* MagicalIncantation: His verbal spells are Latin, including the [[spoiler:activator and counter-spells for America's sleeping curse.]]

* PapaWolf: He always is this when it comes to his brothers but develops protective feelings to Team RWBY and JNPR as well. When England finds out [[spoiler:Ozpin hurt Vale and is willing to let any of his allies die "for the greater good", he threatens to kill Ozpin over and over if Ozpin tries to sacrifice his family, friends, or the former students.]]

* PragmaticHero: He has no problem doing morally questionable things to achieve greater ends. [[spoiler:After Ozpin tries to murder America, England is willing to kill Oscar to kill Ozpin so Ozpin cannot appear and harm any of them again. He backs down after some convincing from France and concedes to give Oscar a sleeping spell to use if Ozpin emerges.]]

* VeinOVision: One of his spells allows him to create a three-dimensional image of the veins, bones, and organs of a person. He uses it to [[spoiler:check if America has been infected with Grimm essence (he hasn't), again to check Canada (he has), and to see if Blake was still alive (she isn't)]].

* WouldHurtAChild: He is willing to [[spoiler:kill Oscar to kill Ozpin with him after Ozpin tries to [[HumanSacrifice murder America]], Penny, and Pyrrha. France talks him out of it.]]

* DeathGlare: He shoots Weiss one when she blames Romano for [[spoiler:losing the Relic of Creation.]] It is one of the first signs [[OutOfCharacterAlert something is wrong]].
* DeerInTheHeadlights: He freezes in place and goes tangible while distracting [[spoiler:[[SuperpoweredEvilSide Silver-Eyes]] Ruby. He only survives because [[VillainousRescue Hazel saves him]].]]
* DrawAggro: Italy often takes this role despite his fear. He knows he is not the strongest fighter but since he has {{intangibility}}, he has the least risk of getting hurt so he acts as a distraction. He shoots a Silver Eyes raging Ruby in the back to draw her attention and distract her from attacking an injured Weiss and Japan and later [[spoiler:distracts her again to protect all of his friends from Ruby’s rampage as they escape the Temple]].

* FastballSpecial: Ruby launches him using her scythe during the [[spoiler:Warden Grimm]] battle.

* AttackReflector: [[spoiler:France's Semblance allows him to deflect attacks back at their source with increased force.]]

* CharacterDevelopment: He goes from a CowardlyLion who shook as he stood up to Adam to bravely fighting [[spoiler:the Queen of the Grimm herself]] without a tremble. He also tones down his flirtatious attitude and becomes more willing to show his serious, caring, and brotherly side.

* TraumaButton: [[spoiler:Calling him Vacuo will cause him to freak out. His pupils will blow wide and he'll viciously rip apart the person who said it, as Tyrian learns the hard way.]]

* {{Pride}}: While not as blatant as some cases, this is one of his flaws alongside Wrath. He is very strong and knows it, so he likes to take matters into his own hands like when he [[spoiler:attacks America to "make him better" and wants to be the one to shoot the Kraken Spawner Grimm despite Finland being better suited for the task. In the latter instance, Russia's pride nearly gets his team killed.]]
* TheReveal: Russia wears a scarf [[spoiler:to cover the scars on his neck, which were given to him by his human bosses.]]
* ScarsAreForever: [[spoiler:The scars on his throat never faded after decades have passed.]]
* SlashedThroat: [[spoiler:In the past, a few of his bosses punished him by cutting his throat over and over. This left him with scars on his neck, which he covers with his scarf.]]

* WhyDidYouMakeMeHitYou: He acts regretful and insists it is [[spoiler:America's]] fault that Russia attacked him since [[spoiler:if America defended himself, Russia would not have to harm him anymore.]] His logic is as [[PsychopathicManchild twisted]] as it sounds, and he eventually admits he attacked [[spoiler:America because he believed he was lying about his PTSD and Russia wanted him to go back to normal.]]

* MindRape: [[spoiler:[[TheMole Agent Aster]] uses his trust-manipulating Semblance on Germany to alter his thoughts and get him to lower his guard around the traitor. Prussia stops Aster before he can do anything further.]]
* NamedWeapons: A RunningGag with him is how he does not understand why he needs to name his weapon. He eventually names it [[spoiler:the first name Italy]] suggests: Oathkeeper.

* InterfaceScrew: Non-video game example. [[spoiler:Prussia's Semblance allows him to reverse his target's senses. Up is down, forward is back, left is right and so on. He can also reverse other senses such as their hearing.]]

* NoSell: He is completely unaffected by [[spoiler:Agent Aster's trust-manipulating Semblance]]. He claims he is too awesome for it to affect him, but Germany is not sure that is the truth.

* DreamWalker: [[spoiler:His Semblance. He unknowingly travels into Canada and England's nightmares on multiple occasions. It is how Earth finds out America has been captured.]]

* NervesOfSteel: He remains calm and collected when he walks downstairs to find [[spoiler:''[[HumanoidAbomination Salem]]'' standing in America's kitchen.]] Not many could face [[spoiler:the Queen of the Grimm]] and remain polite and levelheaded.

* ThisIsUnforgivable: Reacts this way after [[spoiler:Salem's attack on America's mansion.]] He refuses to let her get away with what she did and becomes determined to bring her down.

* AnimalEyeSpy: [[spoiler:His Semblance lets him see through the eyes of nearby animals along with control them.]]

* TheBeastmaster: [[spoiler:His Semblance allows him to take control of nearby animals. In one instance he uses it to control catfish and kill a crocodile-like Grimm with their poison.]]

* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Before anyone can think [[spoiler:Australia's Semblance]] is weak, he uses it to [[spoiler:control catfish and use them to kill a gigantic crocodile Grimm.]]

* PowerGlows: His eyes glow dark green when he [[spoiler:uses his Semblance.]]

* DespairEventHorizon: Reaches his upon realizing that rescue isn't coming after spending weeks alone in his cell in the Transformation Institute. [[spoiler:He gets better.]]

* TookALevelInBadass: He goes from a NonActionGuy who awkwardly holds his rifle to [[spoiler:stabbing a Byakko Grimm through the eye while his other arm is trapped in the Grimm's jaws.]]
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He is terrified of sea creatures. Unfortunately for him, [[spoiler:one of the Spawner Grimm sent to attack DC is a gigantic Kraken.]]

* ActionGirl: The most prominent (and [[BloodKnight eager]]) of the female nations that are a part of AGATE's A-team. She participates in every Grimm battle and proves to be a vital combatant in the [[spoiler:Kraken Spawner Grimm fight]], where her skills help keep swarms of Grimm off of Finland as he lines up the shot to take it out.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's usually motherly and sweet but will drop her enemies without hesitation. She savagely and remorselessly bashes [[spoiler:an Atlas spy]] over the head while he is down during a fight, though it's done to [[spoiler:deplete his Aura]].

* CombatPragmatist: She kicks and punches [[spoiler:an Atlas spy]] when he is dazed and flat on his back on the ground. She also puts him in a chokehold.
* GirlyBruiser: She enjoys wearing dresses, picking flowers, cooking, and kicking Grimm [[spoiler:and Atlas spy]] butt.

* AscendedExtra: His role has grown as the series went on. He showed up in a couple chapters of ''The Depths of Deception'', got a more prominent role as part of the Taskforce in ''The Atrocities of Atlas'', and became instrumental in [[spoiler:befriending Copper, the Atlas soldier,]] in ''The Charlatan of Choice''.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Sweet and kind as he is, get on his bad side or hurt his friends and you will regret it. [[spoiler:As an Atlas spy learns when he attacks Finland, Denmark, Germany, and Hungary.]]

* GoodIsNotSoft: He is one of the kindest characters in the series, yet is also a competent sniper and fighter. When his group is attacked by [[spoiler:an Atlas spy]], he does not hesitate to bash his head in with the butt end of his sniper rifle. In his own words, "kind" does not mean "weak".
* FriendlySniper: He is cheerful and bubbly, and one of, if not ''the'' best sniper of the nations. He's so good [[spoiler:Germany has him shoot the Kraken Grimm in the eye in order to mark the missile's target.]]
* OddFriendship: A cheerful, open, and optimistic nation is friends with a stoic, secretive, and guarded [[spoiler:Copper.]]

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He wants to fight Grimm and goes as far as to "borrow" Finland's phone so he can find them. After all that trouble he went through, he does not get to fight the Grimm at China's house. [[spoiler:He has to fight Grimm to defend Tony's lab and Copper dies saving his life, leaving him blood-covered and traumatized.]]
* HarmfulToMinors: Yes, Sealand is older than he appears like all personifications, but he is [[EmotionalMaturityIsPhysicalMaturity still very much a child]] [[spoiler:as shown by his [[ThousandYardStare horrified]] reaction when Copper dies for him.]]

* PragmaticHero: Hehas no problem doing morally questionable things to achieve greater ends. * TheReveal: Russia wears a scarf [[spoiler:to cover the scars on his neck, which were given to him by his human bosses.]]

* TheLeader: Of the Anti-Grimm Taskforce. His leadership qualities are why Italy convinces him to stay behind from the second Remnant rescue mission. The Taskforce needs Germany more than they do.

* TheBeastmaster: [[spoiler:His Semblance allows him to take control of nearby animals. In one instance he uses it to control catfish and kill a crocodile-like Grimm with their poison.]]

* TheLancer: He serves as one to Germany in the Taskforce and can be considered their second-in-command. He immediately takes charge while Germany is incapacitated by the Phoenix Grimm.

* TheDeterminator: He never gives in to Atlas's brainwashing and never even considers giving up.
