!!Current Trollhunters

[[folder:As a whole]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/trollhunters.jpg]]

A ragtag group who work together to hunt rogue creatures.
----
* BadassCrew: A group of intelligent, heroic, and capable heroes.
* FighterMageThief: Jim, Toby, and Claire respectively.
** Jim has the most experience in combat with armor and swords evocative of knight imagery.
** Toby wields an unpredictable magical weapon (his warhammer) that [[GlassCannon can hit hard, but he himself is less able to endure hits himself]]. Combined with his armor and the flying powers of his hammer and he makes an effective MagicKnight.
** Claire's staff allows her to move around the battlefield with portals and redirect attacks. She's also associated with darkness, making her perfect for stealth and the transportation of important things like the Bridge.
* GoodIsNotSoft: All the members are friendly, [[TrueCompanions get along very well]], and are genuinely sweet to people outside their usual social circle. Despite this, they are all perfectly willing to use lethal force against foes, and become ruthless and focused if any of their loved ones and homes are threatened.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Jim, Toby, and Claire are teens while Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! are (technically) adults. And yet, all of them are a tight-knit group.
* InterspeciesFriendship: Jim, Toby, and Claire are human while Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! are trolls. And all of them are close friends with each other.
* KidHero: Jim, Toby, and Claire are teenagers that help protect the world.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Jim, Toby, and Claire used to have average high school lives before Jim became the new Trollhunter.
* TheTeam: A Trollhunter is normally supposed to work alone. [[TokenHuman Jim]], however, relies heavily on his friends to help him in his heroics. Because of this, he and his team collectively refer to themselves as "Trollhunters."
* ThreeAmigos: Jim (TheHero), Claire (female LoveInterest), and Toby (male best friend).
* WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld: For Jim, Claire, and Toby, this becomes their new normal.

!!!'''Appearances:''' ''WesternAnimation/{{Trollhunters}}'' | ''WesternAnimation/ThreeBelow'' | ''WesternAnimation/Wizards2020'' | ''WesternAnimation/TrollhuntersRiseOfTheTitans''
->'''Voiced By:''' Creator/AntonYelchin (''Trollhunters'' Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 episode 1-2); Creator/EmileHirsch (''Trollhunters'' Part 3 episode 3-onward, ''3Below'', ''Wizards'', ''Rise of the Titans'')

The main protagonist and TheChosenOne to be the Trollhunter (the first human one).
----
* ActionSurvivor: Jim has proven throughout the franchise that he's a natural at surviving supernatural stakes and often takes his skills and abilities for granted. He was more than capable of surviving the Darklands alone for almost two weeks, despite having little resources and his only source of nutrition being Nyarlagroth eggs. Also, while injured from an Onyx Shard, he was able to survive Camelot's knight hunt in the Wild Wood and even the historic Battle of Killahead Bridge itself.
* AdaptationNameChange: From "James ''Sturges'' Jr." in the book to "Jim ''Lake'' Jr." in the animated adaptation.
* AffectionateNickname:
** Strickler calls Jim "Young Atlas" as a reference to him bearing the weight of the world on his shoulders. It started off as affectionate but grew more into TermsOfEndangerment as time went on. [[spoiler:By the time of the first season finale, it's back to being affectionate.]]
** "Jimbo" by Toby.
** "Little Gynt" from [[spoiler:Nomura]].
* AmazonChaser: For Claire -- in "Young Atlas" (while under the effects of Grit-Shaka), Claire karate flips him to the floor when he gets too inappropriate with her and his only reaction is a smile. And in "Claire and Present Danger", he comments on her having a great right and left.
* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler:While he was [[BrainwashedAndCrazy under the influence of Arthur's corruption]], Claire manages to find Jim's soul in the Shadow Realm. As it turned out, Jim has been ''aware'' of what he what he was doing inside his beast form. He's fighting for his free will the entire time, but he keeps losing his grip because Arthur's AntiMagic was too powerful. As such, his human soul begs Claire to help free him from his corruption.]]
* [[AnxietyTropes Anxiety]]: Aside from being a SociallyAwkwardHero, it is confirmed by Strickler in the pilot episode that Jim suffers from anxiety. He shows signs of restlessness, lack of concentration, hyper-vigilance, and consistently worrying about others' well-being, mostly his loved ones, and has occasional breaking points when under a lot of stress.
* BattleCouple: After his RelationshipUpgrade with Claire in "Homecoming", they are this. Still fighting evil while being an OfficialCouple.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor:
** Wanted more excitement in his life, which was already complicated enough. He got his wish. Toby chides him for it in the second episode.
** All Jim wanted to do after becoming a Trollhunter was to escape the stressful life, and he got his wish in "Unbecoming". However, even though he didn't have the hectic life of a Trollhunter, he also didn't form friendships with Blinky, Draal, or AAARRRGGHH!!!. And, his romance with Claire never took off.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Jim is a pretty even-tempered and polite person who admits that prior to being a Trollhunter he has never gotten into a physical fight before. However, getting him pissed will either result in a punch to the face, a sword slash to any part of the body, or death.
* BifurcatedWeapon: An upgrade to the Amulet gives Jim a pair of daggers that can be combined into a BattleBoomerang.
* BirthdayHater: While Jim will be polite and accept his birthday celebration, his father left the family on Jim's fifth birthday, creating a bias against them.
* ABirthdayNotABreak: Jim's [[DangerousSixteenthBirthday 16th]] birthday occurs in "Bittersweet Sixteen". First, he doesn't like birthdays in general because his father abandoned his family on Jim's fifth birthday. Second, on ''this'' birthday, Jim was targeted by a Stalkling, hit by lightning, and nearly suffers DeathByFalling.
* BlessedWithSuck:
** Having been chosen by the Amulet, Jim is forced to be the troll's champion at everything (even at the most menial of tasks), especially since dark forces of every shape and size want the amulet for themselves. Being the first ''human'' trollhunter doesn't exactly warrant much confidence in the people he is sworn to protect either. Even worse, he just can't get rid of it, since the Amulet refuses to be thrown away until he is dead (unless it is ''stolen'', in which case he has to get it back the old-fashioned way).
** Happens again in the final season, when [[spoiler:Merlin convinces him to use a potion that will make him half-troll. On the plus side, he gets troll like strength and agility. However, it also comes with the standard troll weakness to sunlight and his armor is permanently fused to his body, forcing him to join the trolls as their protector 24/7. He's changed back to normal at the end of ''[[WesternAnimation/Wizards2020 Wizards]]'']].
* BlueIsHeroic: Either in his armor that emits blue light or in mostly blue civilian clothing, Jim is a heroic person. [[spoiler:His skin also turns blue when he becomes Half-Troll]].
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Wizards'', Jim is reverted back to his human form, but his amulet was destroyed when the Arcane Order used it to resurrect Morgana from the Shadow Realm. In ''Rise of the Titans'', however, despite losing the amulet, Jim still retains his fighting skills enough to hold off against Bellroc, albeit briefly.]]
* BullyHunter: Stands up to Steven in the first episode when the bully is picking on Eli.
* TheCaretaker: For his mother, as he prepares her meals and gives her reminders. She even notes that she should be taking care of him, not the other way around.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** When staring off as a Trollhunter, Jim was informed by Blinky that he would often need to ''kill'' his enemies to ensure the safety of Trolls. However, after defeating and killing Bular, Jim is now more at ease on killing if it means protecting himself or his loved ones.
** Due to the stresses that came with being a Trollhunter, Jim was understandably resentful of it, to the point he wished he never found the Amulet in the first place. And then said wish led to him seeing the horrors that could've happened had he not found the Amulet. Afterwards, Jim resigned himself to do whatever he can to fulfill his duties. [[spoiler:Even permanently turning himself into a half-Troll, though he does change back to normal at the end of ''Wizards'']].
* ChefOfIron: Jim's constant cooking actually benefited him in using his sword to defend himself.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Toby -- the two met when they were both five years old when Toby was adopted by his Nana and Jim's father left his family. Ever since, they have been best friends for over a decade.
* TheChosenOne: Jim Lake is the newest Trollhunter - the chosen protector of the Troll-world via the Amulet of Merlin - as well as the very first human to become the Trollhunter. [[spoiler:Although his amulet was destroyed in ''Wizards'', Krel and Stuart rebuilt/upgraded his amulet in ''Rise of the Titans'' to summon Magiteck Armor. Later on, Jim becomes the next wielder of Excalibur. Although after going back in time to the day he became the Trollhunter, [[AmbiguousSituation it's never made clear whether or not he ''still'' possesses the rebuilt amulet]], even after he allowed Toby to find the amulet in the new timeline. Given the headcanon to the nature of the ending, it's debatable if he still has it or not.]]
* ColorMotifs: Blue, representing his heroic qualities. His main outfit is mainly blue, he has InnocentBlueEyes, and his skin [[spoiler:is blue after he becomes half-Troll]].
* CoolHelmet: After he dons his new set of armor, he is now able to summon a horned helmet. Later, it's shown that he is still able to summon this helmet in his usual armor.
* CoolLoser: Downplayed. Jim is neither popular nor unpopular in school as he doesn't care about popularity that much, yet is looked up to by his peers as an all-around NiceGuy. However, Jim often gets harassed by JerkJock Steve after standing up to him.
* CuteLittleFangs: [[spoiler:Has two small fangs in the form of an under-bite after being transformed into a troll.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: When he wears the Eclipse Armor.
* DistressedDude: Downplayed, though Jim does spend the majority of ''Wizards'' like this.
** First, he was struck down by an Onyx Shard that slowly penetrated his heart, and even though the process was temporally halted due to the time travel, it still left him virtually weakened and unable to summon Daylight and his other weapons. He even had to run and hide from Arthur's knights hunting him, due to his injury affecting his ability to fight and defend himself. Although, after being partially healed and cared for by Blinky and Dictatious in Dwoza, he was able to hold himself off against a Gumm-Gumm AAARRRGGHH!!! and even participate in the Battle of Killahead by using a Gumm-Gumm's sword as his temporary weapon.
** Then, when he returns to the present, he hurries the shard's process to try and gain an edge over the Green Knight, but he sadly falls under his control and has his soul trapped in the Shadow Realm, just like what happened to Claire when Morgana took control of her.
** Finally, [[YankTheDogsChain when he's freed from the Green Knight's control... he's immediately turned to stone]]. [[spoiler:But thanks to Claire's tears, he changes back to his human form, but is left with no powers... for now]].
* DualWielding: After receiving the Birthstone, Jim is now able to summon and use two boomerang daggers.
* EarnYourHappyEnding:
** [[spoiler:After everything that happened to him - having been forced to become the Trollhunter, giving up his humanity and any hopes of a normal life to be strong enough to defeat Gunmar by turning himself into a half-troll, forcing himself to become a full-troll with the Green Knight's shard corrupting him and rendered BrainwashedAndCrazy by the Arcane Order - the ''Wizards'' finale ends with him becoming human again and the Amulet of Daylight destroyed, freeing him of being the Trollhunter and allowing him to return to Arcadia and relive his human life. Though time will tell if [[StrangerInAFamiliarLand he really can return to a normal life after everything he's been through]].]]
** ''[[WesternAnimation/TrollhuntersRiseOfTheTitans Rise of the Titans]]'' takes this up a notch, [[spoiler:in that Jim's in the process of doing this not only for himself but ''every single one of his allies''. The heroes' combined efforts eventually result in the deaths of the Arcane Order, but this comes at the cost of great death and widespread destruction, including the passing of Nomura, Strickler, Nari and Toby in attempting to stop the Titans and prevent TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt. Distraught by what they've lost, Jim realizes from Nari's last words to him that he can use the time stone from the Krohnisfere alongside the reforged Trollhunter amulet to SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong, returning to the very day he first encountered the amulet with his future memories intact, though only he alone [[RippleEffectProofMemory remembers the future events to come]]. The series ends with Jim determined to use his knowledge of the future to achieve [[GoldenEnding a better outcome]] [[EverybodyLives for all of his loved ones]], starting by directing Toby towards the canal so his friend becomes the first human Trollhunter in the new timeline]].
* ExcaliburInTheStone: In ''Rise of the Titans'', [[spoiler:Jim pulls out Excalibur near the film's climax, and eventually uses it to finish off Bellroc during the FinalBattle.]]
* ExtremelyProtectiveChild: Jim threatened to ''kill'' Strickler if he continued to see Jim's mother.
* FireForgedFriends: [[spoiler:While imprisoned in the Dark Lands, he is assisted by the also imprisoned Nomura and he, in turn, helps her. As such, they become allies after their escape with Nomura leaving and coming back to Arcadia to bring help after Gunmar escapes.]]
* ForWantOfANail: If Jim hadn't been the next Trollhunter, his encounters with Strickler would have gone rather differently, considering how Strickler tried to mentor him.[[spoiler:In the new timeline, Jim is fully aware of this, and starts directing Strickler and Barbara together earlier to help bring Strickler around to the side of good earlier than he did before.]]
* GoodArmorEvilArmor: Downplayed. The Amulet of Daylight and the armor and sword it produces in usually bathed in glowing blue and is made of a chrome silver [[HardLight daylight-based alloy]]. When he incorporates the Triumbric Stones (three stones that possess either a literal or archaic connection to the series' BigBad Gunmar) into it, the armor and sword take on darker tones - referred to as his Eclipse Armor - becoming black with red highlights. Aside from having a different summoning phrase and being able to remain active without the amulet being connected to him, it is functionally the same as his normal armor.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: [[spoiler:After returning to his human form at the end of ''Wizards'', Jim gains a scar on his left cheek and another over his right eyebrow (similar to King Arthur's), which is the result of his CurbStompBattle with AAARRRGGHH!!! while he was BrainwashedAndCrazy.]]
* GratuitousSpanish: Justified in-universe as his Spanish class teacher is notoriously merciless in his grading so Jim practices the language whenever he can.
* HalfHumanHybrid: [[spoiler:Merlin transforms him into a troll hybrid, this gives him enhanced physical attributes but also gives him the troll weakness to sunlight. By the end of ''Wizards'', he changes back to fully human again]].
* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: His suit didn't come with a helmet like it did his predecessors. Deconstructed to a degree as he sustains injuries that would have been otherwise mitigated if his head had been armored.
* HeroesPreferSwords: The very first weapon he has as a Trollhunter is the Sword of Daylight and, as of the season 1 finale, he now wields the Sword of Eclipse. [[spoiler:He also wields Excalibur in the ''Rise of the Titans'' film]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Almost, but ultimately subverted at the end of ''Wizards''. Jim sacrifices himself by forcing the Onyx Shard into his heart and turn himself into a full-troll beast while he buys his friends time to escape (but at the cost of the rest of his humanity and left under the Green Knight's corruption). Claire manages to help him regain his free will, but is quickly turned to stone... until her tears revive him and restore him back to his original human form.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: He and Toby are each other's best friend. Claire, at one point, describes them as the "dynamic duo".
* HowDoIShootWeb: Jim initially struggled to master the amulet's power (armoring up by accident, re-summoning the sword, etc.), but gradually gains better control over his abilities as the series went on.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Zigzagged. Jim is taller than Claire but only by a few inches. [[spoiler:This trope is played straight after Jim becomes a half-Troll in season 3, and he's now more of an example of OneHeadTaller as well as being more muscular]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: Downplayed. Jim claims that he's against lying and felt (rightfully) betrayed by Strickler when he deceived him while he worked with Bular and sent Angor Rot after him. However, Nomura points out that he lies to ''his own mother'' about his double life every day. He tries to excuse it as trying to protect her and keep her out of danger.
* IndulgentFantasySegue: In "Airheads", Jim is taking part in the Spring Fling Touch-[=ATruck=]-athon, where he has to keep his hand on a truck. During the contest, Strickler wanders by and mocks Jim about [[spoiler:losing the Killstone to Angor Rot]] and how he is more-or-less dating his mother. As Strickler laughs, in slow-motion, Jim takes his hand off of the car and punches Strickler in the face, knocking him out in front of everyone. It then cuts back to the contest, the punch having been a thought in Jim's head.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Jim has light blue eyes that serve to symbolize his heroic nature.
* InterspeciesRomance: Zigzagged. He and Claire are human, but after the former [[spoiler:takes a potion made by Merlin, he become half-Troll, thus qualifying him and Claire as this]].
* ItGetsEasier: At first Jim was horrified at the thought of having to kill any person or troll. After he killed the dental hygienist who would have killed Toby, however, he's able to handle the baggage better. After [[spoiler:killing Bular, however, with his friends' help, he's more than willing to strike down Strickler for a while. It gets to the point where charging after Angor Rot gets him trapped.]]
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: On top of everything that all other Trollhunters go through, these problems are even worse when it falls onto Jim, who is not only the first human Trollhunter, but he is a mere teenager who had no fighting experience before he was chosen. Being a human for a device designed for trolls, it takes getting used to for Jim to have control over its activation, and his human body means he is considerably weaker than most trolls. As a teenager, he has many responsibilities in his personal life and school life, his duties straining his relationship with his mother and causing him to fall so far behind that he winds up missing over a month in school. [[spoiler:By the end of Season 3, he was forced to abandon his human life and allow himself to be turned into a troll by Merlin just so he would be physically strong and durable enough to take on [[BigBadEnsemble Gunmar and Morgana]]. However, by the end of ''WesternAnimation/{{Wizards}}'' he's changed back to normal, albeit without the Amulet of Daylight, and was eventually shown worthy of wielding Excalibur.]]
* KnightInShiningArmor: Fully embodies this trope [[spoiler:until he gains the Power of Eclipse.]]
* LikeASonToMe:
** Jim forms a close father-son relationship with Blinky, which Strickler even notes on. And after [[spoiler:Jim became a troll-human hybrid, Blinky outright states he considers Jim a "magnificent son".]]
** His relationship with Strickler is more complicated given how the duo were once bitter enemies, but their relationship does resemble one between a father and son. And in a conversation with Claire, he notes he sees (or previously saw) Strickler as a father figure.
* LivingADoubleLife: {{Deconstructed|Trope}}. Being the newly chosen Trollhunter (and the first human one at that) has proven to be incredibly stressful for Jim. And because of his new and dangerous responsibilities, his academics are in dire straits and his relationship with his mother is strained at times.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: After receiving the Killstone, Jim now has the ability to summon a large warrior's shield.
* {{Magitek}}: Near the end of ''Rise of the Titans'', [[spoiler:Jim is finally able to summon Magiktech Armor, which is combined with magic and tech and, thanks to Excalibur's hilt stone within the amulet, he's able to summon the ancient sword to his possession at will. It's unclear if Jim still has the rebuilt amulet, even after time-traveling, but it's up for debate.]]
* MagneticHero: Though he was treated coldly at first, Jim manages to gain Trollmarket's respect with his heroic deeds that no other previous Trollhunter before him could do. [[spoiler:Even his enemies, Strickler and Nomura, are drawn in by his heroic nature to the point they decide to help him fight off Gunmar.]]
* TheMagnificent: After defeating Bular, Jim is granted the title of "Bular Slayer". This is later used as a means to getting under Gunmar’s skin by Jim and Draal when fighting him.
* TheMainCharactersDoEverything: The Trollhunter's job is to "heed the call", which apparently means that it is Jim's job to do ''everything'' troll society demands of him, including taking care of one troll's gnome infestation. Blinky justifies the troll's request by suggesting that it would make a good first lesson for Jim. The same troll would later have Jim deliver a box to her sister [[spoiler:a box containing what could be an illegal gravity curse]] for her through the human mailing system.
* MilitaryBrat: The only image of either his grandfather or uncle shows him in a green, military suit with medals, so he was clearly involved. Since Barbara knows some krav maga (a form of offensive martial arts commonly taught to military troops), she may have been a soldier or military [=MD=], so it should not be too much of a surprise for Jim to acclimate to a life of battle so quickly, in-spite of being a pacifist beforehand.
* MommasBoy: {{Justified|Trope}}. Jim is ''extremely'' close to his mother because he has a DisappearedDad who was a deadbeat and he lovingly helps his mother because of her stressful job as a doctor.
-->'''Toby:''' You mother your mother a lot.
* MoralityPet: Subverted with Mr. Strickler. At first Strickler was kind to Jim after learning he had the amulet, and staying away from Bular and Nomura's murder attempts. Strickler was also upset on learning that Bular sent a troll assassin after Jim on his sixteenth birthday rather than focus on mending the bridge. [[spoiler:Then Bular revealed to Jim that Strickler was a Changeling, a few days before Strickler would have a dinner date with Barbara. While Strickler in the ensuing fight only swapped the amulet for a fake, in the second confrontation he revealed IAmNotLefthanded and managed to overpower Jim to force him to open the bridge. By the time they meet again, Strickler has commissioned Angor Rot to kill Jim and enspelled Barbara so that she will be hurt if Strickler gets hurt]].
* NiceGuy: Jim is a polite, friendly, and heroic young man.
* NoFlowInCGI:
** In the trilogy, no matter how many [[UnnecessaryCombatRoll flips]] he does or how hard he [[IHitYouYouHitTheGround hits the ground]], his hair always stays slick and in the same style as it was before. However, he will occasionally wake up with bed-head and it will look wet when it's raining or something.
** Subverted in ''Rise of the Titans'' where the increased budget allows for better animation and thus Jim's hair is now fluid.
* ParentWithNewParamour: Even before discovering Strickler being a changeling and despite being his favorite teacher, Jim's reaction to the possibility of the former dating his mother, Barbara, is surprise and mild horror.
* RealMenCook: Since his mother has to work long hours at random, Jim is considered the homemaker. Because of this, he possesses marvelous cooking skills, effortlessly making meals for himself, his mother and Toby. He was even able to survive his first fight with Bular using his skills with a chef's knife.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: {{Inverted|Trope}}. After his transformation into a half-troll, Jim is still a heroic Trollhunter but his armor in that tenure is black with red linings.
* RefusalOfTheCall: Tries to get rid of the Amulet several times when Draal beats him in a sparing match and says that he's not worthy to be the Trollhunter. However, since the Amulet is permanently bonded with Jim, [[ClingyMacGuffin it instantly returns to him whenever rejected]].
* RelationshipUpgrade: With Claire in "Homecoming" after they share a BigDamnKiss.
* RippleEffectProofMemory: [[spoiler:Noticeably, Jim is unaffected by and remembers significant time alterations, regardless if no one else does, such as when [[Recap/TrollhuntersS2E11Unbecoming Merlin took Jim to an alternate reality where he wasn't chosen]] and when [[Recap/ThreeBelowS1E6DajaVu dealing with Porgon causing time loops]]. Although, when he willingly reseted time once, he forgot ever meeting the Tarrons, but likely had vague rippling memories. In ''Rise of the Titans'', Nari [[ExploitedTrope exploited]] Jim's unique abilities to help prevent the titans and other tragic events from taking place, since he'll remember what really happened to prevent it.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: By the time of ''Rise of the Titans'' he not only fully approves of his mother dating Strickler but also [[spoiler:takes steps in setting them up as a couple earlier than they would have before once he resets time.]]
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Prominently shown in the episodes "Young Atlas" and "The Shattered King". Basically, Jim is (relatively) fine with going on dangerous adventures, but has a hard time asking out Claire.
* StagesOfMonsterGrief: [[spoiler:After he chooses to be turned into a HalfHumanHybrid permanently to better fight Gunmar and Morgana, he's fine with it for a bit (doing things like playfighting with AAARRRGGHH!!! and outpacing Claire in a treetop chase)until the drawbacks eventually start hitting him- he can't be in the sunlight, eat human food, or ''even graduate high school'' ever again. In his breakdown, he runs off to the school to sit at his old desk while remembering his pre-Trollhunter life while sadly carving his name into it, and gives in to his more animalistic side when Toby and Claire manage to find him, saying that the Jim they knew was gone. The rest of the Trollhunters manage to talk him down and remind him that he's still himself inside, and they'll still be there for him.]]
* StrongerThanTheyLook: Despite his skinniness, Jim is actually strong for a boy his age. After going through months of intense training, he's able to overcome and slip right through [[JerkJock Steve]], although it's clear Jim was holding back, due to having to keep his Trollhunting nature a secret.
* SummonToHand: Jim can summon the Sword of Daylight to his hand if he's ever disarmed.
* SupremeChef: Jim looks up recipes online daily and cooks all the meals for his family and friends. He's also very talented with it, to the point that if his mother ''ever'' turns down a meal, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness he knows it's bad news]].
* SwordBeam: The Sword of Daylight shoots out a beam of pure daylight after Jim [[spoiler:stabs Bular through the chest, turning most of his body to stone in the process]].
* TeamChef: For the humans, anyway. His morning routine involves making breakfast and lunch for himself, his mother, and Toby.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: As it can teleport back to his hands as long as it wasn't struck down, Jim is quite fond of throwing his sword at enemies.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** He starts off as a novice who admits to never being into a physical altercation before, but he ends with improving in his skills to the point of [[spoiler:killing Gunmar and helping in killing Angor Rot.]]
** And after taking [[spoiler:Merlin's potion to become half-Troll, Jim's strength, power, and dexterity increase tenfold. To the point, he can take direct hits from large Trolls like AAARRRGGHH!!! and survive]].
** [[spoiler:In ''Rise of the Titans'', Jim manages to pull Excalibur out of stone, effectively gaining the ability to slay an immortal wizard (something his former sword, Daylight, was unable to do before). He pops the Gem out of the sword hilt to give to Stuart so the latter can appropriately carve it to fit into the reforged with Akiridion technology Trollhunter amulet. When he finally manages to manifest the armour during the FinalBattle, the Trollhunter armour is now MagiTech and he's able to [[SummonToHand summon Excalibur like he could with Daylight]], enabling him to defeat Bellroc once he's able to stand with her on equal footing.]]
* TheWorfEffect: To show how much of a threat the [[OmnicidalManiac Arcane Order]] truly is, [[spoiler:their enforcer, the Green Knight, was able to critically injure Jim, when he has, around this point, fought against [[TheDreaded Gunmar]] and [[HeroKiller Angor Rot]] simultaneously while having the upper hand]].
* WorfHadTheFlu: Has great difficulty fighting opponents in ''Wizards'' despite [[spoiler:having defeated [[TheDreaded Gunmar]] at this point]]. This is due to [[spoiler:the cursed shard lodged in his chest that not only prevents him from summoning his weapons, but also gives frequent flares of pain]].
* WouldHitAGirl: Jim has no problem with hurting and/or killing female Trolls if it means protecting his friends.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: [[spoiler:Subverted]]. In the series finale of ''Trollhunters'', Jim, [[spoiler:was transformed into a half-troll and unable to resume his normal life, opting him to stay with the other trolls and leave his home on the surface. However, by the end of ''Wizards'', he's changed back to normal.]]

[[folder:Toby Domzalski]]
!!Tobias "Toby" Domzalski
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tobi_43969_10111_1.png]]
!!!'''Appearances:''' ''WesternAnimation/{{Trollhunters}}'' | ''WesternAnimation/ThreeBelow'' | ''WesternAnimation/Wizards2020'' | ''WesternAnimation/TrollhuntersRiseOfTheTitans''
->'''Voiced by:''' Charlie Saxton

Jim's best friend since childhood. He lives with his grandmother.
----
* AdaptationNameChange: His name is "Tobias ''F. Dershowitz''" in the book. Here, his middle name has yet to be touched upon, but his last name was changed to ''"Domzalski"''.
* AffectionateNickname:
** "Tobes" by Jim.
** "Toby Pie" from his grandmother.
** "Wingman" from AAARRRGGHH!!!.
** "TP", short for Toby Pie, by Claire and later Darci.
* AscendedExtra: In Part One of ''[=3Below=]'', he was a minor character for obvious reasons. But in Part Two, he becomes a main character and the Tarrons' go-to human ally.
* AttentionWhore: Although a NiceGuy by heart, Toby displays many signs of craving unneeded attention, considering that the only reason he wanted Jim to be nominated for Spring King was so he could become duke. In "The Shattered King", his brief time as a 'god king' got over his head and waste time, [[NiceJobBreakingItHero allowing Angor Rot to take the Killstone]]. The following episode, he TookALevelInJerkass around Claire and fought for Jim's attention.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Toby passes a gravity altering curse to a war hammer hoping to make it his weapon of choice, but in battle, he has more than a few problems properly using a weapon that will randomly become so light it will float away with him or so heavy he can't move it. Once Blinky puts a size-shifting spell on it, its weight stabilizes, and it averts this trope from then on.
* BadassNormal: Willing to fight Trolls thrice his size to help his friends. He has no magic or powers like Jim and Claire, but is more than capable of asskicking.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Toby is usually goofy and friendly, but is scary when angered.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: [[spoiler:Kills Angor Rot by distracting then smashing him.]]
* BigEater: Toby is always seen eating or heard talking about food.
* BigFun: The chubbiest of his friends and the most fun-loving.
* BracesOfOrthodonticOverkill: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Toby wears braces and while it takes his dentist ''eight'' hours to fix them (which adds to him being a SicklyNeuroticGeek), they aren't portrayed as ugly.
** Played straight in one episode, where he injures his jaw and gets braces that cover his entire face, and can pick up radio signals.
* ButtMonkey: Not as bad as Eli, but Toby is picked on by Steve, weight conscious, and is given a lot of slapstick humor.
--> '''Toby:''' Why does this kind of thing always happen to ''me?!''
* CasanovaWannabe: {{Deconstructed|Trope}}. While trying to get a date to the Spring Fling, Toby attempts to be a smooth flirt to any girl he comes across. All of them say "no", including Darci, who ''wanted'' to be asked out by him but was put off when she heard he asked out every girl in their school.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Jim -- the two met when they were five years old, when Toby was adopted by his Nana and Jim's father left his family. Ever since, they have been best friends for over a decade.
* TheChosenOne: [[spoiler:Variantly. At the end of the franchise when Jim goes back in time, Jim allows Toby to go to the canal to find the amulet to [[AndTheAdventureContinues become the second human Trollhunter]]. It's unclear, however, if Jim still has his rebuilt amulet from the original timeline, but most likely.]]
* ColorMotifs: Red and yellow, both colors representing his energetic and HotBlooded personality. They are the main color schemes of his clothes, his warhammer has the same design, and the armor Merlin made for him is orange and brown.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's generally the most immature and buffoonish of the team, but is still an asset of the team.
* DropTheHammer: Having adopted the nickname "War Hammer" during their missions, Toby eventually gets his hands on a [[PlayingWithFire fire]]-[[ElementalWeapon conjuring hammer]] containing a [[CursedWithAwesome gravity curse to make it easier to wield]] (some of the time).
* EmbarrassingNickname: Gains the nickname "T.P.", a shortened version of "Toby Pie" and is vocal about his dislike of it.
* EquipmentUpgrade: In season 2, Blinky has upgraded Toby's Warhammer to become travel-size and fight-size at a convenient time.
* FatBestFriend: Toby is quite hefty and is best friends with Jim.
* FatComicRelief: His weight has occasionally been a part of jokes in the series.
* FreeRangeChildren: {{Justified|Trope}}. Unlike Jim and Claire, Toby apparently has no problem with his secret Trollhunter life because his grandmother is too senile to notice.
* FriendToAllChildren: Toby appears to have liking towards children, specifically babies. He honestly didn't believe that Claire's younger brother could be a changeling until proof was shown and was happy to do the flour baby project with Darci.
* GlassCannon: His warhammer is an incredibly effective blunt weapon that can shatter enemy trolls in a single-swing. However, due to the unpredictable nature of his weapon, the lack of experience in direct combat and lack of endurance, he is also the easiest to K.O. first.
* GravityMaster: The curse on his warhammer allows him to control how gravity affects it, from making it several times heavier to reversing gravity so the hammer will lift him off the ground. He has trouble with this at first, but gradually gets the hang of it.
* HeartwarmingOrphan: Toby's parents died in a shipwreck when he was two years old, and he's slightly sensitive about the subject, but is an all around sweet and optimistic kid.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Inverted. In the final battle of ''Rise of the Titans'', Toby uses Krel's Trifurcate Radiation Blaster to nullify Bellroc's enhanced magic, allowing Jim to make the final blow. However, Toby gets crushed under the fire titan's debris and after he gives his best friend heartfelt last words, he GoesOutWithASmile. In the end, Jim uses the time stone to go back in time to the day he became the Trollhunter to save Toby.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: He and Jim are each other's best friend. Claire, at one point, describes them as the "dynamic duo".
* HiddenDepths: It says a lot about Toby when his first response to discovering that the Trollhunters have an artifact that can stop time is to gush about how they'll have all the time in the world to learn any skills they want.
* IdenticalGrandson: Toby's grandmother is basically an older, female version of him.
* {{Irony}}: In the first episode, Toby was the one who didn't want an adventure while Jim did. After the latter became the new Trollhunter, their attitudes switched.
* JerkassBall: In "Airheads", Toby is rude and petty to Claire, constantly bringing up how she lost the Killstone. When she finally confronts him on his attitude, he confesses that he is feeling left out and insecure of the team, especially since she meshes so well despite being new and provides useful skills. After Claire gives him a pep talk, Toby apologizes for his behavior.
* JumpedAtTheCall: When Jim's destiny as the new Trollhunter is revealed, Toby is all for Jim doing it and joining in his best friend's adventures.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Toby gets crushed by the fire titan's debris after [[HeroicSacrifice giving his life]] to give Jim the opening he needed to finish Bellroc once and for all. [[InvertedTrope If Jim hadn't gone back in time]], Toby would still be dead.]]
* LethalJokeWeapon: Since its weight changes randomly, Toby's warhammer comes off as a joke weapon, but can still deal heavy damage if its weight shifts happen to line up optimally. Toby gets better at controlling this as the series moves on.
* NiceGuy: Toby is a fun-loving, friendly, and loyal person.
* ParentalAbandonment: "Just Add Water" reveals that his parents died in a cruise shipwreck when he was two years old.
* PlayingWithFire: His hammer has the ability to conjure up fire.
* ThePollyanna: Toby tends to be the most optimistic of his friends.
* PutOnTheBus: In ''Wizards'', Toby is left behind in the present while Jim and Claire end up venturing into the past and he doesn't reappear until the third-to-last episode.
* RaisedByGrandparents: Lives with his senile grandmother and she is apparently his only remaining relative.
-->'''Toby:''' Nana took me in after what happened to my parents.
* RedIsHeroic: His main color scheme is a mix between red and yellow and he's one of the main heroes.
* ShipperOnDeck: For Jim and Claire. Claire is the only girl in school he didn't ask out for this reason.
* SicklyNeuroticGeek: He is shown to be very weight-conscious, nit-picks his food should it have any non-healthy materials, obsesses over burning calories with a pedometer, goes to various dental appointments within days of each other (the second one lasting ''8 hours''), etc. This becomes downplayed as the series progresses.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: He's noticeably shorter than Darci, whom he begins a slow romance with in Part 2.
* TookALevelInBadass: Goes from having difficulty in keeping up with Jim as they bike to school to being able to keep pace with his friend as they battle dangerous monsters. This applies to his warhammer, as well. He goes from having a hard time working with it in its first use to more or less having control over its gravity shifts to the point where he uses it to fly. [[spoiler:He later gives his life to help Jim defeat Bellroc and her fire titan by draining her magic and give his friend the opening he needed to finish her off. In the end, Jim sees Toby worthy enough to take over the mantle of Trollhunter and experience a life as his own hero.]]
* TwoFirstNames: {{Inverted|Trope}}. Along with Domzalski, "Tobias" can also be used as a last name.
* UnaffectedBySpice: He spent years building up a tolerance for spicy foods so he could stomach the Diablo Maximus Breakfast Burrito, a dish that incapacitates Senor Uhl for an entire day after one bite. Although, he was unable to handle the school cafeteria's "chicken surprise".
* UndyingLoyalty: His character description even stated that his loyalty towards Jim is "unwavering".
* WouldHitAGirl: {{Discussed|Trope}}. When trying to get a pixie out of Claire, Toby briefly states "a gentleman never strikes a lady", but concludes that this is an exception and slaps Claire a couple of times to get the pixie out of her ear.

Jim's LoveInterest, and one of the more popular girls at school. Smarter than she lets on.
----
* ActionGirl: More than capable of helping Jim fight his enemies.
* AdaptationalNationality: In the series, Claire Nuñez is Hispanic-American. In the original novel, however, Claire Fontaine was an American immigrant from Scotland.
* AdaptationNameChange: From "Claire ''Fontaine''" in the books to "Claire ''Nuñez''" in the animated adaptation.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler:Claire tells Jim she loves him when the latter is having trouble adjusting to his new life as a troll-human hybrid, and even considering going solo]].
* ArchEnemy: In season 3, Claire becomes this to Morgana.
* BadassBookworm: Shares TheSmartGuy role with Blinky after reading the entirety of ''A Brief Recapitulation of Trolls'' (becoming fluent in the language in the process), but is more willing to take part in the action.
* BadassNormal: Like Toby, she's a normal human, who nonetheless enters into fights with trolls to protect her friends.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: The Skathe-Hrün conjures portals out of pure darkness and is able to do so using negative emotions like anger to do so. In Claire's hands though, it is an effective tool against evil, even being instrumental in [[spoiler:the death of its original owner, Angor Rot]]. However, [[spoiler:overtaxing herself channeling it powers makes her controlled by Morgana, the staff's original creator, though Claire ultimately severs Morgana's connection to the staff and makes it her own]].
* BattleCouple: After her RelationshipUpgrade with Jim in "Homecoming", they are this. Still fighting evil while being an OfficialCouple.
* BecomingTheMask: She and [=NotEnrique=] actually start to call each other brother and sister toward the end of season 1.
* BigSisterInstinct: Has this for her brother, Enrique. After learning of his kidnap, she is ''determined'' to help rescue him. She also develops this for [=NotEnrique=].
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: When she overuses the power of the Shadow Staff, her sclerae turn black with pupil-less purple irises as an indication of her corruption. [[spoiler:When Morgana controls her using this corruption, her eyes turn yellow and black.]]
* BrainyBrunette: Has black hair, is a BadassBookworm, an expert on solving riddles, and Jim mentioned she's a straight-A student.
* CastingAShadow: Has the ability to conjure up shadows with the Skathe-Hrün. [[spoiler:When fighting Morgana over the staff, she casts a purple magic that contrasts with [[LightIsNotGood Morgana's gold one]].]] [[spoiler:In ''Wizards'', she learns how to channel Shadow Magic without a staff.]]
* CatchPhrase: "Fudgeknuckle!"
* ColorMotifs: Purple, representing her intelligence. Her outfit and lock of hair are both purple. And when she was fighting Morgana, the color of her magical spirit is purple.
* CoolBigSis: She is shown to be a caring and loving older sister to Enrique.
* CreepyGood: When Claire realizes that the statues in the Hero's Forge are essentially past Trollhunters' corpses, she states that it's the most heroic thing she has ever seen.
* DamselOutOfDistress: As her bio states, "... Far from the damsel in distress, Claire fights for herself and learns to master a weapon of her own: the Shadow Staff."
* DarkIsNotEvil: She wears primarily purple clothing and becomes the new wielder of the Skathe-Hrün (see BadPowersGoodPeople above). Nonetheless, Claire is as heroic, brave, and kind as her companions. [[spoiler:Until her overusing its power opens her to Morgana's control, though she later undoes this by severing Morgana's connection with the staff, taking it as her own. In ''Wizards'', she gains a natural gift for shadow magic, yet she is initially wary of her dark gifts, due to everything Morgana put her through. She later overcomes her fear in favor of Douxie's insist as he helps her make the magic her own.]]
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: {{Justified|Trope}}. Claire's parents are ''not'' pleased with her dating Jim because they think he threw a party at their house, which in truth was him trying to settle the changeling pretending to be their son.
* DubNameChange: According to the credits, some translations call her "Clara".
* DudeMagnet:
** Jim has had a crush on her apparently for a while.
** Steve has made a few desperate and obnoxious attempts to flirt with her.
** In "Blinky's Day Out", she mentions that Logan, one of her classmates, asked her out to the Spring Fling, but she turned him down so Jim could ask her.
* EmotionalPowers: The Shadow Staff’s abilities are fueled by emotions, and she needs an emotional anchor if she isn’t familiar with her destination.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: Claire is able to whip up guacamole that impresses even Jim.
* GoodWithNumbers: Shown helping Jim with his math homework in one episode.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Wears various shades of purple in her clothes.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: She is shown to be close friends with both Mary and Darci.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Zigzagged. Jim is taller than Claire but only by a few inches. [[spoiler:This trope is played straight after Jim becomes a half-Troll in season 3, and he's now more of an example of OneHeadTaller as well as being more muscular]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. When she sees Steve threatening to harm Jim, she tries to protect him, only to get waved aside. She even smiles at Jim after he punched Steve in the face. However, one episode later, she briefly scowls at Jim for punching Steve while saying that there are other ways to finishing a fight than violence, despite trying to protect him from the latter and smiling at Jim's victory over him earlier.
* InterspeciesRomance: Zigzagged. She and Jim are human, but after the latter [[spoiler:takes a potion made by Merlin, he become half-Troll, thus qualifying him and Claire as this]]. [[spoiler:By ''Wizards'', this becomes subverted as Jim is turned back to human in the end]].
* ItsAllMyFault: [[spoiler:Blames herself for Angor Rot's escape in "The Shattered King". Later on in ''Wizards'', she continuously blames herself for not being strong enough to save Jim from getting impaled by the Green Knight's onyx shard.]]
* LockedIntoStrangeness: [[spoiler:After Claire uses a huge shadow to transport the remaining Trollmarket Trolls to a safe area, her streak of blue hair turns white.]]
* MagicStaff: Claire was able to steal the Skathe-Hrün, a powerful staff that can conjure portals [[CastingAShadow out of darkness]], from Angor Rot, making her own iconic weapon in the fight against evil.
* MultiEthnicName: Her first name is French and her last name is Spanish.
* MysticalPlague: Claire contracted a nasty cold - coughing, sneezing, ExhaustedEyeBags and all - from overuse of her staff from the Part Two finale. Even Barbara, a trained medical professional, [[ScienceCannotComprehendPhlebotinum can't seem to find the cause of her symptoms, and her tests come out negative like she's still in absolute perfect health, despite the obvious condition she was in]].
* NiceGirl: Claire is a consistently sweet person.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** Her breaking into the Lake family basement in the 11th episode not only prevents [[spoiler:Jim and Draal from capturing (and dismembering) Strickler, but gives the changeling the opportunity to replace the Trollhunter amulet with a convincing fake.]]
** By overexerting herself with the Skathe-Hrün to create a large portal to allow all of Trollkind to escape, [[spoiler:she becomes open to the Pale Lady's control.]]
** [[spoiler:Saving a redeemed Morgana from the undead Arthur in the Shadow Realm inadvertently allowed the Arcane Order to follow them to Hex Tech, where they were hiding Nari]].
* {{Omniglot}}: Claire has shown to speak English, Spanish, and the Troll language.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Her default outfit.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Claire's main color motif is purple and she proves to be a vital asset to the team, especially with the Skathe-Hrün. Season 3 and ''Wizards'' show her magic is also purple.
* RaceLift: She was Scottish in the book. Here, she is a Latina.
* RelationshipUpgrade: With Jim in "Homecoming" after they share a BigDamnKiss.
* ShadowWalker: Gained this ability after becoming the new owner of the Skathe-Hrün. [[spoiler:She eventually later learns how to control her shadow abilities without her iconic staff]].
* ShipperOnDeck: Becomes this to Toby and whoever the girl is inside the Arcadia mole mascot. [[spoiler:Who turns out to be one of her two best friends, Darci]].
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She describes [[TheHero Jim]] as "the nicest guy [she's] ever met" and has a mutual crush on him.
* SkeletonMotif: Claire has an affinity towards skulls.
** Her regular t-shirt has a stylized skull on it. [[note]] Without her jacket, it can be seen that the word on it is ''Theatre/{{Hamlet}}'', whose most famous scene of course involves a skull.[[/note]]
** Following from the above example, she's a big fan of the popular band, "Papa ''Skull''". (Partial justification for the skull motif - she mentions it's their shirt she always wears.)
** A decorative skull can be seen inside of her locker.
** She took ownership of the Skathe-Hrün and the previous owner's, Angor Rot, face resembled a skull.
* TheSmartGuy: Stated by Jim to be a straight A student. She also proves to be more than useful when she's let in on Jim's secret.
* SmurfettePrinciple: The only female member on the trollhunter team.
* TokenMinority: Of the human members of the team, Claire is the sole female and is of Mexican descent.
* TokenWizard: Among the main trollhunters group, Claire is the one most associated with magic in terms of combat, using her staff as a means of moving about the battlefield while Jim is a KnightInShiningArmor and Toby uses a LethalJokeWeapon. She eventually becomes a fully-dedicated witch of [[CastingAShadow shadow magic]] by ''Wizards''.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: States that she loves guacamole and has been shown with a bowl of the stuff twice in separate episodes.
* WomenAreWiser: Usually the most level headed member on Jim's team, as well as being the sole female.
* WorkingThroughTheCold: In spite of Jim's pleading, Claire refuses to take a day off - either from school or trollhunting - during her illness. She eventually decides to follow his advice and take her illness more seriously after she faints and her nose starts bleeding mysterious black fluid.

!!!'''Appearances:''' ''WesternAnimation/{{Trollhunters}}'' | ''WesternAnimation/ThreeBelow'' | ''WesternAnimation/Wizards2020'' | ''WesternAnimation/TrollhuntersRiseOfTheTitans''
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KelseyGrammer

The troll who trained multiple previous Trollhunters. Despite his... mixed record, he takes up Jim's training.
----
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: His design in the show is UglyCute, his appearance in the book looks like something out of Lovecraft.
* BadassBookworm: Blinky may be a NonActionGuy, but his love for reading has allowed him to help the group in many ways.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: For the most part, Blinky is a studious, polite NonActionGuy. Threatening his friends, however, will make him pissed off enough to fight.
* BlueIsHeroic: He has blue skin and is the caring, loyal teacher of Jim.
* BrokenPedestal: Looked up to his brother [[spoiler:until he found out not only was he alive, but he joined Gunmar.]]
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:His brother is loyal to Gunmar and even tries to kill him]].
* CharacterDevelopment: At the beginning, he was a staunch believer in what a Trollhunter should be (i.e., work alone, "finish the fight", etc.) and tried to instill these beliefs to Jim. But witnessing Jim's feats which included Jim involving his friends helped Blinky to understand that his beliefs were not correct.
* ConspiracyTheorist: Vendel accuses Blinky of being this in "[[Recap/TrollhuntersS1E7ToCatchAChangeling To Catch a Changeling]]" to Blinky's denial.
-->'''Vendel:''' You've never met a conspiracy theory you didn't like.\\
'''Blinky:''' I hate conspiracies. That is why I am dedicates to rooting them out.\\
'''Vendel:''' Like you rooted out the plot to ride Trollmarket of all its cat meat?\\
'''Blinky:''' That was a misunderstanding.\\
'''Vendel:''' Or the time you were convinced we were infested with flea trolls?\\
'''Blinky:''' Precaution is the soul of virtue.\\
'''Vendel:''' Everyone in Troll Market thinks you're paranoid.\\
'''Blinky:''' If it's everyone, it must be a conspiracy!
* CreatorsFavorite: Guillermo del Toro has said in an interview that Blinky is his favorite character.
* DirtyCoward: In the 12th century. During King Arthur and Gunmar's brewing conflict, Blinky was not the same wise and polite troll in the present, but a rather arrogant, snobby, ignorant, and rude coward who was quite unfriendly to outsiders, seeing them as "troublemakers" and quick to banish them out of Dwoza. This revelation of Blinky's old self greatly shocked Jim, Blinky's [[LikeASonToMe future surrogate son]], but it is revealed that after befriending the former Gumm-Gumm general, AAARRRGGHH!!!, and "losing" his brother, Dictatious, in the middle of battle, [[CharacterDevelopment he surely grows to become the father figure Jim would meet in the future]].
* ExtraEyes: Most trolls only have two eyes; Blinky has ''six''.
* GentlemanAndAScholar: Well mannered and well read.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: In ''Wizards'', Blinky gains countless scars and scratches on his stone skin after being ambushed by [[spoiler:the Green Knight. In ''Rise of the Titans'', he still retains his scars.]]
* HumanityEnsues: Blinky experiences this for a short while after [[spoiler:being exposed to a number of unknown potions within Gatto's stomach.]]
* InkSuitActor: When he's changed into a human for a little while, he looks like a cartoon version of Kelsey Grammer.
* KnownOnlyByTheirNickname: Few call him by his given name, Blinkous.
* LikeASonToMe: Tied to ParentalSubstitute. [[spoiler:In "Jimhunters" he actually tells Jim that when he looks at him he sees a son - a magnificent son.]]
* TheMentor: Takes it upon himself to coach and train Jim as the new Trollhunter.
* MomentOfWeakness: In ''ComicBook/TrollhuntersTheSecretHistoryOfTrollkind'', Blinky admits that some of the trolls considered breaking the pact and subsisting on the human passengers on the Mayflower, though he refuses to disclose to Jim, Claire and Toby who did so. Cut to the same panel, showing a hysterical Blinky being the one to propose the idea.
* MrExposition: Often the one to fill Jim in on troll culture, history, and the duties of being the Trollhunter in general.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Used his arms to wield a number of swords during the Trolls' fight with the Mountain Trolls during the Graphic Novel.
* MultiArmedMultitasking: Less ostentatious than most examples, but he does make effective use of all four of his arms [[spoiler:and complains that it's difficult to get anything done with only two]].
* NiceGuy: Blinky is always polite, well-mannered, and thoughtful.
* NonActionGuy: Blinky is, by his own admission, not much use in a fight. His biggest contribution to a battle has been [[spoiler:driving into Angor Rot with Jim's car. However, late in the series and especially in the final battle he proves to have pretty good aim with a [[StuffBlowingUp Dwarkstone]]]].
* ParentalSubstitute: Blinky becomes one for Jim; most noticeable when he gets Jim what he always wanted for his birthday: A Vespa. Or at least, all the parts for one. Strickler even points out that Jim sees Blinky as a surrogate father figure. [[spoiler:In "Jimhunters", he helps Jim deal with his new troll form by telling him he's a champion, a friend, and a son.]]
-->'''Blinky''': When I gaze upon you, do you know what I see? I see a champion, a friend... a son. A magnificent son.
* RabidCop: [[spoiler:Both times Blinky and Claire tried [[GoodCopBadCop to interrogate someone]], it turned into Blinky basically starting off bombs and threatening [[TakingYouWithMe to blow everyone up.]] They survived, but this resulted in killing the snitch they wanted to bring in as evidence.]]
* RousingSpeech: Blinky has a number of these, specifically to Jim. Jim even used one of them for his tryout for Romeo!
* SacredHospitality: Zigzagged. in the 12th century, he makes sure to tend to Callista and time-traveling Jim's wounds before attempting to kick them out. It's also noted that he carried them into Dwoza when they fell unconscious from the injuries they had received and comforted Jim when the latter thought he was having a nightmare.
* ShipperOnDeck: For Jim and Claire, notably telling Jim he blew his chance to ask Claire to the Spring Fling.
* TheSmartGuy: The guy with all the info the team may need, or at the very least he knows enough to get the team on the right track. And while he's obviously less well-versed on the human world than the humans, he seems to know a lot more about them than the other trolls.
* TeamDad: Tied to ParentalSubstitute. He does his best to take care of the group and encourages Jim (as well as Toby and Claire) to explore their pontential.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: [[spoiler:In later seasons he seems to keep a fair amount of Dwarkstones around, which are essentially magical hand grenades. PlayedForLaughs when he takes the “bad cop” routine too far, but against Morgana he shows some solid aim.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: After becoming human, Blinky gained a liking towards whipped cream.
* TragicKeepsake:
** {{Subverted|Trope}} -- The many books he owns are the only thing he has left of his brother. After he finds out that [[spoiler:his brother is alive and a Gumm-Gumm he [[BrokenPedestal tries to burn them]]]].
** Played straight -- [[spoiler:He now has Vendel's staff after his death, having taken up the mantel as the Troll Elder.]]
* YouAreInCommandNow: [[spoiler:He beomes leader to the surviving trolls after Vendel is killed and TrollMarket is taken.]]

A friend of Blinky who has taken an oath of non-violence.
----
* AcquiredPoisonImmunity: The breed of troll he belongs to come from the deepest caverns and are sensitive to light, fighting for the Gumm-Gumms forced him to adapt to light exposure.
* ActualPacifist: Even in life-or-death situations, he refuses to fight. He even refuses to play violent video games. [[spoiler:He eventually reconsiders to save Toby from Bular, and makes the decision to keep fighting alongside his friends since then. Still prefers non-violent video games though.]]
* AffectionateNickname: "Wingman" from Toby.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:He used to be one of Gunmar's generals, but defected and fought against his former allies. The reason for his pacifism is to atone for the people he killed in the past. We see that he was not the nicest guy in the past, training with Gunmar and trying to conquer Dwoza in the troll's name. Being put under Blinky's care and Jim's influence mellowed him]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Seriously. You ''want'' this guy to keep his oath of non-violence.
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: Well, not crazy, but when he gets angry enough, his eyes turn black with glowing green pupils.
* ChildSoldier: He was taken as a baby by the Gumm-Gumms and raised to fight from a young age. In the present, AAARRRGGHH!!! says he regrets the troll he used to be.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Green fur with green eyes.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Kidnapped as an infant by the Gumm-Gumms and raised by them to become a vicious soldier.
* {{Determinator}}: In ''ComicBook/TrollhuntersTheSecretHistoryOfTrollkind'', while most of the trolls in America took the Mayflower, AAARRRGGHH!!! ''walked'' the whole way across the ocean through deep, deep caverns beneath the ocean floor. He says that he was able to accomplish this because deep cave trolls like himself are very patient and are good with directions.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Toby feeds him video cassette tapes in the pilot episode. He also likes cats, their hairballs, and articles of clothing ruined by their droppings.
* GenderFlip: [[spoiler:In the original novel, AAARRRGGHH!!! was actually ''female'', confused for a male on account of a lack of gender traits that normal humans would recognize. In the series, he is male.]]
* GentleGiant: The biggest of his friends and is a pacifist.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:AAARRRGGHH!!! was turned to stone while saving Toby. Later, he is [[BackFromTheDead saved]] by the creeper sun antidote.]]
* HulkSpeak: Talks like this due to the trauma of being kidnapped as a child and forced to become a brutal killer.
* MonsterRoommate: Temporarily becomes Toby's Troll roommate to act as his bodyguard.
* NiceGuy: He's a sweet guy.
* NoSell: His stone body makes him largely impervious to electricity-based attacks, it's likely that this is the case for all trolls.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:After being infected by Angor Rot and only having a few months to live, he starts to distance himself from his friends and they all remark on his strange change in behavior.]]
* PapaWolf: He proves to be ''very'' protective over his friends, especially Toby.
* ShipperOnDeck: Like Toby and Blinky, AAARRRGGHH!!! calls out Jim for not asking out Claire to the dance sooner.
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:He intercepts a lethal blow that Angor Rot aimed at Toby.]]
* {{Tykebomb}}: He and trolls of his kind were kidnapped by the Gumm-Gumms as infants and raised as soldiers in Gunmar's army.
* WalkDontSwim: He reached North America by walking along the ocean instead of riding the Mayflower.
* WorthyOpponent: The Gumm-Gumms treat him as this when they clash. After all, they're the ones who trained him.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:Angor Rot infects him with a poison that slowly turns him to stone. The only way he can survive is by returning to his homeland, but since it's not a permanent cure and the area is inhospitable to trolls that fall outside his own kind, he decides to stay and help his friends for as long as he can before leaving. The son of Kanjigar who starts off as a rival to Jim before becoming his protector.
----
* AnArmAndALeg: Draal loses his [[spoiler:right arm removing the Amulet from the Killahead Bridge, turning it to stone.]] He later replaces it with a [[ArtificialLimbs mechanical prosthetic]].
* ArtificialLimbs: [[spoiler:Replaces his right arm with a mechanical prosthetic.]]
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: With [[spoiler:Nomura]]. All of their interactions in season 1 has them as bitter enemies, but season 2 shows that they do have lingering feelings for one another as when [[spoiler:Draal goes back to rescue her from imprisonment and Nomura being just as happy to be with him.]]
* BareFistedMonk: He has extensive weapons training and even gives lessons in armed combat to Jim after his HeelFaceTurn, but prefers to primarily fight with his body.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Draal becomes very protective of Jim as the series goes on and even teaches him how to wield his sword better. Because of this, Jim confides in Draal in ways he doesn't with anyone else; not even Blinky.
* BigBrotherMentor: Acts as a surrogate, older brother figure to Jim and helps the new Trollhunter on how to better refine his fighting techniques.
* BlueIsHeroic: Draal has blue skin and while he started off as a rival to Jim, he later becomes his protector.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:He becomes mentally dominated by Gunmar and has been reduced to a glorified attack dog]].
* BreakTheHaughty: His defeat at Jim's hand followed by being spared and then subsequently humiliated by Trollmarket due to the shame of the latter, really did a number on Draal's arrogant pride.
* ButtMonkey: First, Draal loses his father. [[spoiler:Then he's given a BreakTheHaughty moment by Jim, which exiles him from Troll Market. And then he loses his arm when trying to protect Jim and prevent Bular from opening the portal to the Darklands. And later, he's brainwashed by Gunmar. Don't even get us started on how he was chosen as the Trollhunter in an alternate timeline.]] This show hardly gives him a break.
* CharacterDevelopment: He starts off as an arrogant jerk to Jim for being chosen as the new Trollhunter and made every opportunity to mock him. After Draal's defeat by Jim, the Troll decides to become Jim's protector and they gradually form a brotherly type of bond.
* TheChosenWannabe: After he finds out that Jim took the mantle of trollhunter instead of him, he does everything in his power to humiliate Jim. When Jim grows a pair and challenges him for a rematch, due to troll-kind's HonorBeforeReason culture, Draal uses this as an excuse to kill Jim in hopes of taking the amulet himself. It is not until [[DefeatMeansFriendship Jim spared his life does he realize that Jim was the honorable one]] and decides to help him instead.
* DatingCatwoman: Used to date a changeling named Nomura.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: After Jim defeats Draal in combat, but refuses to kill him, Draal becomes disgraced and unable to show his face in Trollmarket. He decides to live with Jim as his bodyguard instead, and the two form a friendship.
* ForWantOfANail: [[spoiler:He was the second choice after Jim to become the Trollhunter. Merlin had his reasons for choosing Jim instead, since Draal lacking a circle of friends willing to fight for him got him killed.]]
* HandicappedBadass: Despite [[spoiler:losing his right arm and having to replace it with a prosthetic,]] Draal is still no slouch when it comes to fights.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Sacrifices himself to allow Jim and his friends to escape during part 3 as he gets stabbed by Angor Rot and gets turned into stone as a result.]]
* IOweYouMyLife: Draal comes to live with Jim because the latter spared and thus dishonored him. He also believes Jim when the latter was telling the trolls that changelings had returned.
* InformedAbility: While we're told and get a small glimpse at the fact that Draal is a relatively seasoned warrior, we don't get a lot of solid examples past The Battle of the Two Bridges (Season 1, Episode 13), outside of [[spoiler:his fight with and loss against Gunmar]].
* LightningBruiser: Along with his natural Troll strength, Draal's RollingAttack makes him incredibly agile compared to trolls of similar and greater size.
* TheMagnificent: Draal "the Destroyer".
* MonsterRoommate: Temporarily becomes Jim's Troll roommate to act as his bodyguard.
* NeverFoundTheBody: In "The Oath", while fighting [[spoiler:a revived Angor Rot, Draal is poisoned and begins to turn to stone. He then falls from a considerable height, and the cave starts to collapse. So, although he wasn't explicitly shown shattering, it seems unlikely that he would have survived.]]
* NoHuggingNoKissing: Whatever ways he and Nomura used to express affection for another, it didn't involve what is usual by human standards. They both even express disgust at human displays of affection.
* ThePoorlyChosenOne: He turns out to have been this in the [[ItsAWonderfulPlot alternate timeline where Jim never becomes trollhunter]] as he [[spoiler:becomes trollhunter himself but he is captured and forced to open Killahead Bridge then slain by Bular and the amulet is smashed afterwards. Downplayed in that Jim barely survived when the Changelings targeted him, and only won because he had his friends, while Draal had to work alone. It's more a case of "chosen one lacked backup support"]].
* RedemptionEqualsAffliction: After this heroic deed to protect Trollmarket, [[spoiler:which resulted in him losing an arm]], he is treated as a hero and once more welcome amongst the Trolls.
* RollingAttack: Draal has the ability to roll himself like a ball at high speeds as a means for attack.
* TookALevelInKindness: Was quite arrogant and petty to Jim and other in the beginning. After his BreakTheHaughty moment, Draal is humbled.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Always aspired to make his father, Kanjigar, proud, which was hard to do because Kanjigar would always distance himself from his son because of his responsibilities as Trollhunter. [[spoiler:Draal does get some closure, though, when the Forge of Heroes allows him to communicate with his father's ghost.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: As Nomura can testify, Draal will hit a woman.
* TheWorfEffect: In the first half of Season 1, Draal is a capable warrior, able to hold his own in a fight against formidable trolls like Bular, but past The Battle of the Two Bridges (Season 1, Episode 13), It seems like it takes less and less effort to knock him out cold. While this is subverted momentarily when he [[spoiler:battles Gunmar in the forest and manages to last a short bit before ultimately being possessed]], most of the time it seems he's there to show Jim and Co. just how strong their next enemy is.

!!Past Trollhunters

[[folder:As a whole]]
----
* IWorkAlone: The stance every Trollhunter was expected to take when it came to dangerous derring-do. Until Jim came around that is.
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: The Amulet of Daylight - an AncientArtifact created by the wizard Merlin - [[TheChooserOfTheOne chooses]] someone to take up the mantle of trollhunter, the inspirational hero to all of troll-kind and maintainer of both the troll-world and human-world (by proxy). The trollhunter has no actual say in the matter, forced to take up the role up until their death. As the trollhunter, they must "heed the call" whenever it calls for them. "Heed the call" can be anything as minor as taking care of one troll's gnome infestation or deliver something through the mail, but usually it involves life-threatening situations. Should they try and get rid of the amulet, it will simply appear back to them, but it must be retrieved if it is stolen.
* LegacyCharacter: There has ''always'' been a Trollhunter.
* LightIsGood: The Amulet conjures armor and a sword made of pure daylight.
-->''By the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command!''
* TheMagnificent: Every trollhunter has a title of some kind.
* OneRiotOneRanger: {{Deconstructed|Trope}}. This (largely well-intentioned) attitude is implied to be the great downfall of Jim's predecessors.
* RuleOfThree: The Trollhunter lives and dies by three rules:
** RuleNumberOne: [[FearIsTheAppropriateResponse Always be Afraid]].
** Rule Number Two: [[GainingTheWillToKill Always finish the fight]].
** Rule Number Three: [[GroinAttack When in doubt, always kick them in the gronk-nuks]].

The father of Draal and Jim's predecessor.
----
* TheAce: Kanjigar was widely considered to be one of the greatest Trollhunters of all time. They even had songs written about him.
* BigGood: Especially [[spoiler:in season 2, when he possesses the newly resurrected AAARRRGGHH!!! to help the team save Jim from the Darklands.]]
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: As a Trollhunter, Kanjigar was deliberately distant with his son Draal [[PapaWolf as a means to keep him safe]]. Kanjigar is quick to berate Jim for instead keeping people close to him and putting them in danger, [[spoiler:particularly his son Draal, who lost his arm protecting Jim.]]
* FullNameBasis: Does this to basically everyone, including [[spoiler:the human characters]].
* GoodParents: Though he had to distance himself from Draal during his Trollhunter career, the fact that the latter doesn't show any spite towards him, their interactions in ''ComicBook/TrollhuntersTheSecretHistoryOfTrollkind'' are rather positive and they both [[spoiler:display affection towards each other when AAARRRGGHH!!! is possessed by Kanjigar]] suggests that Kanjigar was a pretty good dad.
* HeroicSacrifice: Kanjigar sacrifices himself during the first episode's opening by willingly throwing himself into the daylight, keeping the Amulet out of Bular's reach before Jim discovers it in [[TakenForGranite the remains]].
* MentorOccupationalHazard: In an interesting twist, he actually died BEFORE he became [[spoiler:Jim's mentor in the Void.]]
* PapaWolf: [[spoiler:In the Void, he condemns Jim for how the battle of the bridge led to Draal losing his arm.]]
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Kanjigar's HeroicSacrifice is what causes Jim to become the new Trollhunter.
* SoProudOfYou: His words to [[spoiler:Draal in the season finale when they see each other again.]]
* SuddenPrincipledStand: In ''ComicBook/TrollhuntersTheSecretHistoryOfTrollkind'', Vendel remarks and commends Kanjigar for abstaining from eating the humans on the Mayflower on principle despite the desperate conditions.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: [[spoiler:Subverted]]. At first we only see Kanjigar when he kills himself to keep the Amulet out of Bular's hands. [[spoiler:Then it turns out Jim can talk to him in the void. Then he possesses AAARRRGGHH!!! in season two and even gets to hug Draal.]]

----
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: While in the series it is mentioned that he died when he was torn limb from limb, [[spoiler:in ''[[ComicBook/TrollhuntersTalesOfArcadiaTheFelled The Felled]]'', it is expanded upon that he slipped on some steps when he got cocky in a fight and falls into a [[SpikesOfDoom spike-pit]], where-upon the dying Unkar is pried-off and ''then'' torn limb-from-limb.]]
* DeathByDisfigurement: Was torn limb from limb.
* EpicFail: His Trollhunter career didn't even last a day.
* ThePoorlyChosenOne: The Amulet chose him to be the hero to all good trolls in our world, to be the shining beacon of hope for all of trollkind... and he dies in his first night out.

!!Deya the Deliverer

The first Trollhunter. See ''WesternAnimation/Wizards2020'' for more information.
----
* ActionGirl: Deya is a female and the first Trollhunter.
* DisabilityNegatingSuperpower: When Bular blinds Deya with reflected sunlight, she is able to use the magic of the amulet to counteract it.
* TheMessiah: As the first Trollhunter and the one who banished the Gum Gums to the Dark Lands.
* NeverFoundTheBody: [[spoiler:Averted. Deya the Deliverer dies stalling for time as the other trolls escape onto the Mayflower, her petrified remains sinking into the waters of the bay. Having seen the battle from a distance, AAARRRGGHH!!! salvaged it and brought it to the pilgriming trolls as a peace offering.]]
* {{Retcon}}: The graphic novel ComicBook/TrollhuntersTheSecretHistoryOfTrollkind, seems to imply that Deya is ''not'' actually the first Trollhunter, as Kanjigar is chosen to take her place immediately after she dies, and the others speak of Unkar the Unfortunate as if his tenure had already happened. Though ''[[WesternAnimation/Wizards2020 Wizards]]'' does confirm she is indeed the first which puts the events of the comic into a quasi-non-canon state.

* SelfDuplication: The Aspectus Stone gave Maddrux the power to create clones of himself.

* AffectionateNickname:
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor:
* BlessedWithSuck:
* CharacterDevelopment:
* EarnYourHappyEnding:
* LikeASonToMe:
* NoFlowInCGI:
* TookALevelInBadass:

->'''Voiced by:''' Charlie Saxton

Jim's best friend since childhood. He lives with his grandmother.
----
* AdaptationNameChange: His name is "Tobias ''F. Dershowitz''" in the book. Here, his middle name has yet to be touched upon, but his last name was changed to ''"Domzalski"''.
* AffectionateNickname:

->'''Voiced by:''' Lexi Medrano

* CatchPhrase: "Fudgeknuckle!"
* DudeMagnet:
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Her default outfit.

[[folder:Blinky Galadrigal]]
!!Blinkous "Blinky" Galadrigal
[[quoteright:219:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/th_character_blinky.jpg]]
!!!'''Appearances:''' ''WesternAnimation/{{Trollhunters}}'' | ''WesternAnimation/ThreeBelow'' | ''WesternAnimation/Wizards2020'' | ''WesternAnimation/TrollhuntersRiseOfTheTitans''
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KelseyGrammer

-->'''Vendel:''' You've never met a conspiracy theory you didn't like.\\
'''Blinky:''' I hate conspiracies.
* TragicKeepsake:

* AffectionateNickname: "Wingman" from Toby.
* NiceGuy: He's a sweet guy.
Then this all becomes moot when his friends find the antidote to the Creeper Sun poison, and he comes back to life.]]

The son of Kanjigar who starts off as a rival to Jim before becoming his protector.
----

* TheMagnificent: Draal "the Destroyer".

* GoodIsNotSoft: All the members are friendly, [[TrueCompanions get along very well]] and are genuinely sweet to people outside their usual social circle. Despite this, they are all perfectly willing to use lethal force against foes, and become ruthless and focused if any of their loved ones and homes are threatened.

* ActionSurvivor: Jim has proven throughout the franchise that he's a natural in surviving the unfamiliar world of the supernatural and often takes his skills and abilities for granted.

** Strickler calls Jim "Young Atlas" as a reference to him bearing the weight of the world on his shoulders. It started off as affectionate, but grew more into TermsOfEndangerment as time went on. [[spoiler: By the time of the first season finale, it's back to being affectionate.]]

* [[AnxietyTropes Anxiety]]: Aside from being a SociallyAwkwardHero, it is confirmed by Strickler in the pilot episode that Jim suffers from anxiety. He shows signs of restlessness, lack of concentration, hyper-vigilance, and consistently worrying about other's well-beings, mostly his loved ones, and has occasional breaking points when under a lot of stress.

** Wanted more excitement in his life, which was all ready complicated enough. He got his wish. Toby chides him for it in the second episode.
** All Jim wanted to do after becoming a Trollhunter was to escape the stressful life, and he got his wish in "Unbecoming". However, even though he didn't have the hectic life of a Trollhunter, he also didn't form friendships with Blinky, Draal, or Aarrrghh. And, his romance with Claire never took off.

Even worse, he just can't get rid of it, since the Amulet refuses to be thrown away until he is dead (unless it is ''stolen'', in which case he has to get it back the old fashioned way).

* GoodArmorEvilArmor: Downplayed. The Amulet of Daylight and the armor and sword it produces in usually bathed in glowing blue and is made of a chrome silver [[HardLight daylight-based alloy]]. When he incorporates the Triumbric Stones (three stones that possess either a literal or archaic connection to the series' BigBad Gunmar) into it, the armor and sword takes on darker tones - referred to as his Eclipse Armor - becoming black with red highlights. Aside from having a different summoning phrase and being able to remain active without the amulet being connected to him, it is functionally the same as his normal armor.
