* IllGirl: As a human girl, Katherine was very sickly, weak, and fragile. All that changed once Klaus changed Katherine.

* {{Kitsune}}: This is Misao's species, alongside her twin brother, Shinichi. Their origin is from Japan. Kitsune are described as intelligent beings and as possessing magical abilites that increase with their age and wisdom, every 100 years they get a tail, becoming more powerful, and when they reach nine tails (Kyuubi no Kitsune), they become demi-gods, reaching the omniscience, and almost the omnipotency. Foremost among these is the ability to assume a human form. * {{Bishonen}}: Sage is described to be very physically handsome and attractive with beautiful features. He definitely is said to rival fellow bishonen's, Stefan and Damon.

Misao is a magical fox spirit called a "Kitsune" from Japan. She is Shinichi's twin sister. In the beginning of Nightfall, she appeared in Caroline's mirror in her brother's form, and used her bad feelings for Elena to making them sign a contract, which enabled Caroline to get her revenge on Elena and Stefan.

Klaus is a pureblood vampire, one of the 'Old Ones' who has never been a human, and he existed long ago before the pyramids were built, which was 2500 BC. According to him, he fought in the Trojan war and helped cause the downfall of the Roman Empire. He is some strange cross between mad and evil, possibly due to his age, and nearly kills Stefan at one point.

* DynamicCharacter: Elena goes through the most significant changes out of all of the characters in the books. She also does a complete 180 in regards to her personality, attitude and outlook on life over the course of the books.

* LongHairIsFeminine: In Katherine's case, her hair is ultra long. She has RapunzelHair that trails behind her.

* RapunzelHair: Much longer than Elena's. In fact, Katherine's hair is so long that it trails behind her and pools on the floor.

* ExtraordinarilyEmpoweredGirl: Although Elena is incredibly strong and capable physically, she is also rather vulnerable emotionally.

* ExtraordinarilyEmpoweredGirl: Bonnie may have strong psychic abilities but she is also very fragile and vulnerable at the same time, especially physically and emotionally. Bonnie often faints or passes out if she overuses her powers and abilities too much.

* LackOfEmpathy: Katherine is sociopathic. She doesn't display any compassion or empathy. Even before Klaus's influence, her decision to turn both the Salvatore brothers because she couldn't choose between them demonstrates very little consideration for feelings other than her own.

** This could be a deconstrued example in that this indulgement led her to take it for granted that she could have everything she wanted without consequence; hence her solution to the love triangle between her, Stefan and Damon being to MarryThemAll.

* SpoiledSweet: Katherine was this during her human life. Her father, Baron Von Schwarzschild was seen to constantly be spoiling her with material goods. She often got everything she wanted. Despite this, she was sweet and kind. This could be a deconstrued example in that this indulgement led her to take it for granted that she could have everyhting she wanted without consequence, hence her solution to the SiblingLoveTriangle being to MarryThemAll.

* MasterOfTheMixedMessage: She flirted with Damon despite being bethrothed to Stefan, strung them both along and let each think it was he she loved most only to reveal she had actually turned them both into vampires. It's implied that, like Elena, she found Damon's

* SpoiledSweet: Katherine was this during her human life. Her father, Baron Von Schwarzschild was seen to constantly be spoiling her with material goods. She often got everything she wanted. Despite this, she was sweet and kind.

* TheIngenue: Originally, before she turned evil. Katherine was the epitome of gentle, kind, polite and fragile. See HairOfGoldHeartOfGold. However she was also rather naive and self-centred, with an almost childlike idealism, which led to her not really thinking much about the consequences of her actions.
