis pairing.
* TheTrickster: Both in personality, as shown in Ralph and Vanellope's first meeting, and in her role in Ralph's quest: she nearly screws Ralph out of a chance at winning his bet with the Hero's Medal, but if she ''hadn't'', [[spoiler:Ralph wouldn't have had a way to redeem himself for his absence almost causing Fix-It Felix Jr. to be unplugged; redeeming himself namely by placing Vanellope back in her true role.]]
* TurnTheOtherCheek: This seems to be a part of her character, as she quickly forgives Ralph for [[spoiler:destroying her car to prevent her from racing]] and [[spoiler:Taffyta after all the abuse she'd taken from her]], though she of course elects to have some jokes at their expense first. Granted, she had quite a bit of reason to forgive both, as [[spoiler:King Candy had manipulated them into thinking their actions would be good for Vanellope and the game, respectively]].
* UnkemptBeauty: Hair is dirty and covered in candy pieces and wears a worn out hoodie. Still cute as a button.
* [[spoiler:UnPerson]]: [[spoiler:In-universe example, thanks to King Candy meddling with her code.]]
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Ralph. The two are constantly trading insults and glares but do care for each other.
* TheVonTropeFamily: [[spoiler:This actually foreshadows her true role in the game.]]
* WiseBeyondHerYears: Due to being [[TheWoobie being treated like crap from the others]]. Her JerkassFacade is just a way to blow off some steam, and her real wisdom shows up when [[spoiler:she's willing to accept her doom with a smile for the sake of Ralph's own safety during the Cy-Bug invasion of ''Sugar Rush''.]] Keep in mind ''[[AdultFear she's nine]]''.
* [[spoiler:WistfulAmnesia]]: Vanellope insists that [[spoiler:being a racer is "in her code"]], even if everyone else tells her otherwise.
* WrenchWench: She built a semi-functional pedal push car by herself.
