* CaptainSpaceDefenderOfEarth: Buzz's "character' is that he is a space ranger for Star Command, dedicated to defending the galaxy from the evil Emperor Zurg. He wholeheartedly believes in this until he learns otherwise.

* TragicHero: Due to the loss of her original owner Emily, she initially felt depressed in her first appearance despite her external excitement from going to Japan (alongside Woody, Bullseye and Stinky Pete).

* TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard: How he introduces himself to Woody and the other toys in the first film.

* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: In the fourth film, it turns out that her skirt actually has some purple coloring underneath it, and she now uses it as an improvised cape via exhibiting its purple side more.

* TrueBlueFemininity: Even with her TomboynessUpgrade in ''4'' (where she stopped wearing her old pink dress, which exposes her inner blue outfit), she still maintains her warm personality.

* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: In the fourth film, she now wears a purple cape.

* TookALevelInJerkass: She's more stern and has a tendency to be condescending towards Woody in ''4''. Despite this, she still cares about him and others.

* BruiserWithASoftCenter: A milder example. As shown in ''Toy Story 4'', she's now more openly capable of fighting back against others, but her heart still remains inside of her.

* {{Foil}}: To Jessie. Both are old/antique western-themed {{nice girl}}s associated with Woody and have an affinity for animals. Bo is outwardly more demure, yet in private, she is a great deal more daring, sassy, romantic and seductive with her words and actions, while Jessie is an outgoing tomboy. In addition, both become troubled after their owners grew up and abandoned them, which led them to get stored away. Though Andy and his family knowingly stored away Bo, Emily honestly forgot about Jessie and donated her to at least let another kid play with her, which just happened to end with her getting bought and stored away for years by Al. Jessie became traumatized by her time in storage and became entranced by the idea of being put in a museum display if Woody came with them, while Bo got tired of waiting and chose to leave on her own accord even though Woody and the others wanted to stay.

* HeroOfAnotherStory: In ''4'', it is revealed that during the TimeSkip after she was given away, she ended up in another household and become another child's toy, only to be abandoned again after the child grows up and eventually ended up in the antique shop, where she stayed for a couple of years before deciding to leave and join the carnival tour. She even ends up leading her own band of toys just like Woody.

Curiously, this never happens with Slinky, who even appears in crossovers like ''VideoGame/DisneyHeroesBattleMode'' and ''VideoGame/DisneySpeedstorm''.
