Beings of immense destruction caused when two Rules that are diametrically oppose one another each other collide, it causes what's known as an Exception. They are berserk versions of mythological figures, either the original owners of the Artifacts that collided, or should either or both of the people that caused the error are the original owners of their Artifacts, they become an Exception. The ones caused so far;

* LiteralSplitPersonality:[[spoiler: In the Remote Island Expedition Event, Dagon reveals that Triton was this, originally being [[IHaveManyNames just one of his many names]], until the people that worshipped him eventually split him and Triton into 2 beings, causing him to lose his power and his Role of the All-Father to Triton. Dagon's goal in the event is to manipulate [[FusionDance Triton into becoming one with him again]] to re-obtain the power he lost in the split.]]

* AmbiguouslyBrown: Shuichi is likely half-Indian like his brother.

* BigBrotherInstinct. To put it lightly. [[spoiler: bits and pieces from chapter 8 onward implies this the result of spending all his childhood protecting his little brother and himself from the people who experimented on them.]]

* DecoyLeader: Of sorts. Most people simply assume he leads the Wisemen, as he does all the talking.

* NoSocialSkills: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zig-Zagged.]] He is at times described as charming by the narration, and is capable of coming across as an upstanding individual to Shiro in their online interactions as Cain, and a trustworthy friend to [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter the chronically-naive Moritaka,]] and is no doubt an affable person. That said, even putting aside the over-active [[BigBrotherInstinct Big Brother Instinct]] that compels him to sing Duo's praises near-constantly, Chapter 7 has Nomad note that he is excessively familiar, and shortly after, he speculates that Claude and Snow sent [[UndyingLoyalty Garmr]] [[BrutalHonesty on a mission to gather the remaining Berserkers to the Colosseum to act as a decoy for Nomad because they could find no other use for him.]] [[UpToEleven Out loud. Within earshot of Garmr, who is still nursing injuries from trying to complete that mission.]] [[DeathGlare When the Protagonist]] [[MegatonPunch expresses their disapproval,]] [[InnocentlyInsensitive he seems genuinely confused as to what he did wrong.]]

* ThousandYardStare: In the first half of [[spoiler:chapter 9]]. He kind of gets better.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: While she does look like a human child, her [[TechnicolorEyes eyes]] changes color to reflect her mood, which immediately puts her "humanity" to doubt.

* BlessedWithSuck: Her ability to be automatically be forgotten by anyone who takes their eyes off her makes infiltration a cake walk. But this same power has also doomed her to an extreme loneliness as everyone she meets will quickly forget she even exists, with the sole exception of Jambavan.
* ChangingClothesIsAFreeAction: Changes between two extremely elaborate costumes, complete with eye and hair color changes, constantly throughout the Halloween party event.
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler: Chapter 10 revealed that she is currently imprisoned somewhere in the Tower of Babel due to her prior interference with the game.]]

* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Her ability causes her to drift out of the memories of others; to the point she can infiltrate the Berserkers guild simply by walking in the front door, as any witnesses forget all about her the moment she's out of sight. As she describes it, her power is the ability to "replace reality with dreams", and dreams are inherently something that will be quickly forgotten by their dreamers when they "wake up".

* PowerIncontinence: Her memory erasure power is passive. She can guide and amplify it to wipe a specific person's mind if she needs to, but otherwise have no way to shut it off.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her standard form have faded lime green curls, while her holiday variant has blond with pink edges and ashy gray with burgundy edges depending on which costume she is wearing.

* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: [[JustForPun Obvious quip aside]], boy does he have a case of this! Not that he ever shown a willingness to resist the urge and likely always plan this as the [[ForTheEvulz end game for all his clients and associates.]]
** In chapter 3, he makes his escape the moment Oniwaka and Kengo creates an Exception, while making it clear how much he enjoys Oniwaka's agony from his Rule overloading.
** It's taken to [[MoralEventHorizon horrifying]] levels in chapter 8. [[spoiler: In a show of heinous irony, he manipulated a vindictive little girl, who parents have just been killed in the chaos caused by the Genociders, into a attempt on Babalon's life after actively aiding Babalon and the rest of the Genociders throughout the chapter in order to create the situation in the first place. While Arc managed to shield Babalon from the attack, it costed them their life (though Shirou was able to revive Arc later). Despite that, Kirito was still pleased with himself as he got to see Babalon suffer from once again losing a child she cared about before he quickly made his escape.]]
* ForTheEvulz: A lot of what he does seems to stem from a sadistic desire to make others suffer and/or to make them give in to their worse impulses. [[spoiler: This is evident in chapter 8 when he lent one of his knives to a little girl who's parents have just been killed by the Exceptions, and told her Babalon was responsible for everything in order to convince her to murder the woman who welcome him in open arms and treated him like he was her own child.]]

* RecurringBoss: Appears as a enemy in several chapters.
* SerialKiller: If his artifact didn't already tip you off, the mutilated body found in chapter 3 is highly implied to been his work. Unlike many other characters who inherited their artifacts from infamous historical figures, such as Claude and Licht, who inherited their artifacts from Emperor Nero and Hitler respectively, Kirito seems to enjoy following the footsteps of his predecessor all too willingly and naturally.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: A beautiful young woman dressed for a performance at the opera, who could also easily go umbrella to sword with someone like Toji without breaking a sweat. She’s also great friends and presumably guild-mates with [[EldritchAbomination Nyarl]]. The two even have affectionate name for one another.

* ItAmusedMe: From what limited screentime she had so far, it seems her and her guild's only real intention is to provide entertainment to the people using the App.

* MysteriousWaif: Has kept a relatively low profile in the game. Time will tell what impacts she will have on the story.
* ParasolOfPain: A parasol that would match the strength of Toji's two ancestral demon-slaying swords, with no trouble at that. Overlaps with ParasolOfPrettiness.

* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Highly implied from her conversation with fellow shapeshifter Nyarl, as to what the purpose of her masks are for or at least a side-effect of her powers.

* BearsAreBadNews: A large bear who attracts misfortune wherever he goes. Ironically, it's not that he himself is a dangerous or bad person- see TheJinx below.
* ButtMonkey: By extension of being a bad luck magnet (see TheJinx), this poor bear ''cannot'' catch a break. He's been shot at, attacked by wyverns, and that's just to name a ''few'' of the things that have been inflicted on him!

* StoneWall: How he is played as a unit, as he can give himself the Regeneration, Tenacity, and Guts buffs while also crippling his enemies' CP gain and lowering their ATK stat.
** And as expected, his Valentine's Timeslip event variant performs this role even better than his standard form as he has access to most of the above-mentioned buffs with the addition of the Protection buff for added defense and [[DrawAggro Taunt]] to better protect his team and make full use of all his defensive buffs.

* CleanupCrew:[[spoiler: It's highly implied that they not only eliminate their targets but also clean up the resulting crime scene and also [[DisposingOfABody disposes]] of their victim's bodies.]]

* DeadlyEuphemism: Besides, their janitorial work at school, Algernon also "cleans up" [[spoiler:the streets of targets they receive from their job as a mercenary after school.]]
* DoNotCallMePaul: Charles hates for other people to know and call him by his old name.[[spoiler: The fact that he tells the protagonist his human name goes to show just how much he grows to trust and like them.]]
* FlyingBroomstick: Well how else are you suppose to use a rocket-powered broomstick? Overlaps with RuleOfCool.

* LuminescentBlush: Their helmet can stimulate a blush response and it's so adorable. This is usually the result of Charles reacting to something unexpected or cute the protagonist do for or with them.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Lampshaded, during the "Osechi, the Mouse and the Sweeper" event, Algernon states that they were named after the famous British poet, Charles Algernon Swinburne.
* NeatFreak: Implied and outright revealed in the "Virtual Summer Memory" event, Charles can only relax by cleaning! Algernon tells the party, particularly Otohime, it's better to leave him be.

* ShipperOnDeck: Algernon consistently try to get Charles to be honest with their feelings for the protagonist and seems dead-set on trying to get the two together.
* SnarkyNonHumanSidekick: The AI portion of Algernon speaks more often than the human side of the equation from what can be inferred, often to tease the human inside the suit in good nature.
* SuperiorSuccessor: They are apparently this to Nomad, as they are from the same experimental line as the tiger detective, but possesses far greater acceleration and actual time-hopping powers.
* TimeTravel: Possesses this ability, as all things made from Utopia are. [[spoiler: This is how he able to deal with Azathoth.]][[spoiler: Further use of this power is also slowly killing them.]]

* AbilityMixing: His ability to [[PowerCopying use the abilities of other artifacts]] seem to be based on Freki's Rule that allowed him to "consume what was left behind" and Huginn and Muginn's ability to access and translate the memories and personality of the artifact's previous owner.
* ConditionalPowers: His ability to temporarily use the powers of the artifacts of others requires that he [[ShapeShifting assumes the form of that artifact's previous owner]] and, also, [[BecomingTheMask assume their personality while in use]]. On top of that, its implied that as a result of it being tied to Freki's Rule, he can only tap into the artifacts of Transients that have completed their Roles.

* MeaningfulName: His name is short for "B-Type Freke". [[spoiler: Curren named him this because he's the ' "Plan B" of the True Guilds, being the opposite of the Protagonist they can use as a replacement for the World Representatives if any of them start to break away from their intended roles in the Game or end up forfilling their wish that kept them in Tokyo.]]

* {{Shapeshifting}}: What his nanomachines, which his 4-star states is his Sacred Artifact, allow him to do. This not only gives him the ability to look like others, but also gives him the ability to duplicate the weapons of others, as seen when he generates a copy of the Protagonists' Boundless Tail sword to fend off some attacking robots. * SoulJar:Inverted, as while its not their actual souls, the Thought Unit reveals that Breke is composed of the memories, thoughts, and physical appearances of Transients who have completed their Roles. This includes [[spoiler: Babalon, Surtur, and Azathoth]], thought it mentions they were the last to be uploaded before Breke was activated. [[spoiler: Tezcatlipoca is added to his archive at the end of Chapter 10.]]

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He's one to the Protagonist. He's an amnesiac who first manifests in a park, initially has no other memories other than his name, gets attacked by a random Transient mob and has to be saved by a mysterious stranger (This time, its you, the Protagonist), and manifests a Sword artifact to save the person who just saved him. He's even composed of multiple beings, just like the Protagonist. [[spoiler: It's {{justified}}, as Curren and the other two Geniuses that act as the guildmasters of the three True Guilds explicitly built him to take on the Sacred Artifacts of the World Representatives if they began to fail in their roles for the Game or end up dead or desummoned. This means Breke is the vessal for the 23 World Representatives, just like how the Protagonist is the Vessal for the Exiles of the 23 Worlds]]

* TheFatalist: Thanks to his Sacred Artifact, he ''knows'' how things are going to go. This hasn't lead to him having a sunny disposition.

* CupidsArrow: Essentially his Sacred Artifact.

* BadWithTheBone: His WeaponOfChoice of sorts. His helmet is his sacred artifact and made out of the skull of a buffalo.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Wakan's specific power is the ability to [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "create a path forward"]]. Indeed, when activating his helmet by pressing it onto the earth, a brick laid path freed of obstruction will appear before him and his teammates. What makes this power so awesome is that the helmet also empowers his him and his team into near unstoppable juggernauts, represented in game as granting your team with the powerful Crit+ buff capable of dealing immense amounts of damage.

* HurtingHero: While we've been getting hints that Wakan Tanka recognizes one of the souls of the Protagonist, this has been kind of been put on the wayside, up until Seaside Fashionista. It's then stated that the Protagonist reminds him of someone from his world that he began to care deeply about. This person apparently disappeared from his world, and looking at the Protagonist reminds him of that pain.

* BoisterousBruiser: The man has two settings: loud and louder, and he loves putting his physical strength to use - not neccessarily in a fight, just in general.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: As big and tough as he tries to look, it is ''incredibly'' easy for him to fall into InelegantBlubbering if he thinks he's been abandoned by his friends - emphasis on "thinks". This includes "forgetting where and when they were to meet up, and showing up at the wrong time and place".

* DoubleAgent: [[spoiler:Following the events of ''Arise! Jisangshi Night'', Sanat Kumara is revealed to be another Game Master, like Alice. Once Sanat Kumara realizes the Invaders created a BodyDouble in order to influence the Entertainers, he decided to take its place and Influence the Invaders in return, ostensibly to figure out what exactly they have planned.]]

On the other hand, he sees Mr. Mononobe as the ideal teacher.

Despite appearing early on in the story, he has only been released as a playable unit with the Seaside School Event in 2017.

A high school actress with a thousand faces, belonging to the Yurakucho Entertainers. Each of the multicolored masks of her Sacred Artifact contains a different person's memories, the Rule contained therein allowing her to re-enact any performance, no matter the circumstances. When playing a role, she exudes a strong stage presence, but beneath the mask lies her true face: detached, ephemeral. She was born for the fantasy of festivals, and illuminates the fictional stage of the App with brilliant, showy color. She has vowed to devote herself to her first, true fan.

A male djinn Transient who works at Shinjuku Academy as the protagonist's class's assistant teacher. He guides his students zealously with his trademark red jersey and shinai. He holds an unusually strong affection for his students. Has an extraordinary rough personality and a noninterference principle. His education policies and his personality don't mesh with his coworker within the same school, the rule-fussy Triton, and they get on like water and oil. His other coworker Mononobe, the homeroom teacher of the protagonist, is held up by him as the embodiment of what a teacher should be with profound trust and reverence.

A teacher of Shinjuku Academy where the protagonist and friends attend. He's always competing with his coworker Jinn in what ways they love their students and their appropriateness as teachers. In contrast to Jinn's lively nature and hands off approach, Triton prizes order and has a serious personality. As part of the species known as mermen, underwater activity is his forte, so he coaches the swimming and water polo teams at school. He likes moist locations, so he normally lives in the Shinjuku Academy's dorm manager's bath unit. He holds great respect for his fellow teacher Mononobe.

A cyborg from the world of Utopia. Subject to an experiment to enhance his physical and mental capabilities, the man inside the suit of armor now works contract jobs to literally and metaphorically clean up the city. The true name of the man in the suit is unknown. Rather, he and the AI contained in his suit go by the name of Algernon.

* BareYourMidriff: Despite wearing a fully functioning suit of armor, Algernon's abdominals are conspicuously ExposedToTheElements .

Existing somewhere between the lines of human, wolf, and machine, Breke is all of the above, yet not quite any of them at the same time. Much like the Player Character, Breke arrived in Tokyo with no memories of his life before. Equipped with nothing more than a suit of nanomachines and voices that hint at foreboding possibilities, Breke is trying to navigate the mysterious purpose for his being in Tokyo.
