* UngratefulBastard: Even after Jaggedtooth helps him become leader in "Tigerclaw's Fury", he refuses to reward him because he feels like he owes him nothing.
** Double subverted when he sees Firestar (Fireheart back then) rescuing Bramblekit during the forest fire. At first, he's thankful that Bramblekit made it out okay and that Firestar rescued him...but then he still continues hating Firestar.

* VisionaryVillain: In ''The Original Series'', he wants to create a world where the Clans end their eternal war and usher in a new age of prosperity by joining together as one. Of course, the way he goes about it is evil, and that's why he's the villain.

* SpiritAdvisor: After the deaths of more of his warriors, he appears to the medicine cat and tells him he needs to choose a new leader himself, as well as amend the code to ensure such a situation can never happen again.

The deputy of Snowstar. She became leader after he died, but was unable to travel to Highstones and receive her nine lives due to illness. Her death before she selected a deputy of her own led to a rule being made that a Clan leader has to appoint a new deputy before moonhigh.

* ICouldaBeenAContender: She could have been a great leader, but died of greencough on the night she was supposed to receive her nine lives.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Redscar, the medicine cat at the time, comforted Brightwhisker's worries over her recovery by saying she was ill with whitecough and would be well enough in time to make her journey to receive her nine lives. Unfortunately, her illness develops into a fierce case of greencough, and Brightwhisker dies in her sleep.
* NumberTwo: To Snowstar.
* ShortLivedLeadership: She became leader after Snowstar died, but died of greencough the very next day before she could receive her nine lives.
* SuccessionCrisis: Her death sparked one. She died shortly after her leader did without having declared a deputy, leaving [=ShadowClan=] with no leader and no one to replace Brightwhisker.
* YankTheDogsChain: She was Snowstar's deputy and became leader of [=ShadowClan=] when he died, but died of greencough before she could go to Highstones and get her nine lives.

* GreaterNeedThanMine: Why she was chosen as leader, despite not having been a deputy previously. Despite her grief over her sister's death, her first priority was to take care of her Clanmates in the midst of the SuccessionCrisis.
* TeamMom: During a time of turmoil, she was the first to organize patrols, comfort her Clanmates, and offer to help collect herbs for her medicine cat, Redscar. These were qualities that made [=StarClan=] choose her as [=ShadowClan=]'s new leader.

Ripplestar arrogantly replies that he thinks attacking all four Clans at once would hardly be the action of a coward in his eyes.

* KarmicDeath: When he attempts to kill Finchstar, he's suddenly struck by lightning, implying that he angered [=StarClan=] enough that ''they'' were the ones to take him out.

* OhCrap: When the lightning strikes him, causing him to fall off the Great Rock, dead.

* StrongFamilyResemblance: His sons Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost are said to be spitting images of him. His descendants Tigerstar (Tigerheart), Lightleap, Strikestone, and Juniperkit are also brown tabbies like himself. This has garnered the term "Tigerclone" in the fandom when referring to Tigerstar's near-lookalikes.

* LikeFatherLikeSon: He ends up leaving [=ThunderClan=] while his kits are still in the nursery, much like his own father Pinestar did.
